Not sure why but the Ringer just doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good as Grantland

is it possible ESPN made for a better site?   Simmons unfettered is subpar

The editor in chief of The Ringer is Sean Fennessey, who was a grantlander, but seems to have some different ideas.

The text side of the operation is hosted on Medium, the first big new publication to launch there, but Fennessey declined to go into detail about whether Ev Williams's company is paying his, or vice versa.

So whatever it is that they are trying to do is much more focused on the multimedia platform and attention economy than Grantland was.  Which clearly makes it worse for dyed-in-the-wool grantland readers, but I guess they think this is more of the future for more people . . .

I haven't been there in a month. Articles were horrible and ended abruptly. And far too short. If I want to read 650 words on an NBA team I'll just come here.

I go to the Ringer when I've exhausted all the other sites I go to at work. Look at all the stories plastered all over the place, nothing grabs me, finally settle on something, it either ends up trying hard to be funny and fails, is three lame pointless paragraphs, or does a deep boring dive into some Apple or Snapchat thing I don't care about.

Yeah Grantland was better.

Completely forgot about that site. Really liked Grantland. Hate the layout of this. Scrolled through about a weeks worth of articles and didn't find one to read.

I don't know how an idea that bad gets the go-ahead.  Maybe Simmons doesn't put the time in anymore?  Too many ventures?  Maybe he's trying to salvage the HBO show or get that Pinterest site off the ground???

Just skimmed the Ringer.  Not one single article worth reading (imo).  

Also, Grantland wrote about hockey.  Did a search and 1 story on Ovechkin 1/12.  14 other results.... football, basketball.  Crazy

Grantland was hit or miss, but I enjoyed it. Have yet to venture to the Ringer.
