Guys, I'm having some almost-buyer's remorse even before buying this house. I'm starting to think a reasonable person might move to Seattle and rent for a while before just jumping in to yet another home purchase. Yes?
I assumed this was obvious but didn't want to put a damper on your all-in enthusiasm.

That's what we did when we moved out here. Signed a 6 month lease, moved in, looked around various neighborhoods to decide where we wanted to live rather than do the whirlwind weekend, etc. Turned out swimmingly. Cost us at least $40k because of what home prices did and priced us out of any area we would have planned to live in. Ended up having to sign for another 6 months just to find SOMETHING we could buy. That ended well.
Sometimes you just gotta say, "What the ####," make your move.
Well, these posts in succession muddied it a bit for me.
Let me give more info: in addition to my recent tendency to move around (odd in that I was in Chicago for 18 years, though I did move around a lot within the city), I had intended if we stayed in Atlanta to pay cash for a house, which while not necessarily the smartest thing financially had some benefits to me given an unclear job situation. In Seattle given the neighborhoods we were looking at I was going to have to take out a mortgage.
Today I received a huge list of additional mortgage documents I would need, and some of them are very tricky given our moves in 2013 and some of the decisions I made regarding work (including not working for a few months). Also a lot of paperwork I simply don't have (tax records that of course don't exist for Nica properties, copies of checks from when we auctioned our stuff, pay stubs from my job in Memphis) and would be a huge pain in the ### to get.
If we took the time to move, rent for a while, and liquidate some other assets, I could again get in a spot for no mortgage even on a Seattle house in a location I want. It would also allow for less stress on the move--i.e., we could go when we want and not be locked into any timing, and other benefits. It would also, of course, allow for the chance of flakiness on the part of Mr. krista (less likely) or me if we decided we didn't wish to stay and would avoid taking yet another bath on a real estate matter.
On the down side, Mr. krista would have to wait a while in terms of getting his pizza oven. Otherwise I don't see a lot of downside other than obviously if the market goes nuts there in the next year.
