Hoop Dreams revolutionized the doc gameWouldn't be a Waiting for Superman without Hoop Dreams
SureI guess I'm in the minority here, but after watching Hoop Dreams I don't have the thought "wow, that was incredible". Or "my God, we need to change what we are doing as a society". It's considered one of the greatest movies of all time by critics. Maybe THE greatest doc. Overrated.
yeah but you're 20 years late on it.

Really glad you got engaged.

Iamsmilin sure taking personal vendetta in AR's thread
#noprudeShe's closer to right than wrong, given who she's talking to
i'm not taking sides, as I could never even fathom what AR has got going on...but you can tell ARs actions cut deep for whatever reason. It's like she won't quit until AR admits that he was wrong and apologizes to all women everywhere.
That's kind of her m.o., no?
I'm not sure. I never really paid much attention to her ;shrug:

And there's no way this is a fishing trip?
I guess there's a chance. But AR's been long and documented about his open marriage for awhile. These types of things happen..no reason not to believe him IMO. No sweat if it is fishing though...it's been a fun thread to follow

Why I love teaching part 214:Today in History was about the 1986 space shuttle Challenger disaster. After I talk about it this kid raises his hand:Kid: Didn't they make a movie about this?Me: Um, I think there was a made-for-tv movie about it. And I'm sure more than one documentary.Kid: I think it had that guy from Die Hard.Me: Bruce Willis?Kid: Yeah!Me: Please tell me you're not thinking of "Armageddon".Kid: That's it!

I thought GM would appreciate this.

We were in Elk, CA (Population 238, iirc) over the weekend. There's not much IN Elk, CA. Driving in any direction from Elk, CA doesn't produce much more, unless you're trying to find an ocean, in which case driving west would quickly end your search.

About 25 miles outisde Elk, in Fort Bragg, we happened upon a store that produced the following from my wife: "Oh, holy ####ing hell, I've never been so happy to see a Rite Aid in my life."

I don't think we'll be moving to Elk anytime soon.
She's a smart woman. :goodposting:
Wait 'til I tell the other story.
:coffee:
##### poured soy sauce on my rice and stole my underwear, so I had to send her to the hospital for a metal face plate.

Hoop Dreams was/is really depressing. 3 hours of viewing and countless hours of footage resulting in that? :kicksrock:If I wanted a sad ending to a basketball story I'd go to Venice Beach and try to recreate the American History X blacks vs. whites game.

Have you been updating the Teacher Tree?

iJOBS - the movie where Ashton Kutcher plays Steve Jobs was screened at Sundance

"Over and over again, minor characters explain to him why something can't be done; Kutcher-as-Jobs smiles enigmatically and waves away their concerns," writes Casey Newton for CNET.
oh no... oh #### no

Maybe you Hoop Dreams haters should stick to Space Jam?

I saw it in the mid-90s and didn't think it was so fantastic. I remembered that and gave it another shot last night - same conclusion. It's not because it's sad. Maybe because I think Agee was a jerk and Gates was dull. Not emotionally invested. Again.. good documentary. Not the greatest documentary of all time.

Since it appears that I will never receive my GMTAN Secret Santa gift.... an autographed coshole group photo would be an excellent proxy gift.

Come on that's not even one of Spielberg's best

Yea I get in just before noon Friday.
We get in at 1:40
Stu, Uni and I will be down sometime early on Friday, still working out the details. I'm not sure if I have ever pulled into Austin without stopping at Whip In first, but can probably figure it out.
Delta moved my arrival time back ~45 minutes, so I don't get in until just before 4p now :kicksrock:I looked into switching flights, but they want to charge me an additional $150+ I like you guys, but $150 for an extra 4 hours is a bit steep
