Grant Wistrom cut by 'Hawks (1 Viewer)

DE Grant Wistrom has been cut by the Seahawks.

Only a few years ago Wistrom was signed by the 'Hawks to a big money deal. He was considered an effort guy. Good locker room guy.

Now he has been replaced by another effort guy who has been signed by the Hawks to a big money deal.

I don't really understand the Seahawks' evaluation of DEs and the money they have laid out. However, for purposes of this post, where does Wistrom go?

Weird, I had read that it would be less of a cap hit if they had kept Wistrom, rather than cutting him.

Maybe the move was to open up cap space in the future.

I heard they had asked Wistrom to restructure or take a pay cut, looks like he wasn't willing to do so.

:goodposting:I just read an article on rotoworld I believe that said that Bryce Fisher would be the one getting cut and there would be a rotation of Kerney, Wistrom, and Tapp! :lmao:

The Seahawks are processing it as a June 2 cut so that the salary cap hit will be spread over two years.

Grant Wistrom Released by Seahawks By Doug Farrar Seahawks.NETPosted Mar 8, 2007As first reported by Adam Shefter of the NFL Network, the Seattle Seahawks have released defensive end Grant Wistrom. This is yet another step in the team’s constant process of reinventing its defensive line. It is also a somewhat expected move, as team president Tim Ruskell had said that after Seattle recently signed former Atlanta Falcons DE Patrick Kerney to a six-year, $39.5 million deal, Wistrom would be asked to restructure his own contract, which was six years and $33 million, signed in March of 2004. It would now seem that Wistrom and his agent, Tom Condon, refused to restructure. Condon is also Steve Hutchinson’s agent, and was the pointman in the “poison-pill” offer sheet that allowed the Minnesota Vikings to steal the Pro Bowl guard away from the Seahawks in 2006.It was not a contract that Wistrom had lived up to – he was brought in to bring change to Seattle’s defensive line, but he never totaled over 52 tackles and four sacks in a season. The Seahawks will save $3.5 million in cap room in 2007 by releasing Wistrom, but they can’t use the money until June 2, pursuant to the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.Wistrom was selected out of Nebraska as the sixth overall pick in the 1998 draft by the St. Louis Rams.Stay tuned to Seahawks.NET for more free agency news as it becomes available

With apologies for not paying any attention to cap issues before posting...

Denver was looking hard at Kerney before he signed and may be a possibility. Other teams that could use help at defensive end include HOU, OAK, ATL, DET and a few others depending on what they think of their current vets (TB, ARZ, JAX).

I would bet he is already on his way to Tennessee. We need a DE in the bad way. Him and Reinfeldt know each other from Seattle

PlEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE let this happen. Getting a vet DE to put oppositte Van Den Bocchshchs would be a great addition and let them focus on DB's in the draft.

I wouldn't count out a return to STL. Yeah, the Rams got Hall, but he's coming off a year where he missed 9 games while Adejaneu is still a project. He was a big fan favorite during his tenure in St. Louis, too.

I don't know where he's going, but him getting cut this year is about the best thing that ever happened to him. He'll get another deal and a hella signing bonus....Teams are just burning money on average players....

i wouldn't mind seeing him in silver & black. but i'm not willing to overpay him at all. i see him as a solid DE & nothing more.
