Going to a Haunted House - Eastern State or Pennhurst (1 Viewer)

SUPER ELITE UPPER TIER
I was of a fan of these things when I was younger, but haven't been to one in probably 20 years. I'm not really afraid of these things, I just hate people jumping out at me.

Well, my brother and his wife are coming to town next month and they want to go to either Eastern State Penitentiary or Pennhurst Asylum. Both are supposed to be pretty crazy. Wondering if anyone has ever been to either of these. What was your experience?

For the record, I plan to either piss myself, crap myself or have a heart attack. Maybe all three. Although if I do the first two, I hope I have the heart attack too so I can have a better excuse.

I feel horrible because my GF is terrified of these things, but my brother talked her in to going. She has been worrying about it ever since we agreed to go about a week ago.

A couple of years ago I was at Kings Dominion and they have a Hallowscream typecthingvthat begins at 7PM. I was with my two young daughters who were 6 & 8 at the time. If anybody is familiar with these events then you know these employees do a pretty good job of sneaking up on you or staring you down and generally just being really creepy.

Well they let the kids dressed in their really well done scary costumes and makeup out a little early.....

One kid came up and got into my youngest daughters face and scared her... I immediately grabbed and told the kid/ guy/whoever and calmly told him how I would end his life right then and there if he didn't GTFO immediately.

Looking back I should have complained to management about letting out the hounds early while young kids were still in the park. I also saw them harrassing a REALLY old lady who was visibly shaken by the experience.

So, you haven't been to either one, then.

Wait, wut was the question?

:bag: No, I guess I just wanted to share.

Went to Pennhurst the first year and it was quite bad. Didn't go back last year so no idea if there have been any improvements. Love ESP and much better food and drink around for afterwards.

I see that Eastern State this year has a thing that before you start, you choose whether you want to be "marked" or not. Here's the description:

When you enter Terror Behind the Walls, you will be confronted with a critical decision: should you explore the prison and watch the action, or should you mark yourself to truly interact with the denizens of the cellblocks? Those who opt in for true interactivity may be grabbed, held back, sent into hidden passageways, removed from their group, and even occasionally incorporated into the show. They will deal with the consequences of their decision through six long attractions.
I can assure you I would not do that. Not a chance in hell.

That's cool. Nothing wrong with sharing.

So you've been to both? I've heard people rave about both.

We live less than a mile from Pennhurst, so the proximity is nice. I always hate driving into Philly.

I hit almost all of the major haunted houses in lancaster, reading, philly area. I was least impressed with Pennhurst. Now it may have improved since the last time we went but everyone I was with thought it sucked.

Of all of them, which is your favorite?

Eastern State is great.

There's a parking lot right across the street that always has spots and is relatively good on pricing.

And if you like Middle Eastern food...Zorba's is right across the street. Best gyro I've ever had (try the kopanista as an appetizer if you like feta cheese...out of this world)

My GF's brother and his wife live right next to the place. They talk about how this time of the year, all they hear is screaming from there. Not exactly sure their location, but if I remember correctly, you can see the wall to the prison if you look down there street.

From Reading East I would go in this order:

Bates Motel - ESP - Shocktoberfest

If you dont mind going around Lancaster check out Jasons Woods or Field of Screams.

Also if you can afford it get the passes that allow you to skip the lines. Its worth every penny.

Not a chance. I joked around and said we got her a ticket and she almost starting crying. To be fair, I had the same reaction when my brother said he was getting me tickets.

Interesting. So ESP not the best?

I'm pretty sure we're doing the skip the line thing. The longer I have to wait, the better chance there is for me to chicken out.

go to one of those religious ones where they show people going to hell for having abortions, being gay married, or doing drugs.

Just don't get possessed. Zach always gets possessed and makes a fool of himself.

ESP is very good and I believe will now be great with the "marking".
