Goodson vs Ivory (1 Viewer)

It seems most folks are assuming Ivory gets the job and produces good numbers. I'm not suggesting that cannot happen but I feel overlooking Goodson could be a mistake (especially in ppr leagues).

they both have produced well in limited touches. In fact Goodson looked very good when carrying the mail for a short period in CAR. They are the same age basically. They both have good size. They both have good speed. Ivory might have more power but I'm not certain this is the case.

The real difference imo is that Goodson is very adept at receiving out of the backfield.

I would love to hear others weigh in on this.

My guess is ivory on first and second, goodson on third, with ivory the gl work. Sprinkle in the other rbs here and there.

Not rb1, but rb2/3 isn't far fetched imo.

Giving up a possible 4th rd. draft pick for a short yardage back? I see that often. :sarcasm:

Even a blind person can listen to tape of the two and know which one they are watching. The talent between the two is not even close.

I'm shocked this is a thread, seeing as how the deal is not even completed.

And I still like Powell out of this group and go with him because he is the most complete on the three.

Any team needs 3 RB's. Ivory will be the Thunder in this group. When they are ahead and want to grind it out he will be in there.(How often do we expect them to be ahead) Powell fits the WCO best of this group and I see him as the lead back still even with this. Goodson was brought in for insurance to Powell just in case. Vet who has been around and is a professional. This draft has been called one of the weakest for RB in a long time. Worst position in the NFL draft coming up for talent. So they go out and get Thunder that they needed still(If the Ivory trade goes down) and bring in a professional for insurance, so they can spend the draft on places where it is not easy to pickup guys for as cheap.

Kind of like saying Gerhart would kill Peterson because they drafted him in round 2. Nice insurance is what they wanted in the end.

I like Ivory a bit more than Goodson, but it is closer than many may think.
I'm going to be all over Goodson this year. Obviously his value plummets if this trade goes through. I am a bit hesitant to enter into the mess that is the Jets, but there is potential in the running game. Despite his performance last year, I don't think Powell is a scrub so I probably wasn't going to pay the going rate for Goodson, but if Ivory enters the equation then I'm sure Goodson will become very affordable.

Personally, I suspect he's the better talent (none of us can speak with certainty) but even if I'm wrong, I have the benefit of Ivory's injury history. He's almost certainly going to miss some games. Goodson will either have value as a fill-in or he'll have his chance to show why he should be the starter (assuming he doesn't do that in training camp, which he might). Either way, he'll more than likely justify his price tag.

Here's a short article on Goodson: https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/03/17/fantasy-reaction-mike-goodson-signs-with-the-new-york-jets/

I think it is an interesting discussion even if the trade does not happen.

I tend to agree with SugarNuts that Goodson might be favored in a pass catching role more than Ivory, I am not sure about Ivory's pass protection but he looks like a solid runner who finishes his runs well. I could see a fairly even split with Goodson getting more looks in the passing game while Ivory gets more rushing attempts.

I could see the Jets running the ball a enough to make both possibly good match up players.

If the Jets do give up a pick for Ivory I think he gets minimum 100 touches with a decent chance to double that if he does earn a substantial role. If not the Jets may be drafting a RB. I kind of doubt they would trade for a RB and draft one, but I suppose that is also possible.

In a vacuum I consider both players to be pretty close in talent level, with Goodson perhaps being better rounded but not quite as explosive. I think Goodson could have a law firm/Chester Taylor like season if given the opportunity to be the feature RB and stay healthy.

tough to get excited about this RBBC situation. ivory is at best a 2-down back while goodson has a solid all-around game. goodson may have real value in PPR because he'll get a lot of dump offs with sanchez behind center. this could be a decent running team with hill, cumberland and an addition to the o-line through the draft. they don't have a lot of proven downfield threats.

Umm, yeah they gave up a 4th pick didnt they? lol... And a 5th is nothing special. Go play where you belong .

And yes Ivory is not as good as Goodson and he's not great either.

::::Spare me the highlight real, I can show you a Highlight real of Mark Sanchez that would make you believe he was the next Peyton Manning::::

I can also show you a highlight real of Ivory getting worked over and over but again its a small sample size. Bottom line Saints cant even land a 4th rd pick for this guy to a team seemingly needing a RB.

He's a short yardage back at best.

All you speak is hyperbole, and I need to go play else where? Noted.

5th round pick is nothing special? Ivory is not as good as Goodson?
