GM's thread about nothing (46 Viewers)

Holy poop.. best friend just called to tell me his sister (my sister for all intents... known her since I was 6) was the driver in this accident.

Off the highway, off a bridge, down a 50 foot embankment... was NOT wearing seatbelt and airbag did NOT deploy. He happened to be a few minutes away when it happened and got there just after the paramedics (she called her husband who called their mom who called my friend). Said he couldn't believe she was alive based on the condition of the car and the fact that she had a head wound that made SLB's look like a paper cut. Filleted open from just above her left eye over the top to the back right side of her head.

She was conscious the whole time. Life-flighted to hospital. Cat scans negative. Sent her home at 3 am (accident was around 5pm) with several hundred stitches and staples and no apparent broken bones. Miracle she's alive.

Tanner, quick update on our team:

1. We have Julio Jones.

2. Our QBs are still Matt Flynn, Jake Locker, and Josh Freeman.

3. I forgot to set a lineup last week

4. We do have one win.

5. We have more points than four teams including the 4-1 Ice bags & Nachos

6. We have the third most points scored against us.
:o To the waiver wire!

damn. Is she hot? If so, does she need tending to?

I feel rather dickmittenish posting this with everything that BB is going through with his son but I owed an update to the GMTAN about my son and his issues. We met with the Nueropsychologist yesterday to find out the results of the testing my son had last month regarding his reading and learning issues. Some good news and some not so good news.

Good news, no ADHD type issue is neither the root cause nor a contributor to his issues with reading. She has a diagnosis of mild unspecified adhd type with no need for meds or any intervention. Essentially there is no clinical indication of ADHD but she saw a few minor things that resulted in that diagnosis. That's the good news.

The not so good news. He has a severe reading disability. It's tied to visual issues primarily visual memory, which is a severe problem for him. Most of the tests relating to the visual perception, processing, memory all scored in the low or very low and some were less than 1% meaning that 99% of kids his age are above where he's at. He also has an issue with phonological processing being very slow, which causes reading comprehension problems on it's own. He also has major visual tracking issues. Those of you with younger kids will likely know what sight words are. Because of the visual issues he has, sight words are something he can't do without serious repetition. He recognizes letters, but not like you and I do. It takes him a minute to get the letters and then he has to begin the process of decoding the sounds in the word. He can't just learn the word one time or after a few times, it can take thousands of times before he can recognize it from memory and often times it can take longer.

The doctor recommended seeing a developmental ophthalmologist to see if there are any issues with his eyes (his vision is fine) that are contributing/causing the issues. If there are not we are at the limits of what can be done to help him. Reading will likely always be a problem for him and be a big challenge for the rest of his life. She really had no suggestions on any programs that are better than the one he is in currently, or anywhere we can turn to for additional help.

She had a few suggestions on things the school can do to further help, ie audio books, use of a computer as often as possible. Extra time on all tests and homework, tests read to him, etc. So we have passed that on the to school and will be meeting with them at the end of the month, and hopefully they will have implemented those suggestions by the time that meeting occurs.

More good news. His auditory modality functions at the 98 and 99%, meaning if he can hear it he will learn it. He can't recognize it visually but knows and understands it verbally. That's a huge positive and will be a very big asset to him. Also, his difficulties are not affecting his self-confidence. He understands he has an issue, knows he will need help with things but it doesn’t bother him. He’s only slightly concerned about bad grades but nothing else. He has a very high self-awareness and some other stuff I can’t remember but from her tests she doesn’t have any concerns with him and self-esteem which is a big concern of mine.

The last bit of good news is that everyone has commented on how hard he works, even though he’s not making a lot of progress he still puts forth a ton of effort.

That’s where we stand today, we have an apt with the eye doctor on 10/22 and hopefully will get encouraging results that they can help with his visual issues.

Thanks to all of you that have offered support, PMs and advice, it’s greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what city/state you live in, but don't just assume the school will put full effort into this unless you push and keep pushing. Get used to that mindset and fight for him. Get everything you can to get him an advantage.

That's great news about his auditory learning. He's likely already started to compensate, and it will serve him well.

Just go and do as much research as you can on his particular problem (is there a specific diagnosis they gave you, meaning a name?) and see what else you can do to help him.

We are already pushing on everything we can for him. We sent over the report to them today and will be asking him if those things are occurring by the end of the week. If not we will start to move this up the chain and start rattling cages.

His doctor used to be a teacher and gave us a nice pathway if things don't happen. If we can't get them to make changes, let them know that we will be getting an advocate, if after an advocate is involved things don't happen then it's on to an educational lawyer. Both advocates and lawyers are something the school doesn't want to get involved with and I think they will make the requested changes since it doesn't require much in the way of $$ on their part.

TIger Fan - off to see a Pearl Jam cover band at the Hard Rock Pittsburgh, then the real thing tomorrow at the Consol across town....first time seeing PJ...Anything to expect? Anything that they may not play?(if they play Black and Yellow Ledbetter my wife will go nuts)

The best part about being a Pearl Jam cover band is that you can say that you don't sell your shows through Ticketmaster because you're against their control of the music industry. :headbang:

Besides ####ty music?
That's it, we're breaking up.
Maybe he's seen the cover band.
Eh...it's more my wife that wants to see them....My musical tastes would probably make tanner wanna hang himself.

6 years later and people are still fawning over Smails' Chili.

It might make me worse than Hitler, but I have to tell you, I wasn't a fan.

First show on a new tour, could be all over the place. They really mix up their sets alot, so don't expect all the hits. About the only thing you're guaranteed to hear is Even Flow. More likley to hear Ledbetter than Black. But you could hear both.

YOU NEVER KNOW :excited:

Looked like a crapload of work. All those ingredients, all that prep and in the end you have....chili.
I made a batch of it last year but - for some ungodly reason - I tripled all of the quantities :loco:

It was fine, but way more work than I want to put in.

Mexican and I got pretty wasted at a PJ cover band in New Orleans a handful of years back. We were rocking out in the front row...and by front row, I mean we were the first couple of people in the crowd of about 30.

Holy poop.. best friend just called to tell me his sister (my sister for all intents... known her since I was 6) was the driver in this accident.

Off the highway, off a bridge, down a 50 foot embankment... was NOT wearing seatbelt and airbag did NOT deploy.

Every since I can remember, whenever there's a car accident involving a female driver, my father would always "I don't know why they let them drive". My mother would give him a dirty look and he'd laugh and say "just kidding" But then he'd look at me and whisper "I'm really not kidding". Anyways, glad your "friend's" sister is alive.

Speaking of sisters... Sweet J has been lacking on posting FB pics.

We have seen the band before. They are called Ten. Not too bad of a group

Changed my survivor pick from Seattle to Chicago 5 minutes before kickoff. I knew the Giants were going "Defense Optional" tonight, but I didn't know the Bears were following suit. FML.

I saw a band called The Pictures tonight. They covered Pearl Jam. They also played the Cupid Shuffle.
Did you do it?
Of course I did. This one was a family effort. I Cupid Shuffled with Yuke in arm and Angrywife did it while trying to teach JR the dance.

It's actually the second time in last coupled weeks I've Cupid Shuffled. I let some chick from the Belton Convention & Visitors Bureau talk me into it at a conference a couple weeks ago.

I'm not sure if I should be proud or ashamed. I'm leaning ashamed.
