GM's thread about nothing (54 Viewers)

Anybody here have experience and or tips on selling a used high end wrist watch? I inherited one years ago and love it, but I never wear it anymore. Never sold anything on Ebay, but am open to it. I don't think a pawn shop is right for this, is it? Thoughts?
No pawn shops. You've seen the show. You're lucky to get 30% of its value. Pawn shops generally gauge the value of what they buy by looking on eBay. eBay/Amazon set the world market.

eBay sounds like a good call for something like that, but if you don't have any feedback a lot of people wouldn't bid on it. Maybe someone around here has a good eBay rating and would do it for you.

So you sent in the adoption papers?! :excited:

I had a dream last night I was attending college at UoT in Austin and rode a motor cycle all over campus.
You dreamed you were me in 1980?

If so, don't take those mushrooms the guy in the RTF building gave me during the Italian cinema class.
lol

www.watchuseek.com has an active buying/selling forum although, like eBay, a brand new person selling a high-end item is going to raise some flags. Take a look around there though to get an idea of what you're looking at.Out of curiosity, what's the watch?

I'm grateful for the opportunity to repay you by providing reassurance right back to you. Relax, it's probably just this...

I've been drawing some comfort from the fact that krista's clearly lost her mind over the move to Nigeria, but I'm looking for further reassurance. All women are exceptionally bad at dealing with change, right?

I have some paperwork with the watch, but I think it's only an appraisal from a jeweler in Dallas done years ago. I pay insurance on it, but I haven't worn it in well over a year.

It's a Brugeut (sp?).

Anyone interested in trading us a QB that 1) does not have a week 10 bye week and 2) is likely to be playing in week 10 unless broken?

Yowza. No experience with anything that pricey... Maybe a consignment shop or auction house would be better?

Yeah, I think giving up a high-paying job and career, selling everything I own, and moving to a third-world country is a wee bit more change than one's everyday "I don't like the new living room color" or whatever.

Make sure your passport is up-to-date!
And you can't bring a purse with you.
and you have to wear a cat costume and be shipped in the cargo hold.

Saturday was Carnaval, and yesterday was the big horse parade (3,000 horses right through the middle of town). Horse parade was fun but now the city smells like ####.

No pawn shops. Ebay is a great secondary market for high-end time pieces, there are other places out there as well. I think Watchcrowd has some avenues also, there are many outlets for these. If you find a local jeweler who deals in used Rolexs/Breitlings/Etc, you might get a fair price from them as well.

Pretty sure we established "in-draft" trades are allowed.

No in-season trades.

Go get that looked at. Google a local guy who sells used Rolexs (one who is a certified Rolex dealer is best) and take it in and have it ballparked for value. That might be a $10k watch, ebay might not be great outlet. You might have to go to an international on-line marketplace, which the jeweler might also know. Get it valued, certified and then find a place to sell.

Thanks, GB. I might try to find a local spot that's a step up from American Jewelry & Loan. ;)

Kinda nervous about selling it. I love it, but it's just not me. I get worried when I wear it (drunken idiot worry; not downtown Memphis worry) and if I leave it to my kids, well...I have to choose. If I got a fair price, I could put that money in their college funds. Or snort it.

When we went to the first one, I told him I was going to the store first. He asked me why and I said I am against paying out of service fees for ATM withdrawals, so I bought a couple of beers and got cash back. He was aghast that I would only roll in there with the $40 they allowed me to take out at the store. I assured him we would have to work very hard to spend more than $40 at the Acrop. Of course, that was long before the liquor made Chase propose to a stripper named Sin and well before he forgot where his brother lived. :lmao:
