Giving It Another Try With The Laugh One Click Emoji (1 Viewer)

A couple of months ago, we removed the one-click laugh emoji.

The regular laugh emoji :lmao: stayed and has always been here.

We removed the one-click emoji as people were using it to laugh AT other people. And not with. It was being used as an eye roll, "that's ridiculous" statement to mock posters.

I'm probably too much on the inclusive side of things, but there aren't many things I think kills community faster than people mocking and laughing at each other.

I'd hoped the forum would understand what we tried to do there. Many did not.

The reactions, some private, was some of the most disappointing stuff I've seen on the forum in the 25 years we've had it. I saw people I thought were friends not even give the courtesy of a reply on messages I sent. I had some of the ugliest "you don't have a clue about the forum" stuff I'd ever seen on the forum.

It was super discouraging to try and do something good and have the response be so ugly. But it is what it is.

I told folks I'd give it another look and I did. Effective now, we're going to give the one-click laugh emoji another try.

But I still hate the laughing AT other people thing.

To be clear, I've asked the mods to remove any posters who do this. And this will be completely a judgement call on the moderators. So please don't push it.

I love it if we can use it the way it's meant and genuinely laughing with other posters.

Thanks for being part of the forums.

I am totally on board with this.

Thanks for listening.

Probably won’t use it because of this. There have been some iffy timeouts over the years for things taken out of context and this is just ripe for that kind of thing happening.

I never thought it was a big deal. Could always just reply with :lmao:

Fair Warning: The Ministry of Pain is going to be super selective on the first person that gets MoP to hit the laugh emoji
-I might not use it for 6 months, but when I do hit that laugh emoji it's going to be something that literally makes me chuckle out loud

You don't get something like this handed back and just wield it around willy nilly on any old post, it's gotta be "special"

I feel like George Bailey running through the streets of Bedford Falls!

Merry Christmas one-click laughing emoji!!!

Could always just reply with :lmao:
It's about efficiency. Quick click of a "like" versus reply>click on smilies>find the correct smile. And, the "like" doesn't bump the thread and also doesn't cause increased nests of replies. "like" is cleaner and simpler. If I find something funny I'll click the laughing like. Once it was gone there was no laughing.

FTR, I'm laughing at...no no no, with dozer.

No idea what a "one click" emoji even is. I assume that's a PC mouse thing? Only access this place on my phone.
When you click on the like button of someone's post and hold it down a second, a pop up list of options comes up. The laughing emoji was gone for a while, but is back now.

Maybe it's considered "mean" or whatever but my favorite emoji of all time is rolleyes. Just my opinion but if you post something that deserves that response i don't see anything wrong with it. Or any emoji really. But I'm sort of not thin skinned that way. I know others are not so much. I do agree that just posting a laughing emoji by itself can be dismissive and annoying. Post your emoji response but then also back up your reaction with actual words. Again, JMO. I understand the spirit of what Joe is trying to do though.
