Gift Certificate expires after 6 months - is this fair? (1 Viewer)

I received a gift certificate to a local restaurant from my soccer team ( I coached my daughters soccer team). This was given to me last November. The amount is $75.

I was getting ready to use it tonight and saw on the gift certificate its is valid for 6 months!! The team paid cash for this gift certificate.

Is this legal?

What is the play here?

1) go there and use it and pretend I didn't know it "expired"?

2) call them and ask them if I can use it still?

3 Other options?

Call and ask. If it isn't a chain they will probably honor it.

I would go to the restaurant and talk to the manager. Odds are if it is a good establishment, they will extend the time for you. Expiring gift certificates is a ####ty business practice.

seems that most gift cards cannot expire within 5 years but there are some exceptions
