Gilmore Girls to end this season... For those that care... (1 Viewer)

It's streaming on Netflix now. I'm about 7 episodes in, and it is fantastic.

As a fan of "Parenthood", I must say Gilmore so far really makes me disappointed in Parenthood. I love the show, but they completely #### the bed with Lauren Graham's character. Having really only seen that and Bad Santa, I really had no idea Graham would be this good. The dig at the Jolie/BBT relationship was funny in retrospect.

I've completely cashed in my man card and am currently catching up on the WB/CW/UPN chick shows that I never watched the first time around. So far, Buffy and Veronica are solid, but Gilmore Girls might be my favorite of the bunch.
If you end up liking Buffy, you might want to try its spinoff, Angel. One of my top 10-15 favorite shows ever.
It's taking me a long time to come around on this Angel fella. Still not quite there. It really sucks as it's hard not to just see him as "that dude from Bones that appears to be the spiritual predecessor to Twilight brooding vampires".

And Xander. Ugh, that guy. First of all, his name is ####### Xander. They give him these awful cheesy lines that are a little hard to handle. I have to remind myself that that this was a different time. A time where Matthew Perry was starring in TV's most popular comedy doing the same schtick. And he was only the 2nd most annoying dude on his show.

Xander is getting better about halfway through the 2nd season.

Watching Buffy this long after it originally aired is tough in general. It's only 3 years older than Gilmore Girls, but that 3 years seems like 15 years. Gilmore and Veronica both seem like shows that could slide seamlessly into the TV schedule right now. Buffy seems really, really old, though I'm on the 2nd season and it's feeling less so.

I do like Buffy though. Quite a bit.
Angel's character on his own show is fundamentally different in ways I think you might like. There is little nothing to connote Twilight vampires in his character. Also, while I agree with you that for some reason Buffy seems dated (probably because of the high school setting - you don't have kids talking about Twitter, texting each other ceaselessly, etc.), Angel does not. Give it a shot, and more than just the first season, which feels like an extension of Buffy. The show branched out on its own significantly over the remaining four years.

cant stand the show im certain that the script is written with less punctuation than a SWC post and you can take that to the bank brohan

About 3/4ths of the way through S1. It just keeps getting better.

Nobody told me there'd be a Bangles concert. I'd have checked it out sooner if I'd known that. Speaking of music, I love the Carole King intro. It's got that old-school 80's sitcom vibe to it.

BTW, apparently the set for Stars Hollow, CT is the same set that was used for Latham, MA in the Seinfeld finale.

True.  I toured the Warner Brothers backlot last month.  We had several Gilmore Girls fans in our group, so our tour guide spent extra time at the "Anytown USA" section that is the Stars Hollow town square.  The guide gave a rundown of other famous scenes/shows filmed on the space, and the Seinfeld finale was mentioned.

A few other trivial bits I enjoyed learning... The exterior of Lorelai's house is the same one used for Uncle Jesse's house in The Dukes Of Hazzard.  The studio has a huge nursery of trees and plants they bring in to make a house look more like a particular part of the country and/or time of year.
Lane's house/antique shop was also Jack and Judy Geller's house on Friends.  The prom video from "The One With The Prom Video" was shot there.
The exterior of the theater where The Bangles concert took place is on the WB lot and inside is a working theater where a lot of rough cuts and previews are shown to studio execs and employees.  It's used as a movie theater/live music venue exterior in a lot of WB shows.  Definitely saw it on an episode of The Big Bang Theory where a couple characters stumbled upon an advance screening of Suicide Squad.
The gazebo that is the signature piece of the Stars Hollow town square is easily removed.  It wasn't in the square during our tour, but we saw it later in a nearby parking lot - it was in a space marked "Gazebo Parking Only".

I just watched through all seven seasons last year when it was announced that Netflix was bringing Gilmore Girls back for a few extended episodes. I'm looking forward to this.

We're about 50 some odd hours away. I trust everybody is powering through a GG marathon right now in anticipation.
My wife and daughter will yet again finish Season 7 sometime tomorrow.  I've resorted to wearing a flannel and a blue snapback backwards just to get noticed around the house.

I watched the revival (my wife called me a girl).

It's weird to say, but I enjoyed it despite thinking that a lot of it didn't really work.

Tons of people have written about the ending, and I mostly agree that it would have worked a lot better if it happened when Rory graduated Yale rather than 10 years in the future.  In order to give it something like the same impact, the show has to kind of damage Rory's character by having her seem extremely rootless for a 32 year old high achiever.

Some of the secondary B plots felt sort of tacked on as well.

Which sounds like I should have hated it, but I didn't.  I always enjoy the screwball dialogue.  I enjoy Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop.  I thought the musical stuff was pointless but ended up being entertaining.

My wife and sister-in-law watched this over the weekend. I, of course, was in an adjacent room doing Man Things. But I overhear a lot of the dialogue and LOL'd several times.

Should I start from Ep. 1? :bag:

Were you at least familiar with the series before?  There are only 4 90 minute episodes so it's not a huge commitment by binge-watching standards.

I liked it quite a bit. I stopped watching the show the final couple of seasons so I had no clue who Logan was. Didn't know he was a character on the show. Thought they handled Ed Herrmann's death really well. The dialogue didn't feel quite as quippy as it was back in the day but still fun. I think the biggest problem is the heart of the show was the relationship between a young mother and her teenage daughter and you can't replicate that when the mother is nearing 50 and the daughter is in her early 30s. But I still enjoyed seeing all the odd characters again and it was still a fun show to watch again. Thought the final scene between Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop was outstanding. Agree the ending fit better as a series ending but the creator wasn't working on the show then so I see why she stuck to her guns and did it here like she originally wanted to do it all along.

My wife was out of town for the weekend. When she got home, she watched this. At one point, I came down to catch up with her on household events and she gave me the 'one sec' because obviously our Netflix pause button is broken.

Within about 10 minutes, my only reaction was 'sooooo muuuuuuch talking'

Thing that probably only bothered me.  Don't go to the trouble to get Sebastian Bach back for a Hep Alien performance and then give the lead vocals to Zach.  Come on, man.

No kidding. I mentioned to the wimmin-folk that even by female standards, these characters talked a lot and really fast.

I've never seen the series before. So I'm wondering about starting from the very beginning.
OK, that's a bigger commitment.  GG was pretty fully formed from the beginning.  It didn't really take time to find itself (and in fact it probably got worse over time).  So you can probably watch a few season 1 episodes and decide it its for you.

My wife was a huge fan from back in the day and now my teen daughter loves it, so we binge-watched over Thanksgiving. I thought it did a very nice job of fan service - though the Dean and Sooki appearances were pretty awkwardly jammed in there. Also, why was Sutton Foster on it? Alexis Bledel finally learned how to act a little bit.

I thought they handled the demise of Richard Gilmore very well. In fact, it's what gave the reunion any kind of weight or emotional depth. Without that, I think this could have been kind of a mess. Instead, it was ultimately moving and a fitting conclusion.

Agree with this. I always felt bad for Dean, though, when it came to Rory's ex-boyfriends. Always liked him more than Jess though I'm guessing the show's creator probably is more of a #TeamJess lady. And Sooki was only there because Melissa McCarthy is a big star now and the show had to find a way to bring her back.

I thought Sookie's appearance was fine (although it's weird to bring her back for Lorelei's wedding and then not actually, you know, have her at the wedding).  The running subplot of trying to replace Sookie with celebrity chefs was awful.

They basically eloped so it didn't bother me she wasn't there although it was odd that Michel was there.

I enjoyed it while my wife fell asleep shortly into the 1st 90.   :bag:

I missed most of the final season but knew who most of the characters were. I felt like they tried to cram too much of the fast talking/quipps early but settled in nicely for the run.  I think they got almost everyone back except Chad Michael Murray and Adam Brody.  Didn't like that Rory was now someone sleeping with an engaged man but it did set up the final four words.  Reviews I read after have Jess as her Luke and Logan as her Christopher (mirroring Lorelei's men).

Wasnt a fan of Lorelei going "Wild" seemed a stretch even though they needed it to bring her back to her mother.  I thought the cameo's were all good (MR KIM!) and was glad Sebastian Bach made it.

Overall I enjoyed.

I HATED that and was watching the clock every second of that happening and was so happy it ended but did really like that final phone call scene between her and Emily. So it at least resulted in a fantastic final moment there. But God that was a dreadful storyline decision even if it had a fulfilling payoff.

Laying low with a bad back and decided to listen to the Gilmore Guys recap of the 4 seasons.

The final one for "Fall" is 5 1/2 hours long!!!
