Gore's Backup? (1 Viewer)

Gotta be Dixon. He spells Gore when he needs a breather. Dixon also had a zillion carries in preseason and started most of those games. Westbrook seems to just have a set # of plays where he is worked into the game for a change of pace.

There would be no workhorse. It would be divided, Dixon mostly between the tackles and Westbrook on outside runs and receiving.

Let's hope we never have to find out.

Westbrook wasn't with SF most of the preseason, signing Aug 16th. Then of course the time to get into the system. So, it only made sense that Dixon got the extra preseason work.True, Dixon has had a few carries here and there in the regular season, but very few, and he's done little with them. If Gore were to go down I doubt Dixon would fill the 90%+ role that Gore has up to now.

I've watched the 9ers a lot this year and I think Dixon would be the guy to own as well, although Westbrook might take a larger share of the touches than he does now.

As it pertains to Dixon, what do you think of him in terms of dynasty value? Could he possibly be the lead guy here in two years?

I'm going to be a bit of a devil's advocate here and say they get Westbrook more time than people think. For some reason against the rams, Gore was left in to block a lot more than usual, which makes me think that the coaches value a back who can pick up the blitz. Guess who was in at RB when Alex Smith got knocked out? Dixon's a great back and I think shows alot of potential, but Westbrook had a rep as one of the best blitz pickup backs and his versatility will earn him more playing time than people think, at least 50/50 perhaps even more.

I think we're all saying the same thing just in slightly different ways: It will be a rbbc and neither Dixon nor Westbrook will slide into Gore's workload.

The degree of the split is a mystery. But it would be a split.

It really would depend on how well each player performed. If Dixon didn't produce with a bigger workload, they won't give him as many carries. You cant play them exactly to their strengths because the opponent will know it's coming. Assuming Dixon can produce, Westbrook would probably just maintain his role. On the other side of coin, if Gore does go down, they certainly aren't running as much making Westbrook more important. Soo, you don't really know until it happens.

nobody has thoughts on Dixon's dynasty value? Gore isn't that durable and is starting to get up there in age/touches

Since his rookie year he has missed 5 games in 4 years. He's as durable as any other rb. And Gore is 27. He easily has another 3 years of high production.

I like him. I don't think he is a great back who will dominate for years, but he could be a decent RB2 for a couple of years if he gets an opportunity. In dynasty, he is worth holding but on the other hand, if I could trade him for a good player I wouldn't consider him untradeable.
