Great RB's... (1 Viewer)

In the other thread with the CBS guys drafting E James went # 5. I wonder if there is an article or analysis that shows top 10 RB when they get traded to a less then optimal rushing attack the next year.

Boys?

It would be interesting to see historically how a supposed really good back does on a bad rushing team.

I don't feel like looking it up, but there was one just a few days ago (less than a week) on this very subject.

I don't know if it was the thread consensus, but after a superficial perusal of the data, I came to the conclusion that there are too many other factors (system, coach, OL, skill position players, RB depth) to find a correlation to what Edge's numbers likely will be.

The best way to predict them for the '06 season would be to study his single case extensively, as with any other player in a new system.

The good backs will succeed.

Look at Portis. He completely changed his running style. He put on what, 20 lbs and became more of a north-south run-you-over back. After a season or so of adjustment, he began to dominate again.

there was an article about this topic, "RB's changing addresses and how it affects them" or something similar last year on fantasy index's website It did show that Rb's moved to other franchises, actually do quite well with their new teams..

Corey Dillon did well when he left Cincy, Antowain Smith was ok after he left Buff,

TJ has been moved twice, and both times he improved, Lamont Jordan did very well in Oakland last year, OJ Anderson with the 1990 Giants.Heck, even Ahman Green was golden once traded to GB from Seattle..

As for Edge, its probably best to look at Denny Green's history of coaching to find what RB's usually do under him. Robt Smith carried the ball 295 times in 2000 in Minnesota. Much like Az., the 2000 Vikings had a very thin RB corps, with Smith, Kleinsasser, Morrow, and Moe Williams..Similiarly, the Cards are very thin at RB in '06.

the only RB Green has coached that came close to Smith's 295 carries, was Terry Allen, who got 266 carries + 13 tds in 1992, and had to compete with Roger Craig, who carried the ball 105 times. Allen then compiled another 255 carries in 1994..

With the $$ invested in Edge ( and he's partly responsible for the Cards selling out their new stadium), one can make the case that James is going to get plenty of action , somewhere around 300 carries in '06. He is their Crown Jewel, they haven't had a RB like him in a long time, and they will showcase him every chance they get.. Edge is a lock to finish as a top 5 RB , behind only Portis,SA,LT2,LJ, IMHO..

so what if the line is subpar, defenses are going to have to lineup with more nickel & dime packages to defend against the pass, putting smaller DB's on the field and less run stuffing LB's and d-linemen..

the Giants o-line was supposed to be the team's glaring weak spot last year, but it turned out to be their greatest strength, so you never know what happens with the Cards o-line..

i've noticed the same thing, sometimes a very low rated O-line, changes its colors within a season. I don't know if its wishful thinking being an Edge owner or what, but we can't just assume that the OLine will be the worst in the league.

The Colts were 70-26 with Edge in the lineup and 7-9 without him. While Edge has been a great fantasy back, more improtantly he is an outstanding NFL'er and will make the Cardinals much better.

From a fantasy perspective - I'm not sure. I can't imagine he'll have his best season on record, but I think he be an admirable and consistant #1 back (injury aside). He will make that line look better and help take the pressure off the QB - he is one of the best blocking backs in the game.

When you talk about backs moving teams, there are great backs and there are great systems. I think Edge is a great back.

The Giant OL is not a good one. To clarify, they are a top run blocking line, but one of the worst pass blocking lines.
