Goodell is the most charismatic arms dealer I've heard (1 Viewer)

I shouldn't have to pay as much as Bill Gates when we both get a speeding ticket?
I hope that speeding ticket in your state don't cost you 25% of your yearly salary. Goodell decides to add more randomness to NFL fines. He fines Jacobs 20 grand and Wilkerson 10 Gs for fighting each other. Jacobs fined heavier because he is a repeat offender.

Yet somehow Goodell think it is just to fine Lockley the same amount as a repeat offender.

The NFL has a responsibility to protect its brand. Thats what "PR" is. Providing safe haven for all the NCAA cheaters isnt in the best interest of their brand. Look at the NBA for instance.

Exactly right.Every decision Goodell makes is about the dollars involved. EVERY decision. That's what he is.I'm not knocking him for that either....but once that is understood it's easy to see why he handles things the way he does.

Player Safety

Focus should be on advances in headgear design, diagnosis of head injuries and treatment thereof, both while active players and post-career. The on-field "rule changes" while taking care of some obvious safeguards (spearing, helmet-to-helmet hits), the pendulum has swung to far. The new kickoff rule needs to be changed immediately, as it is bad for the game. Eliminate the 5 yard running start for the kickoff team and move it back to the 30, most of the special teams guys don't see the field the rest of the day anyway.

It is a violent game played by warriors. Rule changes can only go so far.

If what you say above is accurate then it's a fair point. He changes fine amounts for the same infraction in some cases but when it would actually makes sense to change the fine amount (as in it's talking 50% of a player's salary away) then he doesn't?It seems almost everyone agrees, pro-Goddell or not, that he needs to improve the consistancy of his fines.

I agree with everything in this post.
