GM's thread about nothing (37 Viewers)

There are large parts of my life that are a pointless bag of ####. I was supposed to have a free weekend but it didn't pan out, things never pan out. What do I do? Drink. That is all, no replies needed, no where else worth posting this.

Hey friend, I know you said no replies needed, but you are still a GB to me as I recall posting a bunch of pics for you way back when. Hang in there and post 'round here any time you'd like a respite.

:hey:
Hey friend. Makes me feel bad as I've thought a few times that I should send a message to see how you're doing as you haven't been around much. As usual, I fell down on the job and didn't get around to it. Hope you're well.
Not your fault, I've seen you fall before. *ha!* I switch/use/drop names like a hermit crab so even if you did message, I might miss it. Life is going well on this end. I hope you are doing well also.

Personal nonsense is what the thread is about. Seriously. I'm sure you'd find a lot of support here, or if that's not what you're looking for, plenty of mocking and shaming. ;)

Oh lordy jebus.

A semi-friend's band is playing at a dive bar exactly 1 mile from my place. I'm 68% shammered and bored. So tempted to clean myself up and hike down there. No real hanky-panky but bored as freak. It would probably take me 20 mins to walk there and listen to some pretty decent bar-band music and play some grab ### with trailertrash sloots. I should really be talked out of this.

ETA: said bar only accepts cash which I have none. Would have to make some sort of withdrawl along the way. God, I hate being cool.
I think you should go.
Yes, have some!

Well I think you might be one of the only people in this thread who follows my other work who might actually not just jump to ridicule. Happy to vent as I could use a venue but don't want to overrun the other regulars.Schlzm

Really, venting is welcomed. I do know your other work and couldn't be farther from you on the political spectrum, but that doesn't matter here. I know you're a good dude, and people would be happy to help or just listen.

Still been looking at cars. My son disapproves of all except the Audi R8 I showed him which is his choice. Sorry, bud. Chalk this one up as your first disappointment in your Dad category...

Anyway, among the contenders if I buy are

14 Mazda6 Grand Touring

14 Ford Fusion Hybrid Ti (unlikely)

14 Optima SX Limited Turbo

13 (but new) Infiniti G37x

13 (but new) Acura TL SH AWD

12 Audi A5 Quattro

Also listening to The Gourds cover of Gin and Juice which brings me back about 10 years to an absolutely wild night of naughtiness with a girl whose name I don't remember but who still brings a smile to my lips

Over halfway through a 12er of Stone Top-O-The-Line. Just rounded out one of the most pointless weeks of my life workwise, not to mention home built chaos that got me all built up just to knock me down, outside of my control of course<FIL is sick>. I have luck enough to keep me alive but everything else I have no choice but to build myself up and wait for the galaxy to knock me back in the dirt through some sort of galactic balancing keeping me in check. Decided to take a chance and throw my resume` out to what I thought would be some good matches, which taking any of these positions would take me out of my very secure and very cush situation, because my days are pointless ### and I thought I was more than a match. Haven't had even a courtesy "thanks for trying", thinking about other states at this point because I am worried that I might have somehow self poisoned. At the same time I am taking on an industry challenge in my field that is proving hard to follow through on due to all the above mentioned pressure. It's a bunch of ####### nonsense that I have no place to justify beyond myself buy it's heavy and I don't like it.Schlzm

The only one I have personal experience with is the G37. I hated it so much I traded it in after a few months. BUT that had entirely to do with the blind spots. As it's been a few years (mine was 2010) that might not be such a problem now. Positives were it was zippy and felt like a cocoon.

1. Family - Condolences. We've all been there and as we all advance in age will be there again. Condolences.

2. Work. Looking is never a bad thing. Maybe the most important thing I've learned in my career. If you've been in one place for a while, chances are your resume is still in an archetype that fits where you were when you started that job. Blow it up and start it over for where you are now. It's easy to fall into ruts with resumes that don't belie what you're bringing to the table.

3. Heavy. Heavy is as heavy as you let it.

2010 and 2013 are still the same engineering generation so they may have tweaked the blindspots but you don't undo fundamental flaws until you have a new engineering.

As you now know, smaller is better in Seattle so some of the first listed midsize sedans feel a bit big here. A big engine is great fun but if I'm honest, I'll never get a lot of chances in Seattle to open it up. Zippiness, handling and comfort in the cabin are most important for me right now.

The Mazda6 is a ridiculous value. Out of hand.

So I'm sitting outside in the garage with the father of the girl who lived with us for a year...and Mopsy's "Grampa" for those that remember. He poured himself a scotch, put on some jazz and lit a cigar. I cracked a PBR and lit a smoke...I have a long f'n way to being as cool as this 68 yr old man.

Job-wise, things are a bit squirrelly now, though maybe not so much in your field. By which I mean that common courtesies seem to have flown out the window, resumes are ignored with impunity, and connections (LinkedIn and the like) seem to mean so much more than qualifications. I say this as someone who hasn't looked for a job through normal means in a very long time, so maybe I'm wrong. IN terms of that, though, I say just keep throwing your resume in there. You might be surprised at jobs you get a nibble on. Also just work your connections like crazy. There are a lot of people around here who can give you much better job advice than I can, even start a thread if you wish to.

Look at the Subaru Impreza WRX. Seriously my favorite car ever--I had three of them in a row. Zippiness out the wazoo, great handling, semi-comfortable, easy to park and if you get the wagon style (no downgrade in zippiness) you can haul some #### around, too.

Yeah - super sports car-ry thought. Stiff suspension, heavy sports car steering, but low on the comfort side of things as well.

Yeah, I might have been reaching with "semi-comfortable". It is not appropriate as a family sedan or anything.

Yeah, the Mazda is getting a lot of attention and is new with all the new bells an whistles out there, but it's still not going to be an Audi. Test drive will tell.

That Optima is the one that scares me - it's loaded with a big L - from reviews the interior compares with every luxury sedan out there. Of course, the drivability won't compare to what the Yermans can do but I think I owe it a test drive.

You are a bad Canadian. One of the best tasting beers I have ever had in my life was when we landed in New Newfoundland coming back from Iraq. Ordered two Canadians and had my first smoke in quite some time. I still buy a 12er of Canadian from time to time because it tastes so sweet<also it's super cheap at the the class6>.Schlzm

13 (but new) Infiniti G37x

13 (but new) Acura TL SH AWD

12 Audi A5 Quattro
Is there anyone who's had the A5 Quattro who hasn't loved it? I mean this seriously, as I know several people with it and they just adore their cars.

The only one I have personal experience with is the G37. I hated it so much I traded it in after a few months. BUT that had entirely to do with the blind spots. As it's been a few years (mine was 2010) that might not be such a problem now. Positives were it was zippy and felt like a cocoon.

I really do think that Audi would be great. Don't know much about the Mazda but sounds like a good option.

I think it comes down to your driving conditions. If you spend at least 30+% of your drive time in inclement weather take the Audi.Schlzm

Still been looking at cars. My son disapproves of all except the Audi R8 I showed him which is his choice. Sorry, bud. Chalk this one up as your first disappointment in your Dad category...

Anyway, among the contenders if I buy are

14 Mazda6 Grand Touring

14 Ford Fusion Hybrid Ti (unlikely)

14 Optima SX Limited Turbo

13 (but new) Infiniti G37x

13 (but new) Acura TL SH AWD

Seattle actually experiences very little inclement weather as defined by driving. Wet roads is as bad as it gets.

I drove an Optima Turbo. Goes like stink. Might be too much power for front-wheel-drive. But the roofline is so low I had to bend myself into a question mark to get in and out of it.

If you'll be carrying the wife and kids with any regularity, the Mazda is quite a bit more practical. But if you want AWD and it's just you commuting most of the time, then treat yourself to the Audi.

Isn't it like 20 degrees in T.O.?
About 37F but Spring is close.
And PBR? What kind of Canadian are you? Where's the Molson or at least a Sleeman?
I'm a bad Canadian. I don't like Molson (I do like Labatt) and I cheer for an American hockey team and baseball team.
Thank you for your service but it's your own damned fault for thinking Newfoundland is actually part of Canada. Newfoundland is like your Nebraska, we just let them do their thing but no one really cares.

That would have been the hair.

I carry the fam sometimes, but it's the alternate choice. Most of the time it's just me and the car. AWD is also not really necessary in Seattle.

You're lucky. I live in the land of 300+ days of blue skies but when anything outside of that happens it's panic. Not to mention the specific area where I live is commonly subject to foot plus snow. Life is a damn zoo, we've had weeks of 50+ temps but now there is a half inch on my porch.Schlzm

Where are you? Colorado was almost the opposite in reaction. 300 days of sunshine but people generally handled the snow beautifully.

You are more than welcome but your crazy canukistani customs are non` of my concern. All I know is the beer was like heaven and the smoke was a little overwhelming.Schlzm

We're always here if you need a hat.

Side note: Miss and the estrogen crowd came outside and we're now dancing to Depeche Mode on the driveway/street...You're own...personal Jesus...

Let's just say Denver might be "higher" than me on a map but lower in elevation.Schlzm

Perhaps some of Denver's customs might suit your current stress levels. As a former, then once again and future partaker, there's a place for everybody.

Unfortunately both of my current professions disallow such entertainment, however the wild and fortunate North is not outside of my scope.Schlzm
