Going Back To Cali - LL Cool J - Lynchian Noir (1 Viewer)

The music video for "Going Back to Cali" was directed by Ric Menello. It was shot in black and white and was filmed mostly at two Los Angeles landmarks, the Venice neighborhood and the Griffith Observatory, as an homage to two of Menello's favorite films, Touch of Evil (1958) and Rebel Without a Cause (1955), respectively.[1]

Skimming the topic I thought it said Choir.

I was looking forward to strings and horns.

Never heard this. Awesome

Colin Quinn, doing his Going back to Brooklyn cover:

'She gave me a pear, started spraying her hair....and showed me a picture.....of Richie Sambora'

:lmao:
That’s awesome. I’d like to see him do an updated version.

I'm going back to Brooklyn, shaking 'em, baking 'em
Takin 'em to spots they can never afford
They have artisan kale, a truffle-infused snail
And their beards are trimmed to perfection

2018 was an angry year, my friends.

great video, great song.
I was re-reading the "Topics You've Started" section of my profile to find this.

2015-2019 brought us interesting tidings from a guy named "rockaction" here. Hoo boy.

I never thought of this as a standalone song.

I always thought it was such a cool different thing he was doing. Doesn't sound like any other hip hop song. I give points for this.
I think the song is too long, but has a great idea behind it. Maybe in execution it comes up a little short for its length. But I enjoy the blank verse element of it. It has meter, but not necessarily a completed or constant rhyme.

Her bikini? Small
Heels? Tall
She said. She liked. The ocean.

Not LL's best song, but real reason this hit big when it came out was the video.

LL in his drop-down, sportin' a Kangol, girls dancing in bikinis, a NYC guy rollin' thru Cali...

...like you wish you could.

No doubt. The video is a masterpiece in wish fulfillment and cool.
