If you've used Airplay/Apple TV, it's the same thing. Except, if you want to stream your PC to your TV, you used to be out of luck using Airplay to an Apple TV if you didn't have a Mac computer.

Enter Chromecast.

Plug Chromecast into the USB port on your TV, configure on your PC, and all set for $35 bucks.

Really excited to see this take off.

Seems interesting, but based on my Roku/Vizio Smart TV experience I don't think I would buy it. First, I have used the Smart TVs with wireless and wired through an ethernet power adapter (the one that plugs into an outlet) and the wired connection is noticeably better. Second, the Smart TV usability is far and away better than the Roku. One remote control for the TV with a button to (for me) open Amazon Prime Video. I like the Roku, but watching the same thing on the Smart TV is a lot easier to use. I guess I could see getting this assuming it supports Amazon Prime Video in the future instead of a Roku on a non-Smart TV, but I would opt for the Smart TV over both in a heart beat.

Ok, but I'm still not sure what's the big deal about that. I'm not a roku owner b/c i watch everything downloaded via a media server connected to all my tvs, but I don't see what this is giving as far as content that you're not getting with roku except the need for another machine whether its a phone/tablet/laptop to stream content to this.

Think: UFC stream/Boxing match. Any NFL game stream. Any flash video really that you can stream via Chrome. Hit a button on your laptop, and it's on your TV via this dongle.

Maybe I'm overplaying this, but I absolutely love the convenience of this with Apple devices personally, and am very glad it's now hitting PC devices at a better price.

Some of that stuff is already available on roku such as the ufc stream, but I could see the appeal if something is from a pirated stream although I'm not sure if the quality of the content is going to be enjoyable on a large screen. Good to know though.

So the advantage to using this with my laptop is simply that I don't have to physically connect the HDMI cable to my laptop, right? If that's the only thing then I think I'd rather use the HDMI cable; I can't image the video quality is as good over wireless.

ETA: I guess this could be neat if I was traveling and wanted to connect my phone to a TV in the hotel room without bring cables or something.

So there are no restrictions? As in- I could watch movies on any site( not just porn, believe it or not), but on abc.com, lets say, but as long as I'm watching in chrome browser, I can send to my tv? I ask because I thought there were some issues originally with AirPlay that networks wanted to block that feature from their websites.

Either way, for $11, I think I'm in.

Streaming content passes directly from the Internet source to the dongle. Your laptop, tablet, or phone just provides the user interface. So expensive or powerful device is not necessary.
