glasses people or mad cow question (1 Viewer)

So I got reading glasses 3 weeks ago. It's the first time in my life I needed glasses. I'm 43 doctor said is was normal. So my sphere is 1.5 for both. And cylinder is -.25. With an axis number. I know those last 2 are for my astigmatism.

My question, if i want to pick up some cheap readers as backup to my prescription glasses, does the sphere number = magnification?

I would want to know if your Rx is +1.50, or is that the add? At 43, I'd say +1.00 or 1.25.

If the overall Rx is +1.50, then you would probably need closer to 2.00 or 2.25.

This is what my paper says

Od sphere +1.50 cyl -0.25 axis 116

od sphere +1.50 cyl -0.25 axis 088

I read online that I should take half of the cyl and add or subtract to the sphere number.

I don't have any other numbers

just want to get some cheap backups

Go to the drugstore, pick up a pair, put them on and see how they work. Pick up a different pair with a different magnification and see if they're better or worse. Repeat until you find the ones that work best.
