We had to put down the family dog last night. I honestly didn't think it would be this hard. But walking into the house this morning was :cry:

Goodbye old friend, it was a good 13 years. See you on the other side someday, Bosko.

 
Had to put down a 19 year old cat this fall. Tough. Helped to have two more little kittens, so we didn't have an empty house!

Our vet was cool, they did everything, left us in the room and allowed us to leave when we were ready. They sent us the bill at home, since that was about the last thing you wanted to do that day.

Hope all gets better!

 
Thanks, all. He was a little guy, Cairn terrier. We've gone 25 years with a dog, so it's going to be a while before we get used to this.

 
Sorry for your loss, I've been there myself. Take comfort knowing that you gave him a fantastic life and you did the right thing for him in the end.

 
Sorry for your loss. I lost my best bud "Bear" last year. Not ashamed to admit there were a few days of tears over that dude. Still will always be one of the best dogs ever. I have a new buddy, "Roscoe" now. He can't take the place of Bear, but he is now a new member of the family. It's always hard because dogs are one of the most selfless partners we can ever have. They would gladly give up their own life to save you. There are some days I get frustrated and say, "I can't wait until I don't have any more dogs here!".. But the reality is that I would definitely save my dog over the stranger. Because I know they would do the same for me. :(

 
Never easy. A female friend of ours lost her "old man" Friday morning. Sorry for your loss. I'll give mine a little added treat today in honor of Bosko and Brown.

 
RIP. be thankful you gave Bosko a warm bed, good food, and lots of people love.. he is a lucky dog.. my condolences

Maybe Bosko and my good pal Buckeye will play together over the Rainbow Bridge

*sniff* I still miss that beautiful dog 5 years later.
