Gore wants rushing record next year (1 Viewer)

Frank Gore's first season as the 49ers' starting tailback ended with him leading the NFC in rushing and owning every meaningful franchise record for a runner. Hey, Frank, what will you do for an encore? "I'm going for 2,200 (yards) next year," he said with a straight face. "That's the record, right?" As a matter of fact, 2,200 yards would shatter the season rushing record -- 2,105 yards -- Eric Dickerson set in 1984. Baltimore tailback Jamal Lewis flirted with the mark in 2003, and Gore would need to tack 411 yards onto his total this season (1,695) to earn the record.

He definitely surprised me this year and had a fantastic season. I doubt he'll get the record but he looks like he'll be a top back in the league for years to come.

I hope he gets it since he will be my keeper next year. I doubt he will do it though. Hard enough to rush for 2000 yards let alone the record.

Normally I laugh at comments like this from RBs, but after he put up 1700 yards on a mediocre team -- I don't really think I should dismiss it as completely abusrd.

Especially considering the mediocre rush defenses in their division (St. Louis, Sea, Ari (x2)).

I have heard this before. He is barrowing a quote from J Jones of the Cowboys from 2 seasons ago. I hope it works better for Gore.

I'm not even sure why these dumb quotes get posted in here during the offseason. My guess is that every RB on an NFL roster has 2.2k+ as their goal for next season. :goodposting:

Has any RB who was ever quoted as gaining 2000+ yds in a season ever actually reached 2000+ yds?

Seriously, are there really RBs out there saying "well, I'll be pretty happy to top 1000 yards rushing again next season. If I get 1400 I'd be really excited!"

Deshaun Foster....

J-Lew said he would get 2000 yards and got it right? He got some 550 yards from the Cleveland games alone.

Definitely in his favour if he wants to break the mark. Beats playing in the AFC North. :)
Too bad the NFC West plays the AFC North next season. And I own SJax and Gore in my Keeper league. Still, 6 games against the NFC West should be nice.

See Willis McGahee... how did he do??
McGahee and JJones were coming off of season where they had 900 or 1000 yards when they made that quote. Of course it sounds silly there. Frank Gore just came off a 5.4 YPC, 1700 yard season. Frank Gore getting 2000 yards would only mean a 17% increase in his production. I'm not saying it's likely to happen, but considering the year he just had it's not hard to imagine.

The man formally known as Domanick Davis had a similar prophecy after his only big year.

He. Won't. Do. It.

Unless the 49ers get a time machine, bring back the Hogs and make them block for him next year, don't plan on him getting close to 2200 yards rushing.

These predictions rank near "putting on 10 pounds of muscle" and "losing 10 pounds so he can be quicker" threads.

I remember drafting Anthony Thomas in the 2nd or 3rd round in 2002 after his 1200 yard rookie season, after reading some hype about ATrain gunning for 2000 yards. I didn't realize he meant for the rest of his career.
