The Wall Street Journal reports that China has adopted a new regulation that makes it illegal for people to publicly disseminate their own predictions of anything from temperature and wind speed to solar activity and geomagnetic storms. The regulation states that only the official meteorological organization — the China Meteorological Organization — is allowed to distribute forecasts. If you’re caught playing meteorologist, you could be fined up to 50,000 yuan, which is approximately $8,000.
