GM's thread about nothing (46 Viewers)

I'm sure RVs drive better than the tailgate bus, but I can't hardly imagine anything worse than trying to drive that thing most of the way across the country.

You realize those brands come in non-light version, right?
Do they still taste crappy though? I may need to investigate this.
High Life is good. Pretty much everything in my rotation is $1 a beer or less: Shiner Bock, Yeungling, Hudepohl Amber, Dos Equis Amber, etc.
You can get Yuengling for less than $1 a beer? Yet I can't get it at all unless I'm on vacation or guster sends to me like a boss.

Shuke - pretty sure I won't be able to make it to Salt Lick. It's an hour from my house and with the kid birth imminent, I'm not straying too far. Can I take you to lunch one day while you are here?
Too busy. We don't have to go all the way to Salt Lick for dinner. Kev and cos love them some Amaya's.

Abe, how many of these are in your regular rotation?
I like Jager bombs and Jello shots.
Fireball is the only one on that list I have not had in the past year or so :oldunsure:
You've had both Boone's and MD in the last year??
I guess it's been a while since I've had MD now that I think about it. But yes it seems Boone's is at many a party during the summer. It's very refreshing on a hot day

Seriously had a craving for some Thunderbird not long ago. I wonder if they still sell it.

My wife "won" a bottle of Boone's Farm at our christmas thing, and has already decided it's her white elephant gift for next year, and my parents had owned it for 2 years already. So I guess its pretty aged now but the point is that not even my wife will drink it. Also I meant to say that I had a friend who used to mix boones farm with kool-aid. he wasn't a big drinker.

i'm going to bed.

Renting an RV to drive us and the four cats from Atlanta to Seattle: an idea I might not be able to resist.
This sounds awesome. Except for the cats.
:lmao: I really would love to do it. I just can't decide if having the cats along would be hilarious or awful.
It would be hilarious for us. That's all that really matters.

I drove a pretty big one from Chicago to Bonnaroo and back, and I didn't mind it. Guess I won't ask to borrow the tailgate bus. :kicksrock:

I like to drink and not pay attention to what I'm doing while driving. Neither of those work very well in a gigantic vehicle that is slow in responding. YMMV.

roverkid was flying back from syracuse today...got to O'Hare ontime but then the plane got stuck on the runway. apparently they had to use trucks to tow it, and the first truck also got stuck. she spent two hours on the runway and missed her connecting flight and is looking at another 5-7 hours before the next flight.

then her phone died. she has a charger, so hopefully she'll let me know her new flight number.
The thing you need to remember about kids, Mr. Pockets, is that you can always make another one.

I think I'm turning into the kind of person who doesn't like coors light miller lite bud light etc.

This is horrible.
I went through a little bit of that in the aughts. Now I'm back to thinking any beer is better than no beer. I don't drink much of the flagship brands though. Prefer to save a few bucks and drink the cheaper alternatives. Mostly Busch, PBR and Lone Star.
Tecate rules. Tecate with lime and salt rules harder.

I heard a story today and it reminded me of this experience...

I'm not sure how it was where you guys grew up but when I was a kid we hung around others from the neighborhood, not necessarily who you went to school with.

So when we were 14-15 and were allowed to move around more, we started hanging with buddies we played select soccer and stuff with that lived nearby. The great thing about this was now there was access to chicks from the other schools. I was striking out like Pete Weber with my school so I really welcomed this.

I'm still very good friends with a lot of these guys/gals to this day. There was however this one gal, "Susie". She was blond, large breasts, pretty smart and a slut. All things I really like. The best thing of all is her mom was a divorcee and rarely home. When she was home, she never cared if we partied there. Very good looking woman. Anyhow, Susie nailed most of my GB's. I got close once but she sobered up I guess and thought "WTF am I doing!!? Bob is kind of crazy!". I was even more of an idiot back then.

About twelve years later, a GB calls and says a bunch of the old crowd it getting together at a bar downtown. Oh yeah I'm in. I was surprised when Susie showed up though because I had heard she had a job in Colorado(?). She sits down next to me we talk and I'm feeling really good about myself with all of my economic success. That's when I feel a rumble in my belly. Oh no, I have to poop. I start weighing my option when a fart slips out. A really smelly fart. I panic. I looked like Ralphie "Flick, Flick who?". She then points her finger at me and somehow combines laughter with horror "IT'S BOB!!".

I've permanently erased the rest from my mind.

My BFF's wife's family is from Columbia, South America. She wanted to visit them over the holidays and he, always wanting to do something different, welcomed this. A little problem though in that he/they thought they were going for 9 days when she accidentally scheduled it for 14 days.

He called me about 2pm on Tuesday.

(Phone rings)

Me: Hey what's up.

BFF: I'm kidnapped, I need ransom money.

Me: LOL I thought you were home?

BFF: No, I'm stuck down here. Wife ####ed the flights up. I can't get out of here. Bob, please get me out of here! I can't take four more days.

Me: (I can now tell he's wasted)

BFF: SERIOUSLY! I CAN'T GET A FLIGHT. BOB, THEY DON'T HAVE BOURBON HERE. NO BOURBON BOB!! THE ONLY THING TO DRINK IS SCOTCH. SCOTCH! OH THERE'S PLENTY OF JOHNNY WALKER RED.

Me: So stay drunk the next four days and enjoy your self.

BFF: I can't. Do you have any idea how many family members she has? Hundreds of them. They all live in these little shacks too. Like 30 of them live in a 500 square foot place. BUT HEY!! THERE IS THE FOOD!! OH, THE FOOD!! HALF THE MEAL ARE THIS ####TY SOUP OR SOMETHING. Just broth mostly. Oh and if you want milk? DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU GET MILK FROM BOB?!!! A COW, BOB. A COW. You have to go milk the cow and boil the milk. I finally got a hotel room for a grand a night at a Hyatt for one night. Probably the nicest hotel I ever stayed at. Armed guards, drug sniffing dogs....I'm dying here. Are you in the office?

Me: Yeah.....

BFF: Oh, sorry, I'll let you go.

This is probably only funny to me but :lmao: :lmao:

Metrodome seat update:

The auction company my brother is working for got 2,000 seats, all the bar stools, freezers, fridges, luxury box seats, and about 50% of the field turf. He's gonna get me 4 chairs free I think, and I can buy pieces of the field turf, possibly a full number.

My wife won't be on board, so I gotta keep it on the down low.
"Honey, why is there a big number "40" in the living room? And when did we get a green carpet?"

Funny ish story. I go in mens room and two guys are talking prostrate. One guy looks me and says how bout you, you get the fingers up your ### yet? I said "by a doctor or for fun?" They laughed and then bought me a shot.

Hot young waitress seems confused I keep saying "KEEP ME COMING".Unrelated, Toto was under rated band.
They were laying down in the bathroom?

I like Toto.

For those of you so kind enough to give me your opinion with my ongoing legal issue with my former client, their counter offer doubled but it wasn't close to what I want or fair. Thankfully my lawyer and myself are on the same page and he just pushed all in if you will. (I can't remember if I posted the back story about my lawyer but he's in his 70's but still as sharp as hell.) They are going to make another offer. Hopefully this one will be a little more serious.
Don't underestimate old legal ####ers.

As the old saying goes, "Smart young lawyers know the rules; smart old lawyers know the exceptions."

As many of you know, I've got this very good friend in the neighborhood that is 25 years older than me and lost his wife to kidney cancer a year or so ago and we get really drunk together some nights and he cries about it. We did that tonight. The moral of the story is that you should hug your loved ones because you never know how things are going to turn out.

And we also talk about we fell in love with strong-willed women. So, K4, : :bye: :
Did you tell him that your strong-willed woman is in New Orleans, or has that come up yet?

Anyone needing a high-quality laugh:

Work

My blogging is going well, maybe too well. I am currently authoring 5 articles per week for two different blogs each.

One is about technology (right in my wheelhouse), the other about industrial chemistry (seriously).

Each post averages about 800 words, which basically means I am producing 4-5 typed pages of high quality, edited and source material every day of the week. It takes me about 1.5 hours per post.

The pay is excellent - I make 2x in a month what I used to make in an entire season as FBG staff, although I am writing a lot more.

They are asking me to consider writing a third blog.

The money is very interesting to me.

I could fit it in to my day, I'm sure.

The blog is for...

....wait for it...

a CPA and Personal Wealth Advisory Firm.

:bag:

We are through the looking glass people...
Those who can, do; those who can't, teach blog.

Yeah, so that Marky Mark SEAL movie is thinly-veiled propaganda. Neat stuff.

TPW's may be needed:

I'm in this promo/contest NBA Survivor thing where you have to pick a team each Friday - Sunday to win at least one game. You need to exhaust a lot of teams to get to the end and split the prize. Anyway, this week I have THE Sacramento Kings. Not ideal, but Deng-less Bulls don't seem trust-worthy and don't want to burn another safety valve/awesome team in OKC or Indy. Please give a shout-out to Jesu/Buddha/spaghetti monster/whatevs for me, TIA.

One of those mornings where you wake up and can't really tell if you're still a little drunk or are just a little cloudy

Could be interested in field turf or a bar stool.

Feeling like a huge jerk this morning. We have freezing rain and they didn't really treat the roads out here. The roads are extremely slippery, but since it's black ice and people can't see it, they're all driving like morons.

I was driving back home with my 4 year old after dropping my wife off at work and I saw a car in a ditch facing the wrong way on the other side of the road. An older couple was trying to get their stuff out of it. Just as I got to them, some idiot going too fast started sliding, went off the road in the exact same spot and plowed head on into the car in the ditch.

I really wanted to stop and try to help everyone because the older folks tryingto get stuff out of their car had to have been hurt pretty badly. But there wasn't really anywhere to pull over and I was terrified that the same thing would happen to my car with my 4 year old in it. Best I could do was call 911. But I feel like crap that I didn't stop and try to help. :(

So remember that when weather is bad, driving like an idiot puts more than just your own life at risk.

The guy he's working for paid like 500k for the job. He thinks he's gonna clear 1mil gross, mainly because he got ALL the concession stuff. Restaurant equipment is big money apparently.
Seems like a smart move selling all that stuff. I'm sure they won't be cooking anything in the new stadium.

Renting an RV to drive us and the four cats from Atlanta to Seattle: an idea I might not be able to resist.

Also, 'ninja, I meant to go back and reply to your post, but now it's pages ago. Not going to buy the house we had a contract on but am rethinking "buy v. rent" again. Before y'all think I'm ignoring good advice from HJS and others, I've spent a lot of time looking at apartment possibilities, and to get a decent 2BR in an area we want it will be $4000+ a month, plus parking plus huge fees/deposits for the cats. It's really hard to swallow that, and even if we did it's not exactly easy to find a place that allows four cats (every place I've seen that accepts pets at all has a two-pet limit).

We're going to head out again in a couple of weeks and look at apartments but also look at places to buy where I could just pay cash. Even if that's not financially the best strategy, not having a mortgage sounds very freeing and less stressful than a rent or mortgage payment. And if we decided to move, which I really don't think we will, we wouldn't be so stressed about selling the place since I wouldn't be under a mortgage.

Anyway, just a possibility.
They don't rent houses in Seattle?

I don't want to pile on, but I rented houses for several years in the late 90s/early 00s. Maybe that was a fad.

Feeling a little Bobbish here now. I was the 5th generation of Bentley to grow up in our little town. My dad and I shared the same high school ag teacher 27 years apart. He was a great guy who taught me to weld, field dress a boar ('cut them from the rooter to the tooter') and also taught us parliamentary procedure and dinner etiquette for some reason. He's in ICU tonight and not likely to make it.
Ah, I was using "apartments" as a generic for "rentals". We'd prefer to rent a house, but they're harder to come by out there where we want to be. And most house rentals seem to prohibit pets entirely.

Sorry about your teacher friend. :(
Stupid hippling

One of my favorite bars closed a few years ago, but it was a faux dive bar plopped down in the middle of an upscale party area. Among the slogans they occasionally featured on their website were, "The only place in Scotsdale where the leather's fake, but the boobs are real," and "A place where you can drink a bottle of Mad Dog out of a brown paper bag." Mind you, it wasn't "The kind of place..." For $10 (iirc) you could buy a bottle of 20/20 in a brown paper bag. I miss that place.

Good gravy, it's a black ice nightmare here in South Jersey. All bridges shut down, accidents everywhere, bridges closed, reports of a salt truck overturned and a fire truck that plowed into 4 other cars and ejected the driver.

At this point I'm sort of surprised Christie isn't personally opening every bridge in a desperate attempt to save any sort of shot at running for President
