#### going down in our neighborhood - about to go MOP on someone (1 Viewer)

Literally.

Live in a nice, borderline FBG worthy neighborhood in So Cal. Been here 15 years, love it. Seeing a lot of turnover as older folks that held on to their homes during the housing crisis now being able to sell and downsize. So we take our beloved 110lb 18 month old chocolate lab for at least 2 walks a day. This dog is a machine, and it's not uncommon for him to take 2 to 3 healthy steamers on his morning walk. Of course I pick it up immediately and sometimes am toting multiple bags back to the house, which I dispose of in our dumpster. The rest of the neighborhood did the same, always clean.

Things have changed. First started seeing bags of waste by the sidewalk. WTF? pick it up but leave it? Is this some new biodegradable compost conspiracy theory or something? Now we are seeing dog #### everywhere. On the sidewalk. Smaller dogs. Obviously from more than one. I haven't caught anybody in the act yet, but it's driving me insane. If you own a dog, and live where other people live, keep it on a leash and pick up after it. Common sense and decency. What's my next step? Post signs throughout the neighborhood calling people out? Go in PI mode? Collect it all and then when I find out which homeowner it is leave the pile on his doormat. Better ideas?

How about stop being such an uptight jerkwad?

Is this how you envisioned yourself turning out as a kid? Complaining about people not picking up their dog poop on an internet message board?

You don't see anything wrong with people's dogs ####ting all over the neighborhood and their owners not cleaning it up?

You'll have to define "all over". I've been in parks covered in goose poop, farms covered in cow poop & played in back yards with dog poop. Some how I survived.

Aren't those kind of expected and uncontrollable?

A farm with cow poop should be expected. We'll also accept points for chicken, goose, duck, horse, or lamb

A park with goose poop? Yep, I would and should expect that

Your OWN house with your OWN dog's feces? You don't have to clean it up since it is your own yard

Someone else walking their dog and not cleaning up after said dog after it takes a dump on a city sidewalk? Not acceptable. Where I live it is a city ordinance to clean up after your dog.

It is a suburban subdivision, not a city sidewalk. What like 10-20 people use that sidewalk in a day depending on location in the neighborhood? Big. Freaking. Deal.Call your HOA and complain, Nancy.

I want to do better than "survive", man!

Well there is a "cultural" difference in my neighborhood that is the cause of the free ####ting. One group of peopl does as described above. Walks on a leash. Picks up with bags when the dog does his business. Another group of people see no need for leashes and merely let the dog out like its a cat to roam wherever it pleases. There's at least 3 dogs in my neighborhood that wander around anywhere they want and #### anywhere they want. Early on I was unaccustomed to this and brought the dog back to one of my neighbors. I said in a pleasant manner your dog was out I brought him back. They looked at me like I had 3 heads.

So I'd wager you're having a similar issue with this new "group."

I would do all of your suggestions. Post signs. Play PI. And most importantly, start collecting the poop.

If the culprit is identified and the behavior hasn't stopped after the request, then you need to retaliate. There is a recipe thread on this site for the greatest chili ever. You may have seen it. Fire up a batch but be sure to include your poop collection. Not so much that it's obvious it's #### chili, but just enough so that the chili consumer notices a hint of something he just can't place. Something he can't quite put his finger on.

Once he's finished and thanks you for the wonderful chili, get a bag and give him a doggie bag to take home. But, make sure he sees you reach into the pot with the bag as if picking up a pile of #### and say "see, this wasn't hard at all" and give him a wink.

He should get it by now, but if not, start dumping the chili on his front doorstep each day. He'll learn.

Or just ask EG72.

As far as dogs running around loose, one of my neighbors has the solution: Shoot the dog.

No joke. A dog running around loose came up to his chain fence to sniff at his two dogs, and the neighbor came out with his .38 and shot the dog on the spot.

Great neighborhood you live in there. Sure hope that guy's dog never gets out of his yard.

Very uncool to not clean up after your dog...

I've come to realize that poor people just can't have nice things.

Look at the retail establishments in poorer neighborhoods. #### everywhere. On the floor in aisles. Dirty. Go to nice neighborhoods and everything is in it's place and spotless. Poor subdivisions? Lawns unkempt and weedy, old #### scattered around the lawn, etc. Nice neighborhoods with nice lawns, tidy lack of clutter. You can say it's because of money, but how muck does it cost to mow your lawn, pull some weeds, and throw away that rusted tricycle with a missing wheel that's been sitting out next to your sidewalk since the Bush administration? None. No excuse.

It comes down to taking pride in your home and neighborhood, and having a little self respect. Some people have it. Some people don't.

It is, except for that guy. I live in the country, and it's pretty peaceful and the neighbors are nice.

The funny thing is, the two dogs he owns are little yip-yap dogs, and he has them outside multiple hours every day. These dogs will bark at anything that moves. Very annoying.

Odd. The OP pointed out up front that he lives in a nice neighborhood and you rant against the poor?

Honestly. Not to sidetrack the thread but I think you are about as big of a doosh as I've seen on here towards poor people. You're en elitist who disdains people lower than you on the socio-economic ladder. So yeah, I disagree with your post.

where i used to live, there was an old dude who used to walk his dog around multiple times daily. he'd let the dog crap anywhere and everywhere and never pick it up. all of my neighbors that were aware of him were very irritated by it. once, i caught him letting his dog go on my lawn, in the public right-of-way between the sidewalk and the street. i ran up to him and asked him why he didn't pick it up. he said that the space is "city property" and that he didn't have to pick it up.

I had two dogs at the time. i saved up two weeks of crap from the dogs and kept it in a small bucket. when i saw him home, i drove over, got his attention & emptied the dog crap in a similar spot in front of his house. I said "city property" and drove away.

He didn't say the neighborhood has turned poor, he said there has been a turnover of older folks moving out due to downsizing. There are plenty of people who have money, but lack decency. Perhaps this generation moving in lacks respect for their neighbors. My sister lives in a nice neighborhood, but her neighbors who live two doors down let their little dog #### all over the grass in the cul-de-sac, and neighborhood kids play in that area. There are even walking trails with free poop bags to pull out of the dispensers, and these people still don't use them.

Could be worse, in the parking garage I use for work in the city someone took a giant #### in one of the spaces. It is up on the second floor of the garage and while it could be a dog's, I'm leaning more towards a human. Not sure what drives a person to take a dump in a garage but this one has three levels and is open aired. It has been in the low teens this week in Providence so they must have really had to go to grunt one out in this weather. No visable sign up using anything to wipe which must have been problematic for the ####ter.

He said the neighborhood is changing. Do you dispute anything I've said?

I disdain people who have no respect for being properly functioning members of society. This includes doing your part to keep surroundings up to standard. There are exceptions to the rule but the bottom line is, the clean, well-kept lower income neighborhood is the exception to the rule, and the poorly maintained, cluttered upper income neighborhood is the exception to the rule.

It's a side note but I see what the OP is experiencing frequently here in Memphis and it's frustrating. It seems the general rule of thumb is once you get about 1/4 to 1/3 of the neighborhood comprised by folks that don't care about their property/community, it's a lost cause and goes downhill relatively quickly from there.

You should just shoot them. Best way to silence anyone, or anything.

Odd admission: I did this once. I was really drunk (surprise) and thought it'd be hilarious to read the employees complaining about it on the internet.

Ok I made up the last part, but I really did do this in college.

I really cant imagine following a large animal around every day and waiting for it to take a big smelly dump and then scooping it into a bag and carrying it around. The whole thing is just bizarre.

1/2 shtick, 1/2 serious that this is a pretty weak thing to complain about.

At least its outside. I wouldn't do it and I wouldn't like it, but I don't consider it the outrage that some of you do.

Used to have a neighbor who would let their dogs out to do its business and often they would find their way into my yard to take care of things. That was actually in my back yard where I mowed and my kids played regularly. I never really was upset about it because that is what dogs do and that is where they do it. Outside is dirty and messy and its why we wear shoes. The rain cleans it all up in a short while anyway.

I'm just not as appalled by it as some of you are, I guess.

Because he pointed out a few short comings of poor area's? This is a very general statement but i don't see anything untrue here.

We had to put up several of those dog waste station things with a bag dispenser and a trash can.

http://www.dogwastedepot.com/DOG-WASTE-STATION-w-ONEPulreg-Bag-SYSTEM-Prodview.html

Not sure it's really made much of a difference. Anybody that wasn't picking up before wasn't neglecting because of a lack of access to a ####ty plastic bag.

I'm a Jaws scoop man myself. Not a fan of grabbing my dog's massive dumps with a plastic bag.

And it's almost certainly the little dog owners that are the culprit. Many of them seem to think that just because the dumps aren't that big, that it's not a big deal for others to step in.

Yeah, you probably park your car on your lawn, leave your McDonalds bag in the street, etc. I'd hate having the likes of you has a neighbor. And yes, if you're in a nice community having dog #### smeared all over the sidewalk every 15 feet is not the expectation.

Bit different. Really every home in the development is exceptionally well maintained (at least on the exterior). No issue there. This is just pure laziness and being insensitive. Guarantee these people would care a lot if other dogs #### on their lawns or sidewalk, but figure someone else can clean up after their poodle's ####. They just need a little education and attitude adjustment. I'll figure out a way to make it happen and report back.

Some people are not appalled by inviting neighbors into their homes with stacks of dirty clothes everywhere and a pile of 5 day old foul dishes in the sink either. I'm amazed that those people aren't appalled and how they live. I can control that - I just won't go back into their filthy home. Just don't destroy my quality of life or property values.

looks like we found the guy who lets his dog #### on other peoples lawns without cleaning it up
