Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: It's Happening, 30 lists received so far. (7 Viewers)

First (final?) draft submitted. As I stacked my shows, I found myself thinking of variety probably too much. For example,

Is The Sopranos better than Sherlock? Maybe. Maybe it shouldn't depend on how many dramas I have just loaded up vs. how many crime shows I have. Maybe it shouldn't, but I feel like it influenced my decision too often.

I guess Scores didn't really specify how we should decide on our favorites. So I guess what would you watch next if you were in solitary confinement for the next 3 months is as good a method as any.

And one of these I bet a lot of people have forgotten about and are going to say "oh **** I should have included that".
Who Wants to be a Millionaire or To Tell the Truth or Match Game (I almost included this one)

No. Although I considered that third one.
I gotta figure this out.....

Stump the Schwab or Dating Game or Hollywood Squares
Remote Control?

Love it, and will be on my list. But that is not what I'm referring to.

Are we just spotlighting all shows in here now? I don't know the rules.
Most Extreme Elimination Challenge?

Bingo

Forgot about that show.

I didn't think of childhood educational type shows. Mine would be The Magic Garden. IYKYK.
Mr. Rodgers might be the GOAT but Reading Rainbow might be a worthy contender. I also might include Ducktales for having such an amazing theme song.

This is what I’m trying to avoid across lists as much as possible. And yes this example did happen.

Chappelle’s Show
Chappelles Show
Chapelle’s Show
Chappele’s Show
Chappelle Show

If I don’t catch all of these, they show up as different entries, which can really lower a show’s ranking.

Another thing that I’m seeing is people omitting the “The” for some shows. So “Sopranos” instead of “The Sopranos”.
This is the correct one so others will know

It's really hard to rank 22 minute sitcoms against 44 minute dramas/action/sci-fi shows - but it should be interesting to see if one dominates the other in these lists.

The sheer volume of dramas the past 20 years should be a larger factor. I mean the ratio is probably 15:1 in viewership. There are probably more CSI than sitcoms now.

I just went to check if I included the “The” or not, and realized that I forgot about that one entirely in my list. I can’t wait to find out what other shows I forgot about.

You can resubmit if need be.
Im checking every single one of mine on IMDB as instructed and writing as per that.
Not exactly rocket science

I'll resubmit too, after checking all titles with IMDB.

OK, everyone should do this. Set the ego aside. I'm seeing I got a lot of them incorrect. I always thought it was spelled 'Johnny Quest'. Nope. Jonny Quest is correct.

Look, Scores is being very cool quarterbacking this thing. Least we can do is run good routes.

#25 on my list. I believe it's the hardest my wife and I have ever laughed together. I think something even went wrong, like cramping or vomiting from how hard we laughed the first time we saw it.

Thanks but no need to resubmit if it’s only to fix titles. Only resubmit if you forgot a show or need to re rank.

Whoops, too late lol

I was hesitant at first because I haven’t seen some of the “consensus best shows of all time,” but since some people are submitting quirky, individualized lists, so will I.
There are a few of the big ones that I haven't seen either and a few of the other big ones that I just don't like. My list will definitely be quirky. I like what I like.

Submitted my list an hour or so ago.

There are many shows that i havent seen that will probably rank very high.
Some of us require a significant other to like the show and not quit after a couple of episodes ffs
Thats why my list wont have The Wire, The Sopranos, The Office (both UK and US) etc
I would therefore have a show like Outlander, which I wont, cause its a steaming pile of crap

Your secret identity, however...

This is me as well. Have missed some of the biggies, and I know my list will be weird.

So, this was very difficult, and I’m not sure if I did this the right way, but the way I chose is trying to get shows that even though they would not be my top 70 shows today, they represented every period of my life where I loved watching the shows. I’m still not sure I agree with my rankings, but @Scoresman , my list is submitted. I know I’ll have some shows where I’m the lone wolf.

Would be sort of funny if top ranked shows like the wire etc. missed the mark since none of us has seen them. I too have never watched any of those shows
With all the talk of the wire, I started the first episode lastnight. I fell asleep part way through, but I think that’s because I’m old…
It’s a pretty slow burn it probably took me 4-5 episodes for it to really click (this scene specifically https://youtu.be/PNVEQgXsBgs?si=nas-2MDS7Kz1IeiA )

I understand that approach and I'm guessing most lists will be from that perspective... but I just couldn't list the dreck I watched out of desperation when there were only 3 channels.

For me, there are some dividing lines - comedies got much better for me when they dropped laugh tracks, dramas flipped for me when Lost debuted. I just checked my list, and I have 4 comedies with laugh tracks and 4 dramas pre-Lost.

Fantastic scene!

Steeler, stay with it. You will be rewarded.

Same - I’m sure I’ll have a few unique ones. And the ranking is tough - once I am getting through the top 10 or so, it’s like any of them could have gone anywhere.

Yeah, definitely don’t know if it was the right way to go, but some peoples dreck are others gems. I’m really excited to see people’s list and the discussion they bring.

I’m still not even agree on my top 10. My only easy pick was my number one.

With so many saying they’ve never watched some of the consensus top shows of all time, is there really a consensus?
Probably not because there will be some era/genre differences here, just like it's probably going to be "favorite" rather than necessarily "greatest" shows (at least for me). But it will all probably shake out fine if enough people contribute.

The Diedre Kresson murder in the show was probably based on the actual murder of Dessera Press in Baltimore in the '80s. https://x.com/Ziggys_Duck/status/1785266162302964104

Question. A lot of you have been submitting David Letterman and using two different names. I looked it up and it seems that his show was called Late Night with David Letterman on NBC and then changed to Late Show with David Letterman when he changed networks.

I'm inclined to count this as one show, unless there is great outrage.

Only if you also include his morning show

This seems like the right answer but while I liked Letterman I wasn't a devotee that watched every night. Maybe there is a difference in the two offerings but I never really noticed a difference.

I’d lump them together, assuming you might have to do something similar with Scooby Doo since there’s so many variations
I’d at least lump the core stuff together, even the crappy scrappy years and treat anything else separately (a pup named scooby doo, mystery Inc, Velma)

I assumed they were separate, which is why I put in the NBC version. I'm fine if you want to count as one.
