Goalline Offense (1 Viewer)

How often do runs up the gut on short yardage work from the goalline formation work? Spread them out and create running lanes and numerous options. The 3 TE sets are simply too limiting.

It works when you need a yard for 2 reasons. The first is that you believe your big guys can push their big guys back enough to get 1 yard. The 2nd is that you can sneak a TE in the flat through all of that mess pretty easy with a good playaction.

It's the other way around. At the one-yard line, defenses are going to be crowding as close to the ball as possible. Going to a four-wide set doesn't mean the defense will respond by putting in a dime package or spreading out the defense proportionately. It's because defenses are going to bunch up in tight on the goal line that offenses need to respond by putting as many blockers in there as possible.

I suggest you watch how often the Packers have failed trying that.

So the defense will leave WRs open? A 3WR/1TE/1RB package in the huddle will not be responded to with the goalline D.And I'm not just talking at the goalline. 4th and 1 at midfield is no time for 2Rb/0wr/3te.

NO. The D can still cover all of the WRs and still have a 7 on 5 advantage at the line of scrimmage.

I don't think they have much of an option. Their OL is not very good.
