GM's thread about nothing (40 Viewers)

I'm having a 3/8 life crisis. We are planning to move to SC when we sell our house, and I have no idea what type of employment I want to seek. Have done sales and marketing in the past but not sure that's what I want to do. Feels really gross to be this unambitious.
Moving back home? IIRC you are from upstate? If not, and you end up in the low country, you should think about real estate. At least in Beaufort-Edisto-Hilton Head-Kiawah, e.g., the upscale golf areas, they weathered the storm pretty well. Always going to be demand for quality second home/retirement developments.
Yep, Greenville. It's home and I have a ton of networking contacts. I just feel like, "hey, I'm looking for a job and I am pretty smart, completely trainable and will work hard but I don't really know what I want to do... just looking for 35-50 hours a week with benefits" isn't my best schpeel. Mr. YSR will also be looking, but he could sell black ice to shuke, so I'm not too concerned about him.
I wouldn't write that strategy off just yet. That's almost verbatim what I used to get out of the Big Four grind and onto the executive track. I went from multi-state tax consulting (designing Enron style faux shells) to Controller (e.g., general ledger + financial statements). That might sound semi-focused, but trust me, they're not even remotely related. I kind of lucked out and found someone who was so enamored with PriceWaterhouseCoopers on my resume that they kind of overlooked I was going to be a clueless OTJ flunkie for the first six months. Worth noting I was having a 3/8ths life crisis at the time as well.Any thoughts on getting your masters? How about making babies? Family will be there to help out, and when you still don't know what you want in 2-3 years, do it again. Those seem like the two likely solutions to realizing you still don't know what you want to do when you grow up.

FWIW, I never figured it out. I just found a way to get compensated ridiculous amounts for basically managing expectations, and deal with all the PITA b.s. stuff. I spent a lot of time staring at the ocean this summer, realizing I hate what I do, but kind of trapped at the same time. Grind away for another 10-12 years and then I can goof off or pursue something else.

Are the Texas folk ok? There's a whole lot of burning down there.
I'm fine. Apparently my place lost power and water pressure this afternoon due to a small fire in my part of town, it's all good now. And my problems are irrelevant compared to folks in some of the bedroom communities and suburbs.

A FB pal just showed me a whole series on YouTube of foreign people pronouncing English words.

The shtick potential for these is infinite.

"Bee-piss. Bee....ah in the piss. Bee-piss."

:lmao:

so the owner of our company is in his mid-80s and he likes to come to the office about every week or two. Just a few minutes ago he came out of his office and walked into mine. I had to keep myself from :lmao: as he farted with every step he took. I'm talking about those loud farts that sound like bullfrogs croaking. I'm not sure if he can't hear them, or he can't control them so he justs ignores them.

Then as I talked with him I had to keep myself from :X as the smell followed him in here. Pretty sure the guy's insides have begun to rot and ferment.

He's in the restroom now probably checking his shorts.

Old man fart smell, combined with the nasty Old Man Sweaty Ballsack smell makes my gym bathroom the most vile place on earth. I actually hold my breath when I pee.

I used to go to a public gym in NYC- throw in "homeless" before the "old man", and you're on par with what I went through at that place.

I think GM already mentioned here or in one of his newsletters, but you should all think of joining the NFL pickem pool here. Derek's been around a long time here and I've interacted with him several times, i.e., I don't think he'll steal all the entry fees.
And I fully support SLB's pool, as well. You should all join that one, too.SLB - You never said we were exclusive. I'm not sure if I'm ready to commit to a single wagering pool at this point in my life.
:lmao: I wasn't looking for that, I was looking to be paid.
Can you PM me your email? Can't seem to locate anywhere.

Man I sure miss Finless :kicksrock:
He back in rehab?

He said "Finless" not "Clifford". How can one person have two different usernames?

Need a little assistance if anyone can...

I'm not much of a tv watcher, so any time new movies come out the only way I hear about them are generally a) trailers b) FFA or c) okay some movies you can't really miss on print or television ad, like Michael Bay movies, etc...

So, anyhow, my wife today suggests we go out to the movies this weekend and she said she would like to see Warrior.

linkage

okay, so at first glance, this does not come off looking like any movie my wife would want to see in a million years....so has anyone heard of this one? seen it? Mostly I'm afraid I'm going to have to deal with copious amounts of male full frontal nudity....and I'm not so sure I want to view that - last Tom Hardy movie I saw was "Bronson" and well, that had some uncomfortable scenes and we'll leave it at that.

TIA

Oh by the way those who know baseball will get what I'm talking about here. The game we went to at Yankee Stadium was all set up so we were going to get to see Mariano Rivera enter the game to Enter Sandman. We were pumped. Then Jon Rauch gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th because he sucks. Mad.

I hate it when that happens.

Ate before the game at Billy's (Stan's was packed but we grab a beer there after the game), grabbed some pizza at Famous Original Ray's (had to because of seinfeld), and then had some late night apps at a bar called Rumors or something like that. We were way too wiped out by then to put any actual effort in to get anywhere, but the rest of your advice was spot on - thanks again.
