Dammit. If this Bob story ends up at a place that I don't have access to then my life will be less fulfilled.

Temperature is down to 70 in Austin so I am in a jacket.
Sorry, man. You okay?
Just drinking some PBR and thinking of you.
Glad we could do it together.
Anything for you. You're free to stop by now that I'm at home and drinking beer in my underwear.
This offer open to anyone?
:hifive:

Of all the sad stuff I've read in the FFA the last however many years (mostly here in the GMTAN over the last 3 months to be honest) the Chance thing has just absolutely gutted me. :( Hug my son tighter and more often ever day.

Found out today that I won two tickets to the Portland Timbers/Seattle Sounders game Sunday night. Taking my boy, and we both got ourselves fired up by watching youtubes of the Timbers crowd chanting and singing and carrying on and whatnot. GM > if I remember right you're an attender of Timbers games. Any tips for a guy whose only knowledge of soccer comes from three games I've seen of 9-year-olds playing soccer so far this year? Are we in for a treat?

Is it true that Jack Kemp is starting at QB for the Bills this week? I hate to take road teams in a Survivor League, but man...if Cincy can't beat the Bills with a backup, backup, backup never-played before QB, what can they beat? Other than Tom Brady and the Pats, of course.

I've only attended one game this year, but have gone to probably 7 or 8 total since they arrived here. It's a scene, man. You won't do much sitting down. The stadium is smack dab in the middle of downtown and could not be any easier to get to with the light rail servicing it from all directions. There are a million bars/restaurants around Jeld Wen Field and I'd be happy to give you some recommendations. Are you staying overnight or just driving in and back?

Hope the weather is nice. Crowd is fantastic. Timbers Army is a trip to watch. It's a very European feel, from what I'm told. I've never been, but if you watched the Real Sports segment on the way the Sounders are treated in Seattle, it's about as wild and well received down here too.

Yeah, we're coming up for the weekend, taking my son to this Lego thing at the Convention Center and just kinda bumming around. Found out today I won the tickets through work, so timing works out well though we'll have to drive home (about 3 hours) after the game in order to be at work Monday. Downside is it's only two tickets so wife will have to find something else to do while we're at the game.

Timbers Army looked very cool on the videos we watched. I'm pretty excited just to be in that atmosphere. Rain or clear, I think it sounds fun. I'd gladly take your recommendations around Jeld Wen. Thanks man.

Thad Lewis starting. He's slightly better than a dead Jack Kemp (RIP). He does have an NFL start under his belt.

Whoa, he died? Wasn't he just up for VP or something a few years ago? Seem to recall a much older Bob Dole saying he needed a 10 to win and got himself a 20. Well, condolences. Had no idea.

sooooooo...Frosty's league is down to 9? :oldunsure:
I'm one of the last ones standing.
Chop the pot?
9 ways?
We discouraged from dry humor on page 3075?

I lost on SD this week. Was planning on taking whoever was playing Jax or Stl the rest of the year.
Your Rams carried me to glory this week.
You have more guts than me.
They made me very nervous a few times along the way, but yeah...short the Jags is the right play this season. Sadly, I burned up my Broncos pick early this year.

Thad Lewis? Really? I'm going to have to look him up.

I can't quote on this phone. That was in response to chance news. I don't even know bb irl or anything but I feel sick
Same here. All of my co-workers could turn up missing and I'm sure I'd be just fine with their replacements but the child of a guy from the internet gets sick and I'm heartbroken and in tears.

I am not going to tell you to hang tough, don't give up or what not. Because, frankly, I am not sure I would be strong enough to continue living were I in your shoes. But, If I could offer up anything of value, I would encourage you to discuss with your son things or something you can do to honor his life in some meaningful way. If you have any desire to live after your son passes, maybe you will find strength, comfort and peace in knowing that you are living in a manner that allows the beauty and spirit of your son to live on through you.
WTF? Who the hell is this?
An epic ###hole.
I wondered about that one too. Some strange people here.

I'm done going in to the chance thread. I don't know how i would behave in situation , but I doubt it would be with the dignity and grace bb is showing.

I can't go in there without crying. It's not even a graceful cry... it's a messy, snotty cry and my throat aches and my stomach is sick. I want to show him support but words just fail me.

I feel like there has to be something, some way we can honor Chance. Donation to the hospital he was treated at, somethign dedicated in his name. Some small gesture.

Anybody with ideas?

Food. Have frozen meals, steak, English muffins, fruit baskets, etc delivered so they don't have to worry about making meals for the next month or two?

They fail everyone. There's obviously nothing you can say that's going to make his son less sick. But if the messages people are posting help support him and help keep his spirits up in a difficult time, then they're worth posting, however brief and trivial.

Post your question in the soccer thread too.

For a first game, just enjoy the day out with your son. Maybe try to appreciate the players' movement off the ball - point out to him how the other players move to support their teammate who has the ball.

I swear on my sweater vests, for all the issues I've created for myself in this life it will all be worth it if I end up an old man sitting on the porch watching the waves in Panama City Beach while drinking whiskey and listening to Van Morrison as the sun goes down. That is all.

That thread has really affected me. Instead of sleeping on the couch last night, I woke my daughter up and brought her to sleep in bed with my wife and me. It was nice.

And walked my 7th grade son to school this morning. He was goofing on me for being the only dad who walked their kid, but he let me. And we palled around as we walked. It was lovely.

Donation to a college fund in Chance's name for his brother.
Don't do that without the family's permission. Every family will deal with this differently. "Moving on" for them might not include a sibling who's saddled with a college education in his brother's name, while other families might think that's great.

A "safe" thing to do might be for people to go in on a flower arrangement at the memorial service, but even that might be considered strange by family members if anonymous ifriends sent a flower arrangement.

Give this some thought, in other words.

My son's with his mom until Thursday night, and that seems like an awful long time for me.
