What about Hoody for the past decade?

NEW YORK -- The NFL fined the Washington Redskins and Buffalo Bills $20,000 each Friday for violating league procedures on reporting injuries.

The injuries involved Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III and Bills defensive end Mario Williams.

Washington was fined for not properly updating media on Griffin's status during an Oct. 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons after he left with a head injury that turned out to be a mild concussion. The team said during the game that Griffin was "shaken up."

"In reviewing the matter, the appropriate medical care for Griffin was never in question," the NFL said in a statement Friday. "The Redskins' medical staff acted appropriately and with great care for Griffin's well-being.

Griffin was hit legally at the end of a run when he didn't slide, and the Redskins said his return was questionable. There was no further update on his injury or playing status during the game, but afterward the Redskins confirmed that Griffin sustained a concussion. The team's medical staff said it informed coach Mike Shanahan during the game that Griffin was being taken to the locker room to be evaluated.

Shanahan has said he inadvertently characterized after the game what the trainers had told him during the game with his "shaken up" comment and that he wasn't informed Griffin had a concussion until after the game.

Redskins athletic trainer Larry Hess said the team's medical staff confirmed a diagnosis of concussion with "two to three minutes" left in the game. At that point, the Redskins should have updated Griffin's status for the media, changing it from questionable to out with a concussion.

"Clubs are required to provide accurate and timely injury information during games," the NFL said in its statement.

The Bills failed to list Williams on the injury report while he was being treated for a sprained left wrist. Williams said Oct. 3 that the wrist had been bothering him and limiting his effectiveness. The league said Williams should have been on the injury report during that time; he has been on it the last two weeks.

Is this serious? Updates DURING games. Are teams supposed to have a person who gives updates to sideline reporters? Does the league pay somebody take calls on in game injuries?

All these tears. How about if you wanna be shady, use the proper terminology... Fines AVOIDED.
You wanna argue terminology after the game is over or during the week is alright with me. But forcing coaches and teams to give updates on Injured players while they're trying to win a game with the healthy players they have seems excessive.

I don't like it but it's the rules. Most coaches abide by it. It is a beneficial tool.

It's all a ploy by the NFL/Owners who Goodell works for to try and build a stronger case about how much they care about players safety. Bottom line is, it's to late, These antics will not save the NFL/owners in court with the 1,000's of lawsuits against them by the players. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what they (NFL/Owners) are trying to do.

I didn't say it was good, or even okay. In fact, I think injury reports are dumb. But guidelines exist, the Pats have been penalized before (setting a precedent) and now Bill makes sure no matter what to follow it regardless of how petty people think it is. So, if a team wants to avoid fines and penalties, either release a legitimate injury report or do what the Pats do and if a player is limited for ANY reason, say he is questionable. If you are gonna say a player is questionable and then he practices in full every practice, the NFL is gonna have something to say to you.

So your team lies on the injury report weekly, every team and fan realizes it, and you're fine with it. Then a team makes a mistake, the leagues come down on them, and you're posting "all these tears". Got it.

Whats the problem exactly? If everyone knows it then it defeats the purpose you think it serves.

He said, in a thread complaining about two teams getting punished for breaking rules, but a team that didn't, didn't.This is the third thread this week complaining about NE injury reports. To reiterate, cry some more.

I'll have to take this with a grain of salt coming from a coors light drinker.

There is a dozen changes that ultimately have this in mind, but they are rules and most teams abide by them. If it isn't uniform then it's the NFL's job to make it uniform.

I like the NHL injury reports.

The press asks the coach "How is Joe blow" Coach "Lower body injury" next question?

Lets be real...the injury reports have nothing to do with the teams or the injuries. It is for the gamblers.

The Bills failed to list Williams on the injury report while he was being treated for a sprained left wrist. Williams said Oct. 3 that the wrist had been bothering him and limiting his effectiveness. I don't get this one. If you know you playing, 100%, why would you be on the injury report. A status of probable is supposed to mean a 75% chance of playing.

Oh, c'mon. They were pony cans! So seemingly moderate in their 8 oz. glory. Not so tasty. Not so moderate. I knew I'd get crap for posting that. Run It Up might be the biggest, most outrageous homer on this board. This is not hostile, but if you want to hear unfiltered and unfettered Patriots jingoism, you can't do any better. The guys here in No. CT -- where even a vacant, wooden barstool will turn to you and start saying something about Tom Brady -- aren't even this bad. By the way...Spygate. Haven't won a Super Bowl since.

I think that title belongs to Scientist not that it means anything, unless you just have a blind hatred for homers. If you want information about NE, wait for yudkin, hes the best source on the board.

If you wanna cry about stuff that isn't an issue and is beyond petty, prepare to be labeled as such.

Also, im sure whichever team you like has won less games in the past 15 years than the pats have in the past 10, scoreboard. But im sure you can account for at least half of those wins because of injury report management.

I don't even care about the injury report, which is kind of funny. It probably is a blind dislike for total homerism. Anybody who names himself after the odiousness of Belichick's tactics post-Spygate is just...well...a homer. And I'm a Giant, Jet, and Raider fan, so no, there's no way the Patriots have got anything on the Giants, nor the Jets in the past five years, really.

Oh yeah, 18-1. :P

Did you seriously edit my post to delete the Giants part of it? Oh man, you're gorgeous. Giants - 4 SBs

Pats - 3 SBs

* And no, watching the Jets deliver at least one yearly spanking of the Pats and making 2 AFC Championships while currently residing in first place with that circus is not tough. The Jets are...interesting and maddening.

I dont have anything against the Giants, im actually a Pats/Bears/Niners/Giants fan... I was just pointing out that the Jets are and have been a joke for years - the Giants obviously haven't...

I don't see the Jets as a joke, actually. I never saw Rex as anything other than a brilliant defensive guy. Today's buttoned-down NFL just wasn't made for him, and the media hype helps make a circus out of a team that isn't a joke at all. Ask Belichick and Brady what they thought of the circus/joke two years ago when they got thumped in the playoffs. Sanchez's quarterback play probably kept them from two titles.

As a coach hes a genius. But the organization is a joke, Sanchez is not an NFL QB (neither is Tebow) and Rex has spent the past 3.5 years coddling him and he has shown no improvement at all.Sorry for the terrible thread hijack.

Good point Guru. IMO what is being criticized as different standards here is more a natural progression. Procedures are changing due to a number of influences including better awareness, bigger money and twitter type communications. Oh--and more litigation. It's always been to the clubs' advantages to hide their handicaps--now there are bigger interests driving their public statements.

You guys are way off.During the game, the majority of the reporters sit in a press box. They are given many different sheets of paper throughout the game with all sorts of info. The game is displayed on several TVs in addition to the live view. Depending on the team, there may be computers available and TV screen scrolling info. Every paper has different deadlines, but generally the reporters in that press box have to file an article very quickly after the game. It's not written late sunday night or monday morning like some imagine. It's done like right then. Usually the post game press conference is more notes for additions to the article. Quotes to plug in etc. Occasionally something dramatic will happen and the reporter will have to write an article on that. For the most part, a good chunk of the article is done and then there's these additions, then it's sent into the editor right away. This article is about those guys in the press box (that gets tons of info all game long) not being given the info about Griffin's injury. The trainer (teams may have a publicist and all sorts of people in the middle) gets the news to the pressbox right away. Keep in mind, game injury updates are vague and often include "MRI Monday and we'll know more then" or whatever. The Pro Football Writers Association meets with NFL folks to discuss policies with the press and all. They are assured of updates during the game, in that pressbox. They didn't get one.If you all want NFL updates in your Monday paper or Sunday night on the newspaper websites....you want to support this rule. There's a few hiccups each year, but generally NFL teams are very good at providing this info during the game.

subtitle is ridiculous, this has nothing to do with New England nor their reporting of injuries to the pressbox during a game.

I didn't see a more appropriate Goodell thread so I'll post here.

Most everyone would probably agree that Goodell has had a pretty ####ty previous few years as commish. But even with botched disciplinary investigations/decisions his job was never really in peril because he was basically acting as a lightning rod for the owners, and the NFL continues to make truckloads of money. The on-field product and the owner's profits were untouched though all of this. That is, until this Peterson situation.

I think it's pretty clear that the Ray Rice situation was botched several times, starting with a non-investigation to the insufficient suspension (which could be argued was the correct decision, but that's a different discussion entirely) to lying about trying to see the tape to giving into public pressure to suspend Rice indefinitely. [There is also an element of being too buddy-buddy with the Ravens' owners that I won't comment further on..] The decision to suspend Rice indefinitely after the public threw a fit when the 2nd video was released was overly reactionary. The 24-hour news cycle would have moved on to the next story soon enough if Goodell didn't alter the suspension. And the over-reaction, I would argue, intensified the faux-outrage (I say faux-outrage because nobody gave a #### about greg hardy or the other dom abuse cases in the nfl until this, and I acknowledge the video had something to do with that but Goodell's overreaction intensified it significantly) from the media and created an environment where the public was primed to react harshly (relative to 12 month's prior for example) to whomever screwed up next. And based on the precedent Goodell set a few month's before, he would again have to drop the hammer in a way that he wouldn't have a year before.

Even considering the Vikings and its owners are worth so much money, they should still be a bit upset that Peterson missed his entire age 28-29 season and now wants to play for another team. There is a lot to be said for a HoF-level (potential GOAT) player retiring with the organization that drafted him. And the Vikings will likely lose that, partially as a result of Goodell being a ####ty commish

I think Rice and Peterson should be expelled, fired, banished- never be allowed to play another down in the NFL. This is why I support Goodell, he tries to lay down the law correctly against players that commit these type of crimes. If the players union (and some of the players) had their way, they would get away with bloody murder and then claim innocence or blame someone else when needed. Rice's suspension was correct if not lenient as was Petersons. Ha, Goodell/NFL even claimed that Peterson didn't seem to show much remorse regarding the incidents, that is frankly unbelievable. Peterson should be gone. You're little opinions you claim as facts are often wrong, I get it, you don't like Goodell. But at least Goodell has the stones to try to keep the NFL a reasonable entity.

"The 24-hour news cycle would have moved on to the next story soon enough if Goodell didn't alter the suspension."

This sentence revelas enough about where you're coming from to disregard whatever you surround it with. The NFL must evolve to take matters of domestic violence and child abuse with the utmost seriousness!! If a mistake was made, make the effort to correct it, the publics reaction was correct.

Totally man. You must have been right on board with his initial 2 game suspension of Rice he did as a favor to his buddy Biscotti.
