Passed over in many leagues for the young up and comers. Gonzo deserves some love. With his QB situation and trade request/denial he kept his stellar approach to the game intact.

My team's MVP the Hall Of Famer slipped to where I drafted him behind Cooley.

Whats next?

Gonzo was money this year, with only one poor outing after the Week 6 bye (Wk 11 - 39 yds). He still looks good to me. Depends on if Thigpen holds onto the starting job next year, or pulls a Derek Anderson. If KC continues to run the same offense next season, and Thigpen stays consistent, no reason Gonzo couldn't have a similar type season next year.

I am debating selling Gonzo high in my dynasty, and rolling with Zach Miller next year. It's nice just being able to plug him in every week though, and not worrying about the TE position.

Stud.

Always underrated.

I disagree with Skipdog on one thing. Gonzo's production does not rely on Thigpen. The guy produces every single year, regardless of which crap or good QB is throwing to him.

Best TE ever to play the game; it's great to see him bury all of Sharpe's records.Gonzo has been consistently underrated in fantasy circles for years now. He has been in the top 3 in fantasy scoring at his position 9 out of the last 10 years, and he was still #7 in the other year. He's delivered more than 50 VBD points in 8 of those years; more than 75 in five of them. This year he has more VBD points than Andre Johnson, Steve Slaton, Calvin Johnson or Clinton Portis, to name a few, and he's delivered that level of fantasy production, or better, five times in 10 years. There's only one other player in the league who comes close to Gonzo's level of fantasy production and consistency, and that's Peyton Manning, who is regularly chosen more than a full round before Gonzo is.I wouldn't expect 75 VBD points next year; he is getting older. But it seems reasonable to assume that Gonzo will still be a top-3 TE next year if he stays in KC.

I had him in two of three leagues this year. He helped me win the championship in one league and in the other someone dropped him after the first few weeks of the season. I promptly picked him up and then traded him for DeAngelo Williams around week 9. I'm in the Championship game this week in that league as well.

Tony's definetly still got it!

I agree that Gonzo is always underrated, and that people overestimate the impact of his age, QB situation, etc. But my comment on Thigpen was based on the looking at Gonzo's numbers during the first part of the season (during the Huard/Croyle/Thigpen merry-go-round), and when Thigpen took the reins over for good in Week 8. Through the first 5 weeks of the season, Gonzo topped 50 yds just once, in Wk 1, with a low of 17 yds in Week 5. Week 7 brought 97 yds with all 3 QBs playing, and then when Thigpen took over in Week 8, it was lights out the rest of the way, with 7 of his 9 TD's coming in that span (Wk 8-16). Gonzo didn't have less than 5 receptions each week that Thigpen was at the helm, and topped 10 rec twice. Not saying that Gonzo's 2009 performance will be solely based on his QB, but Thigpen obiviously leaned on him alot this year, and Gonzo benefitted huge from it. He's still the best TE in the game to me, but the trainwreck that is KC could have a significant impact on him next year, especially if the coaching staff gets wiped clean and a new scheme is installed.

 Cheers to Gonzo!!! He was fantastic this year, especially considering his adp. He was really the ONLY reliable tight end this year. He played them all and was consistently a big part of the game. 15 points / week like clockwork.

As an aside, the young QB in KC quietly had a great season.
