Happy to hear about the dachshund. Do they have a lot of these problems? I noticed when at the emergency vet today that about 20% of their client pictures involved dachshunds, often with spinal problems.

On a separate front, I've decided Ignoramus might be the most underappreciated poster 'round here, in terms of funny ratio.

Yes, dachshunds are prone to being overweight and prone to spinal issues due to their backs. At the neurosurgeon's office (yes, doggie neurosurgeon is a thing if any of you kids are looking for guidance counseling) something like 85-90% of their patients are dachshunds.

Our taxi driver (yes, we're in Atlanta with no car) to the second vet today had an air freshener that was called "Black Ice". My first thought was, "WTF scent is that?" and my second was to get a picture for shuke.

Not to dump out more sadness in this thread but my yellow lab who has been the faithful companion for my family for 12 years has a tumor and is now on cancer meds. Was at the vet with him this morning. He has been up in the middle of the night multiple time to go out and do his business. Been losing weight now for 5 months. The vet says the tumor has gotten bigger. I know the end is getting close for him and I hate to think about it.

I felt like we needed to talk to the kids about it last night to try to prepare them some. My youngest was a mess and still starts to tear up and give the dog hugs. I can't stand the thought of having to let the kids say goodbye to him but it is coming soon. It has been breaking my heart all day.

I had my wife cut out three of the stitches in the roof of my mouth tonight. Holy #### what an ordeal.

Still awaiting word on Fuzzy surgery. When we left him at the second vet, we were told "no phone calls tonight means good news". Since then I've received three phone calls. I don't want any more. :(

One more phone call, with not-bad news. Fuzzy out of surgery now, which went fine but "not out of the woods". Next update morning tomorrow if all goes OK.

TPW for Cal, your family and you GB, I can't even imagine how heart wrenching it must be to hear that.

I have been debating posting about this with all of the difficult things a lot of GMTANers are experiencing. But I really wanted to post this, esp to get Tanner's thoughts, but we have taken our oldest in for neuropysch testing to hopefully help in figuring out what his difficulties with reading/math are. He's in the 4th grade but is reading at only the beginning of 2nd grade level. His math has been close to grade level when he is read the word problems but is starting to slip and he's back in what they refer to as intervention for math and he's been in the reading intervention since 1st grade.

He's having such a hard time but he's working his ### off but not making a lot of progress. We have no idea how to help him, we have had summer tutoring for the last 3 years to try and help catch him up but it doesn't seem to be helping in catching him, just slowing down his falling behind. We meet with the neuropysch next month to get the results, hopefully she'll have a better approach in how to teach him so he understands better.

Man, I wish I could give you some solid info but this really isn't my field (elementary ed, learning problems etc). Sorry.

But keep on looking into ANY available help you can get.

This was not a good night to login to the GMTAN at 12:27am to catch up on 4 pages after being at softball all night (we won both games, 20-runned 'em in one :woz:). TPW to everyone dealing with bad stuff. And I mean it.
