GM's thread about nothing (22 Viewers)

Woke up Saturday morning before 6am to prepare for a 24 hour beach soccer charity event that started at noon. Due to thunderstorms at 3am-ish, it went until 1pm Sunday afternoon. Kicking balls for boobs!!! I was caked in sand and exhausted when it was done. Stayed up Sunday afternoon for the Soundgarden/NIN show that night. We were hammered by storms throughout the concert. Seeing NIN in the rain with lightning striking in the distance was absolutely perfect. Miss and I were grinding to Closer like a pair of teenagers but we didn't care. Trent Reznor makes music for all our sins. After the show, we looked like a pair of homeless puppies waiting for the train. We were drenched and cold.

I was awake for 44-ish straight hours for the first time in years...with nothing to help...and it was one of the greatest weekends of my life.

Today sucked balls.
I "liked" this and then unliked due to the last sentence, which I had missed. Gave that like to BF's funny Babe post instead. Anyway, that first bit was great (even though I can't stand NiN).

Full Sail's Session Lager is priced well, but it's not a very good beer, IMO.
Don't let Mr. krista hear you type that!

I've read back a bit and I get what furley is saying. Not to take sides (because furley has always been a total **** to me) but a lot of you do act like elitists around here.

A lot of you do suck Krista's **** like she's a queen. There's a certain few of you around here that circle the wagons if something bad is said about the group.

I like Krista. She's good people and she's a great person from everything I know of her on a personal level. I don't see it as anything Krista does or says per se but if anyone steps up to her, a lot of you do the fighting for her which kind of sucks because she's really good at putting people in their place herself.
Not that it matters ad I tend to agree with you here, but I only said what I said to Furley because he compared me to Tim. I was just minding my own business.

But I would and probably do defend K4 but that's because she's my friend.

Why is circling the wagons for your friends so bad? The people I've met from here in real life are some of the nicest, most genuine people I know. So I give the people they vouch for that I've never met the benefit of the doubt as well. We disagree about things And handle it like adults instead of like 8th grade girls. What's wrong with being protective of your friends ?

Sure, and that's great but it looks like you see Krista as a little sister who needs to be defended. Trust me, she can sling it without help.

furley will be along shortly to question why Abe gets a free pass around here.
He doesn't get a permanent free pass. He gets a free day pass every morning.
I take plenty of crap and I'm a good sport about it.
You do. And you're not afraid to put yourself out there. You've done some really great things and some really stupid ones but you've got balls and I sincerely admire that about you. I mean, I just love your balls. Also, you have courage, and I dig that, too.

People around here view Krista as a girl. Yes, she is very much a girl but she doesn't need everyone to help her when a guy like furley pops off. She is more than capable of embarrassing him herself without all the guys making her sound soft.

I just realized that tonight is the first time in ages that haven't had a drink. Might need to change that to keep the streak alive :banned:

Fair.

Update tomorrow, I promise. I'm trying to get another job application out by midnight tonight.

Until then, have you been monitoring the "need help with a book thread?" Tim is killing me. That guy is the ultimate straight man. I love this one.

Needed alcohol to have sex with the fat girl.
That could go either way. Are you suggesting gay or well sighted?
To a gay man, a fat girl shouldn't be more or less attractive than a skinny girl.

Is it possible that Tim and Imp are the same person, and he has been pulling some insane meta schtick over the last 4 years?

Things are going really well with the girl.

We already have little trips planned for August, September and October in addition to a music festival towards the end of September and a Bengals game in mid-October

Oh, and there is talk of me meeting her mom at some point in the next month or so...

I see your point and agree to some degree . She certainly doesn't need anyone's help.

May have to defer to hipster Stu. I probably only know a little over a dozen or so of those bands. :bag: I'm guessing Afghan Whigs are considered the main headliner? I've seen them a couple times and always enjoyed it.

Imp recommended July Talk during a poker game or something earlier this year and I really dug them. I bet they put on a really fun live show. Seeing them with Rural Alberta Advantage this fall which should be awesome.

While I'm asking for help, i need a good reco for a book to read and I don't feel like sifting through the book thread.

Right now I am considering:

Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore

The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P

Replay

Infinite Jest

Thoughts?

Yeah, they like to do a local band gone big time as the headliner. Last year was the Breeders, this year Afghan Whigs

The thing is this - if someone did a K4 send up with part humor part passive agressive ribbing, pointing out the same observations that Furkey did, she would have laughed, others would have piled on, she probably would have sheepishly agreed etc... that's how this thread points things out. How Furley did it was direct and quite frankly smelled of jealousy.

I lurked here for a couple years before posting. I'm a newbie, never met the core here IRL (except Ignoramus who was a wonderful date ). But I did silently observe the dynamics in here.

There is an 'in crowd'. It seems if you just merge in here nicely, contribute, share etc you get de facto accepted. If you jump in with schtick, or try to dominate or piss all over it, the wagons get circled. There is a slight level of intimidation thinking of joining the fun I guess, especially if you have a well worn persona in the FFA at large.

I would humbly suggest that more of the regulars in here venture into the mainstream threads a bit more. A lot of you are exceptionally good reads.

The issue with the mainstream FFA is there are so many terrible threads. "Loud" posters that just spam threads with dreck.

I'm sure there are some good ones I'm missing out on by mainly hanging out in here, but it's not worth the risk of wasting time getting into a thread that gets derailed a couple posts or pages in with terribleness

I venture out a lot, and I never really feel good about it.
