Give me ONE player who is lighting it up in training camp (1 Viewer)

Training camp is in full swing. And while some guys are getting hurt, others are lighting it up. We all follow different teams and nobody has time to track everything. That said give me one player that is making an impression early.

My entry is Randall Cobb. He appears to have the football smarts, will, skill, attitude to make a nice impact. The Packers coaches are impressed with the way he handles himself. He's constantly quizzing Jennings and Drivers on things in order to get better. I read that during the Packers family night, the beat writer finally saw Cobb drop his first ball. This buzz reminds me of Greg Jennings when he arrived from Western Michigan.

Dane Sanzenbacher for the Bears. not sure if they have room at WR but his story reminds me of Amendola in Eagles camp not too long ago

As a Panther's fan, I've heard nothing but universal praise for Greg Olsen. Everyone is saying that he will be the #2 target on the team this year, and will be a huge redzone threat. He is also really angry at the way they used him in Chicago, so he's looking to show them that they made a mistake in letting him go. These things, plus the fact that he's entering a very TE friendly offense with a young or weak QB (lot's of dump offs) should combine into a very solid year.

For a guy that you can grab really late, I think he would have huge value.

Jason Avant. He's putting forward the best play of training camp multiple days in a row. With Maclin on the mend and Jackson with contract issues, look for Avant to step it up.

Deeeeep leagues might look at Saints WR Joe Morgan. Apparently he's been impressive.
Unless we lose Devery or L.Moore or an injury occurs, he might not see the field. It's a numbers game. A.Arringon has played limited and been on the PS for awhile. Played a few games last year.

Hence my emphasis on "deeeeep". I couldn't find any other surprise mentions regarding Saints TC. Just the usual studs.

Is he impressive? Or is he "LIGHTING IT UP!!!"

Gronkowski is Bradys security blanket. Looks to him early and often.

The problem with judging WRs from camp reports or pre-season is that it'salmost impossible to tell whether or not they have the must-have #1WR skill - the ability to get open bs NFL CBs... looking nice in the uni, making nice catches in practice or beating practice squad corners tells you next to nothing

Ryan Williams has lit it up so far.

Last Week

One week into training camp, it's easier to see why the Cardinals made Virginia Tech's Ryan Williams the 38th player drafted this year.

Williams is wearing No. 34, but no one should confuse him for Tim Hightower, who wore the number last season. Williams' quickness and ability to change directions fluidly while moving at a fast clip separates him from Hightower and 2009 first-round choice Beanie Wells.

"I am a very instinctive runner," Williams said Friday. "If I feel it, I’ll do it. If it’s a cut and I’m running 100 miles an hour, I make that cut at 100 miles an hour."
This Week:
Williams looks like the better pure runner. Where Wells is more of a downhill runner with straight-line tendencies, Williams has shown he can cut effortlessly, even at high speed. One of Williams' coaches from Virginia Tech told the Cardinals he had never coached a more talented player.

I am going to be following this very closely. I love Williams but I'm not sure how he and Wells will split.

I say give this thread a week or two...it's a little early for players to be lighting it up.
 Training Camp is over in like a week.
I think of training camp as the preseason. It's more important who's lighting it up in a couple of weeks, not now. Agree?
I disagree, in dynastly leagues anyway, the earlier you get the news and make a move the better, because if you wait to long on a player someone else may grab him.

Jason Avant. He's putting forward the best play of training camp multiple days in a row. With Maclin on the mend and Jackson with contract issues, look for Avant to step it up.
I'm really comfortable saying that if that were ever going to happen, it would have happened by now.

Mmmmmmmm... it's more important who's lighting it up in 5 weeks (and on). I don't think preseason hype is more indicative of success than camp hype. It could be even less important since the guys who are blowing it up in preseason might just be playing for a roster spot while the TC guys could have it locked up. Really, I think it depends on the individual situation.

yeah, not sure what eoMMan is thinking. You wait a week or two and that is when everyone knows the guy. The point of this thread is to get ahead

oh yeah, and I came here to ask if there is any way Sam Hurd has value in Bears camp?

Bennett, Hester, Roy, Knox, Sanzenbacher, Hurd, and Fantuz seem like the top 6, but who knows how this will shake down. Kinda reminds me of the Raiders battle except their QB and OC is better

Randall Cobb. Absolutely everything coming out of camp right now is glowing. Looks like Waldman nailed another one:

Seriously, do a search for Randall Cobb on twitter. They're all like this. I wouldn't be surprised if he has buried both Jones and Nelson by the end of preseason.

This is a good thread but I guess I think in terms of fantasy relevance and while Cobb or others may have a great camp how is that going to impact him fantasy wise? Does he have a shot to make noise this year? Every year there are guys that tear up camp and are talked about by the staff only to be forgotten forever when the season starts and it really counts.

So I guess my question is, is this an NFL buzz thread or a fantasy buzz thread? Are we looking to post things on the buzz guy in each camp (and maybe he gets the 53rd spot from being a UDFA) or post stuff on the guy that may break through and have some fantasy relevance?

The thing is, if he can bury those guys, he's by definition a very good player. Those are good players to beat out. Thompson can pick wideouts.

And then we hear things like this:
"I think to say it's a make-or-break season is a little premature," Whisenhunt said. "Like I said, Beanie is a very talented player. He's had a lot to learn, and hopefully now he's in a position where there is a very clear message about what his mission is, which is to be 'the guy.' "

Julio Jones is playing up to his lofty draft position/the huge trade the Falcons made to get him. From my notes for the ATL training camp capsule:

SI's Peter King tweeted on Julio Jones during the first day of training camp: “Julio

Jones looks like 5yr vet.” After the release of Michael Jenkins, Jones lined up with the

first-team offense in the morning walk-through practice on July 28th, and he's been in the

starting lineup since then. "This kid Julio Jones is the real deal. He's the best incoming

receiver I've ever played with. Come to think of it, it's not even close," TE Tony Gonzalez

tweeted on August 2nd. “Things are going great,” Jones said on August 5th. “I’m learning the

offense a little better. I’m working on my playbook at night. Roddy [White], Matt Ryan and

Harry [Douglas] are helping me.” Wide receiver's coach Terry Robiskie commented on August

5th “We know what we have to do to have him [Jones] ready [to start] when that whistle blows

on Sept. 11th.”

Jones is a lock to be awesome. First time I saw him on the field as a freshman at Baka I knew he was goin to be a beast on Sundays.

Lloyd is the exception, not the rule.

:thumbup:Thanks for saving me the effort. Avant may or may not show up during the season. The thread was about who is lighting up training camp. Sadly, I read/watch every training camp session. Avant is doing really well. Do what you will with that info.

So were expecting that djax sits out the season and maclin never heals? The only reason he is even being written about is that the real receivers aren't on the field. But I'm sure the puff pieces are glowing and there will be a Lloyd story every year now.

I was under the impression that Cobb is a perfect slot guy. Is he really a threat to Jones' and Nelson's touches?

Didn't he say the same thing about Stephen Williams last season? With Roberts, Doucet, Stuckey, and Williams seems the path is blocked. So does this guy look good enough to make the 53?
