GM's thread about nothing (33 Viewers)

Got convinced to switch from cable to Direct TV this week at Sams. Install is next Saturday, so I've got a week to change my mind if I want to. I hate Time Warner with a passion and my monthly bill is going down, so I'm not sure how I would change my mind, but looking for thoughts.
If you have frequent heavy rainstorms DirecTv is going to piss you off.If not and you like having all of the NFL games then party on Garth.

Also, week of August 6th through the 14th I will be where you are. Cornhole sir?
I'll likely be out of town on both of those weekends, but in town all week. Need to find some shuffleboard partners.
A weeknight with some black and tans and getting my ### handed to me in shuffleboard works.Pick a night, I'll be on vacation.
In Greensboro?

I did this exact thing 3 weeks ago. Saving $50/mo for the first year, and $20/mo the second. The sales guy and manager didn't really know what they were talking about though, they said they had a wireless router, but they don't so I had to pay $50 for an install of it.

They also told me they had new technology that prevents 95% of signal loss due to storms. FAIL.... We had a loss of signal the second night, and another one last week.

They also talked me out of a second DVR for the bedroom because they said you could record 2 channels and watch a 3rd, unlike Time Warner. Another fail as it's exactly like Time Warner where you can only record 2 channels and have to watch one of those or something that's already been recorded.

Other than that it's ok, takes a bit to get used to.

I'm getting a bit more off than that, 4 free receivers (2 HD with DVR) plus 1 year free of NFL Sunday Ticket.

Was having a bad morning going at the office. It got worse...Wife just texted me that we are the proud owner of four new tires. I had no idea we even needed them. She tells me that her "tire light" had been on, but she just thought it was because one was low. Said all four were bald. She spent $400 on tires without even a mention to me first. FML.
$400 for 4 tires? That's an awesome deal. Are you sure they are made out of rubber?
Not really pissed about the price. More pissed that she drops money like this on a consistent basis without as much as a mention until it's done, and with no research at all on her part. Her financial habits are almost as frustrating as her bedroom habits are.
At least she spent $400 on something utilitarian. TRUST ME, it could be much worse. :hot:
I agree, but the fact that she spends money, without a care in the world, doesn't say anything or says something after the fact, and then complains that I need to take "full responsibility of the finances", is going to end our marriage just as fast as lack of sex. I'm glad she bought the tires, this is the same woman who punctured a hole in her oil pan while picking up the kids from school, and then drove all the way home. I picked up a trail of oil a mile from the house and laughed to myself that some poor schmuck was going to be pissed to find his car with no oil until the trail of oil turned up into my driveway and right under the closed garage door. Instead of blowing up, I stayed quiet just to see what she would say. It took three hours before she mentioned that I might want to check the car. She bumped something on the way home.
This is eerily similar to my experience. Took my then GF, now wife, camping for an annual Memorial day camping/drunk fest. First night she downs a pint of Jameson and spends the whole night throwing up. Decides to leave at about 4:00 AM and drive home by herself. Later that day, I hitch a ride for me, my dog and our stuff from another person camping. We're driving down the dirt road and there's a large protruding rock in the middle of the road, immediately followed by a trail of oil, that lasts about half a mile. My and my ride chuckled extensively about the dumb SOB that punctured their oil pan on such an obvious hazard. I finally get home and my wife isn't there. She finally shows up and yes, the poor dumb SOB was her. Seized engine. To make matters worse, sometime shortly after that, she decides that her car isn't reliable (despite having just gotten a brand new engine) and she trades it in for an OLDER, more expensive one (name brand upgrade). Of course, the "new" car ended up costing her and then me about $1700 a year until I finally unloaded it last year. :wall:
Ya'll are making me feel a little better. My wife left to go visit her folks and the next morning she calls saying the vehicle is in the shop and the bill is $3,200. Turns out right before leaving she went through the bank drive-thru and the Check Engine light came on and the temperature gauge maxxed out. Since the vehicle didn't instantaneously explode she assumed the gauges were wrong and everything was fine. Instead of calling me or returning the 3 miles back home so I could check it, she merrily went on a 3+ hour trip in 90+ degree West Texas heat. This happened 8 years ago and I'm still as incredulous as I am pissed.

Got a job offer from my second choice. Told them I would get back to them tomorrow afternoon. The money is fine, the commute is very reasonable. My first choice told me they would get back to me tomorrow. The money is similar, the commute is a little longer, but manageable.

The second choice is a large public corporation based in Nashville. :bag: The first choice is a non-profit (but very successful) based here in Austin. What's the shark play here? Leaning toward waiting until about noon, then emailing the first choice to see what's up. What say you?

SLB, UPS tried to deliver the prize package yesterday but nobody is around during the day so I'll need to pick it up from them probably tomorrow night or Saturday morning.

Ask Timschochet and then do the opposite.

I'm in recruiting, so I guess my opinion is Werth slightly more than my opinion in any other circumstance:Call the first company around 10 AM if possible (if not, then email) go give them and yourself a little more time in the day. Tell them the truth that you have another offer that you are considering, but that they are your first choice. But that said, that you're not going to pass on the second choice to wait around on a possible offer from them.

Funny family semi-drama went down yesterday.

My brother sent out an email to about 10 various family members, including our mother, about getting together Fathers Day. It's also his birthday this weekend so he's hosting the gathering at his house. Now my brother is 52 or so and is so-so when it comes to internet stuff. I open my mailbox yesterday and there are a bunch messages all within a 30 minute window.

2:00 ago. From McJuan@energygiant.com: Fathers Day Plans

2:10 ago. From McJuan@energygiant.com: EMAIL RECALL

2:12 ago. From McJuan@energygiant.com: EMAIL RECALL

2:20 ago. From McLupe@nightschool.com: re Fathers Day i fixed it

2:23 ago. From McMaria@phonecompany.com (my sister): re Fathers Day Plans

2:30 ago. From McJuan@energygiant.com: re Fathers Day sorry

So the original email my brother sent out said when we were getting together and what everybody should bring to eat. BUT for some unknown reason he also accidentally included a long chain of emails he had with his wife earlier in the day. In one part of it he said something like "golfing yesterday was fun but spending 5 hours with my whack-job mother was tough". Keep in mind that our mom was sent this as well.

So my sister notices this and calls my brother. He thinks that if he recalls the email despite the fact that none of us work for his company, it will work. So that doesn't work. My niece is smart enough to know that my mom still uses aol.com for email AND she remembered her password.

Niece logs into my mom's email and deletes the one with "whack-job" in it.

My sister sends out an email telling everybody what happened and not to say anything to my mom about it. My favorite part is that all of the emails also went to my step-mom, my dad's 2nd wife. She was probably laughing her ### off at her husband's ex-wife being called a nut by her own kids.

My brother is a dumb-###.

The worst part is that the email exchange between my brother and his wife almost made me puke. If I have time later on I'll copy it here. My favorite part is where my brother says to her "I'M SO HAPPY TO BE YOUR HUSBAND" or some vomit like that.

I've still got the original email. I'm thinking about blackmailing my brother with it. He makes a pretty good salary. I bet I could get at least $73 out of it.

Or you can go to White Water by yourself. Pretty sure I mentioned this already but I still keep thinking about it and it makes me angry. 2 adults, 2 kids,
$157

Hey Krista, HGTV last night had House Hunters International on and there was a couple looking at houses in Granada, Nicaragua. BSR loved the place and I told him you were getting a place there and FBGs were invited. :D
Oh goodness, what else?
<_<
I don't get the comment from SLBD.If it was the one with the restaurant owners (Nectar), the house they bought is actually one that Mr. Krista looked at when he went house hunting. Apparently they changed their minds! We did close on a house last week. Will post pics after we go to finish all our shopping July 4 weekend. :)
It was a British couple. I'll have to show BSR the pics when you post them.
Got home and fired through the 24 TiVo'd episodes ( :bag: ) to find this one. The house they ended up buying is across the street from ours! One of our friends had pointed the house out to us and said it was very nice--it looked lovely on the show. The third house was on Laguna de Apoyo, which was an area I considered because it is so beautiful, but it is NOT as they claimed only 10 minutes from town--more like 25-30, on that really bad road. The realtor they used was the thief Carlos Gutierrez, who was the one that attempted to steal $22K from us. I'm going to write to HHI and suggest they not feature thieves in the future. <_<

Last day of school today, on Coop's birthday, no less. So I have one kid who's birthday coincides with the last day of school and another who's birthday is either on or really close to Thanksgiving, meaning no school for his birthday either. I am one gifted shooter, boys and girls. I hope my kids appreciate me.

Oh yeah my brother and his wife SHARE a facebook account: "Gary N Diane Boyle" or whatever

They are one of those couples that do EVERYTHING together from golfing to working out. A few years ago we went to a birthday party for my aunt and uncle who are twins. Some freaking genius had the brilliant idea to make it a theme party. You had a choice: You could dress up like my aunt or uncle or find a partner and dress as twins. I just put on a checkered shirt and some glasses and went as my uncle.

My brother and his wife dressed as twins...both of them wore overalls with a red shirt. They showed up holding hands. Oh did I mention this party was in public at a bar/bowling alley? I told them both not to stand within 50 feet of me.

Yeah, wait...what?One hundred fifty seven dollars is the admission cost for 2 adults and 2 children into a water park. Pisses me off.

:lmao: My sis does similar at least twice a year. She and her boyfriend will have a week long series of emails on some topic and I will eventually come up because I have more in common with him than she does. He will say, "Let your brother know I'll be there around 6." She will forward a month of their intimate emails to me and say, "Mike will be there around 6." I have never told her she does this, so they are very suspicious of certain knowledge I have about them. :lmao:

That couple I'm supposed to marry just had a big fight because she assumed that they would go the the grocery store together all the time. I guess she and her ex always did. New guy was like WTF no.

Jesus ####, dude. That's an odd choice of descriptors. I realize that they're technically a nonprofit, but:
Seton is a ten-hospital system generating $1.5 billion of net revenue.
Anyhow, my wife has a fair amount of experience with the small nonprofit world, so I thought I might be able to provide some additional advice, but I guess not.

Yea I got that same package, except I got 1 HD DVR, 1 HD Box, and 2 regular boxes. Got the Sunday Ticket for a year, and all the movie channels for 3 mos. All for $79/mo

Anyone know how to find out the origination of an email address?

A buddy of mine is a HS Baseball coach, and he's been getting some threatening emails. He thanks it's from one of the kids he cut and asked me if I could find out where it came from.

ETA, he says it's a gmal address.

If you want to shell out a few bucks, you can try Intelius or US Search.

On Saturday morning, I'm flying halfway across the country with a hyperactive two year old that's never flown before, an AngryWife that's seven months pregnant, and my mother and father in law. Thinking about creating a bit of a stir at the airport and begging the TSA folks to haul me in so I miss the flight.

Take a bunch of Scotch Tape. Years ago I flew from Atlanta to Toronto next to William H. Macy (look at me) and he told me that that was how he entertained his girls (ages 2-ish and 4-ish at the time) on all of the cross-country flights between LA and NYC. He would always have to apologize to the flight attendants, who would have to clean up the tape that he wasn't able to clean in time, but it kept the girls occupied for a good part of the flight.

:goodposting: But wouldn't duct tape be better for taping his wife's and kid's mouths shut?
