Glenn Coffee (1 Viewer)

Raiders

According to FBG rankings, Glenn Coffe should go as the 20th player off the board in your Rookie drafts. That is 5 spots behind TE Jared Cook!!! Shonn Green is being drafted in the top 10 and is currently rated as the 7th best rookie, but he is 2 years older and buried on the depth chart.

As far as Coffee goes, am I missing something here, or is this a very low ranking for a RB that was drafted in the third round by the 49ers. He is killing it in the pre-season, and if anything happens to Gore he could easily find himself in the top 10 for RB's this year. Even if nothing does happen to Gore this year, I find it unlikely that the 49ers spend a top pick on another back next year, which again should increase Coffee's value.

SO, I ask you all, what is up with all of the hating on Glenn Coffee?

I like him too and remember yelling at the TV during the SEC championship game because I didn't think he was getting the ball enough. But like you said, he is YOUNGER than Shonn Greene, and a lot of others out there too. I think we'll have to wait a few years to see if he can put on more size to make himself an everydown, starting back in this league. IMO, he couldn't do it right now. No way would he go wire to wire if the Niners needed him too. Shonn Greene on the other hand is pretty much ready to go. He had a HUGE workload in college and already has prototypical NFL size. I think the fact that there are too many variable that needs to fall in place for Coffee is what makes him ranked so much lower.

I asked this months ago.

Consensus was that "nobody liked him".

fine by me, I got him in 5 dynasty leagues, Avg position early 3rd. use the groupthink/herd mentality here to your advantage.

I think he has looked pretty good so far, but I've watched his first two games and it's clear that dominant run blocking has played a big role in his success. Check out his highlights from the Oakland game. He does a good job of finding the hole and exploding through it, but any back in the league is going to look good when he has gigantic lanes to run through.

Right now I see him as sort of a poor man's Matt Forte/Chris Brown. He looks like he belongs in the NFL and it's clear that he has the backup RB job on lockdown in SF, but he hasn't shown me anything extraordinary yet.

That doesn't come close to answering the OP's question. This is a dynasty question and there are backup TEs who are ranked above Coffee.
:shrug:I was answering his question. I don't recall him mentioning dynasty, just why people were "hating" on him...

:blackdot: Coffee was in the 30's range last month, and there were still quite a few people who thought Sheets might get the job over him. I also made a comment about Coffee in one of the other rookie threads and that he was a steal in that range. He's only a Gore injury away from being a starter, and is the clear #2 for the 9ers. Hard to beat that kind of opportunity from a 3rd round rookie pick.

A players dynasty value is based on a couple of things:1) total talent and their potential2) That players chances of reaching their potential based on #13) how soon that player is likely to become a starter.Looking at this guy, you are concerned that less talented people are ranked ahead of him. I'll buy that and here is why.....the talent is there, but he will not become a starter unless Gore gets hurt. Gore is reasonably young. (I think hes around 25 or 26) and Gore is 2 years removed from an MVP season. As long as he can put up top 8 numbers as a RB he will not be losing his job anytime soon unless he gets hurt and Coffee comes in and blows the doors off.so the answer to #3 listed above is 'not anytime soon'considering this, Coffee's chances of reaching his potential also drop because he is not getting the playing time he needs to develop. Sure, he can develop as a backup, but the development is a lot slower than it would be if he got to play. This is the reason why he is ranked lower on the dynasty charts. If he gets traded, his value will shoot up about 5-10 spots in the rankings. but dont plan on it.
