The Santa Rosa Press Democrat believes Frank Gore may be in danger of missing next Sunday's game against New Orleans.Gore sprained an ankle in the first half Sunday, had it taped up on the sideline, then reportedly played the rest of the game on pure adrenaline. 49ers coach Mike Nolan wanted to take him out, but Gore insisted on staying in. More is expected to be known about Gore's injury on Monday. Michael Robinson would likely get the bulk of the load if Gore sits out Week 8.

 the injuries this year are unreal

Call me crazy but I doubt he misses a game. He played the whole 2nd half on it and Im sure X-rays were negative meaning he just has a sprained ankle. And I doubt he can hurt his ankle more by playing on it so it will only be about managing the pain.

You doubt he can hurt his ankle more by playing on it? If its just a sprain he can very well hurt it more by playing on it.

Yeah, that was kind of a weird post by shadyridr. He generally has pretty decent posts, so I have to believe that he didn't really think through what he was saying there. :lmao:

I can't think of an injury that is MORE susceptable to "re-injury" than an ankle sprain when it is played on before a reasonable healing period. There is a wide spectrum of severity with ankle sprains. Low grade ankle sprains are just a nuisance, anything serious would severly hinder a RB 1 week later.

Correct. And today is really the day when the swelling will show up. Yesterday it was wrapped and packed into a shoe.Unless he slept with it that way he'll be looking at a serious club foot when he wakes up...

Well according to the quote in the first post, Robinson would get the bulk of the carries.

However, according to the depth chart Hicks is next in line.

I grabbed Hicks early on in case Gore went down. He's been taking up a roster spot on my team all year and now they say he wont even get the work if Gore is out?

Well put!! I can't even remember a season such as this one with the amount of injuries!!

Can any SF homers clarify the backup situation?
Definitely plan on shared time, and not a 50/50 RBBC. They'll share indeed, but the tilt will depend on the complexion of the game (sorry, I know that doesn't help). Both receive the ball well, but gotta give the nod to Hicks. With/if Alex Smith coming back, and the shape of that o-line, and every team thinking they can blueprint what the NYG did yesterday, I imagine quite a few drop offs and outlets. Robinson is the goal line back... as they used him last year in a few situations with some razzle dazzle success.New Orleans at home... if the Saints run up the score... I'd have to imagine Nolan sticking with the game plan. Even if down 27 pts, they continue on like it's 0-0 in the first quarter (playcalling and tight playbook, a gripe in SF, and there's no rhetoric (nor the talent) to do elsewise). If I had to predict right now...Hicks - 50/25/.2Robinson - 45/20/.7 (1 fumble)

CBS reports he's probably playing next weekend.I think this is an overrated/overblown ankle injury.everyone is nicked up, its the halfway point of the season. bups and bruises are normal at this juncture..

Gentlemen, I have have a hard time blieving that you are wasting cyber-ink, time and energy on some yellow journalist's *ahem* belief.....Since when did The Santa Rosa Press Democrat become a credible source over... say... Footballguys.com on football related issues? Shheeesh.

Concussion and separated shoulder. Each injury increases the likelihood of another one. Since he played on it I would bet he takes the week off from practice except for maybe Friday and then plays on Sunday.

Gore's tough and he bounces back from tough losses...just last week he won the Nobel Peace Prize. Oh, wait, wrong Gore. Anyway, I read an article at the beginning of the season when he broke his hand how he has a mentality of being afraid he'll be replaced if he sits (given his history at Miami) so I think if he can make a go of it (like he did in the second half), he will. If you look at his runs in the second half (and a pass reception), nearly all of them were for 4 yards or more including a 13 yarder so it doesn't look like it slowed him down entirely.

At his Monday press conference, 49ers coach Mike Nolan called Frank Gore "day to day" with a right ankle sprain.

Gore is confident he'll play in Week 8, but those covering the team aren't so sure. Gore reportedly struggled to walk after Sunday's loss to the Giants, and may be limited in or held out of early-week practices. Maurice Hicks and Michael Robinson are both worth looks in fantasy leagues as insurance. Oct. 22 - 5:09 pm et

If the blurb was written by Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, then it is a credible source. The guy is on KNBR 680 almost everyday giving training camp, practice field, game day reports. He knows what he's talking about. Oh yeah, he's also written a book with Roger Craig.

side note -

Oct 22 Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore believes the biggest problem for the team's offensive woes this season has been the lack of trust between the players and the coaching staff. In particular, Gore called out first year offensive coordinator Jim Hostler, who has not had the same impact on the team as former offensive coordinator Norv Turner did. "I just know that we had Norv Turner," Gore said. "He's been doing it for a while. Whenever he said something we wanted to do it. And now I feel that a lot of people when coach Hoss or somebody calls something, it gets in the back of their heads, 'Is he calling the right play?' instead of just going out there and busting your behind. That's all it is right now, I feel."
