Our Parent Teacher Club is providing box lunches for us (Jersey Mike's) today. The catch is that they want to "brainstorm" with us on how to boost membership/participation. I guess the membership drive they had back in September was a huge failure. They only reached about 25% of their expected goal.

I want the free lunch but I don't want to have to pretend to care about hte PTC.

That is crazy! I am on the look out for that in a few spots when I bike home from work, but by and large it's safe here and wide open for bikers.

Didn't watch the full video, but the first one seemed like he was going pretty fast with a lot of dooring risk looming ahead of him. I'd be afraid to go fast in that city....not that I'm Lance Amrstrong when I do pedal or anything. Defensive biking would be a must in Gotham.

I've been doored three times... and now in my old age witht that experience, I ride very defensively.

I was similar to the guy in the video, riding in a bike lane past stopped traffic. when a taxi meter turns off there are lights that flash on the top of the taxi- which means somebody is paying or about to get out- I slow to a crawl, expecting the door to open towards the sidewalk, or I ride on the street side of the taxi where they're not supposed to open the door.

I always look for those flashing lights on the top of taxis (and for pedestrians popping through the bike lane). Today, some old dude decided to open the door of his taxi before even telling his driver to stop or turn off the meter- whammo. fortunately, since there is residual snow I was riding even more slowly than normal and didn't really get *hit* (which is what happened previously, sending me to the emergency room) but just got knocked over.

I have a boo-boo on my hand :( and my clothes got dirty ... but my scarf stayed immaculate.
