Greatest Video Game Draft 2011 (2 Viewers)

4.08 Yo Mama selects:

Fallout 3 (Seventh Generation)
I know people love this game, but I was not one of them. I don't like open worlds where I wander around for 45 minutes wondering where I'm supposed to go or what I'm supposed to do. And you can find yourself outmatched firepower-wise pretty quickly.

Cool looking game though.
So you go back to your save point and don't go that way again. Also, in this game, that is an option. You have missions that get progressively harder, so there's not reason not to know what you are supposed to be going or where you should be going.

Absolutely love the game - the only minor beef I had was having to run around in the confusing subway system too much.

4.13 & 5.01 PitbullTD Skipped

Go ahead biggamer3.

Tomorrow we move 1 hour per pick with consecutive skips happening automatically. We are on pace to finish by February. There is no way I am going to be doing this for another 14 days.

5.03 - Star Wars (1983) - Arcade game

I pity the children of today. Not being able to walk into arcades like The Pirate's Den in West Acres in Fargo, North Dakota.

The sights and sounds (and smells!) were unparalleled.

Among the sounds most distinctive were "Red five standing by!" and "The Force will be with you...always." eminating from the Star Wars game. Sure the vector graphics weren't all that. And sure it got nearly impossible on your third run. But when you gripped that X-wing controller (or better yet actually found a sit down version) you FELT like you were Luke Skywalker - which of course every boy in the 80's wanted to be.

I'd love to get one of these for my house.

5.04 Portal - Xbox 360 - Puzzle

One of the best games to come around in a long time. I don't like puzzle games very much but this one just grabbed me for the whole ride. The top notch story makes it a must play.

I was hoping this would stick around a bit longer.

The clock didn't even last a day, a holiday at that.
Five out of the nine hours on the clock were spent timing out today. During that time we have 10-11 of the drafters on a good portion of the time randomly. We could have knocked out 2-3 rounds but managed 10 picks.

this is actually normal...non-drafter think 1 hour is too short, but regular drafters want 1, so they compromise on 2...Then realize that 2 hours is brutal and that 1 hour really isn't as short as it sounds like it is and it ends up being 1 ASAP...every draft goes like that (except the ones that skip right to 1 hour or less of a clock)

first my apologies..I am not gonna send a list right now. This is because my pick is a ways off and the clock should be off by the time it gets to me. I also want to think about what I want to do. I was really hoping Bowser or Donkey Kong would fall to me.

Slax--On second thought feel free to make the available pick from my list if my turn comes up....when the clock is in effect.

I could site dozens of reputable top 50, 100, etc. lists of greatest games of all time that list Chrono Trigger in the top 5 (and a ton more that list it in the top 20)... To say that Chrono Trigger (AND Ocarina of Time) are bad picks in round 1 just shows that you are more out of touch with video games than you are in regards to the Pac 10's place in the world...

5.06 Madden 2004 (sports game)

Hopefully the spotlighting doesn't take steam from this pick.

Always at the forefront of gaming, the Madden franchise has always been the pinnacle of sports video games.

It was tough to pick a year due to all the innovations this game provided, but I went with 2004 due to the incredible graphics, smoother gameplay, and the awesome owner mode.

Oh, and since I keep forgetting to put the platform for the games, I'll put Fallout 3 on PS3 and Madden 2004 on PS2.

Madshot, you have Fallout 3 on AcerFC's team instead of mine on the 3rd post.

5.07 System Shock 2 (PC game) Suspense/Horror

System Shock 2 is regarded by critics as highly influential, particularly on first-person shooters and the horror genre. In a retrospective article, Gamespot declared the title "well ahead of its time" and stated it "upped the ante in dramatic and mechanical terms" by creating a horrific game play experience. The title has been inducted into a number of features listing the greatest games ever made, including ones by Gamespy, Edge, IGN, Gamespot, and PC Gamer.

Franchise mode has been awful ever since that year's game. Definitely a good choice. 03 would have been my other.

I love when the awesomeness of my pick is confirmed.
I hate to say it but out of everything he got wrong in his rankings he actually got that one right sorry Andy.(That is just my opinion though)
:bs: It was a great game, but not worthy of a first round pick.

I'm not so sure about that. The NHL series was superior to the Madden series for a good while in the 90s. And although Madden was definitely the best sports game for awhile in the early-to-mid 00s, the NHL series again has it beat today (as do a couple of other sports games that I won't mention because they haven't been picked yet). And of course prior to Madden, there was Tecmo Super Bowl.

#1. I'm not going to question Legend of Zelda being at number 5, its legacy is known to everyone of us. But you considered it a good pick. Consider that Zelda fans all over the world debate on a constant basis on whether Ocarina of Time or A Link to the Past is the best Zelda of All-Time and I think that validates my pick. #2. The last person in the world I'll ever take video game advice from is LHUCKS. If I have a Pac-10 question, you might be in my top 1000, though.

Oh, and the thread subtitle confused me for a second. I saw "Slax Skipped" and thought "it didn't take me THAT long to cook that steak and eat it".

I hate to say it but out of everything he got wrong in his rankings he actually got that one right sorry Andy.(That is just my opinion though)
Again, it depends on what you define as "greatest". Not only is 2k5 better than Madden, so is Tecmo Super Bowl, at least in terms of enjoyment.I think the primary gauge of how good a game is is how fun it is. If you grew up playing video games, you know that TSB is one of the most fun games ever. And I'm still picking MY favorite games anyway, not ones that I think are other people's favorites.

I like this game. I just wonder if it's taken too early. It should be pointed out for those that don't know that System Shock 2 is the spiritual predecessor to Bioshock. For those who stuck to consoles, this one may be an obscure title. But it truly is influential.

5.9 Mega Man 2, Generation 3, NES

With the best game soundtrack of all time and some of the best platforming on the NES, Mega Man was everything you wanted in a video game. It features challenging levels, a rock-paper-scissors style way of dealing with bosses, where you need to defeat the easier bosses first, take their special power and apply that towards the boss that has it as a weakness.

By the way, Heat Man may sound like the easiest, but he's not.

The original Zelda game had a much bigger impact than Ocarina...Ocarina was a great game, but in the first few rounds I'm looking for genre defining selections...not just good games.Zelda qualifies, Ocarina simply does not...more of a 5th round type of selection.I don't care what the Zelda geeks think. :goodposting:

It's cool. To each there own. Besides, that's not your category. :)

First rounder, in my eyes (for the horror category).

1. PitbullTD Mike Tyson Punch-Out (NES)

2. biggamer3 Grand Theft Auto III (PS2)

3. Andy Dufresne Bioshock (Xbox 360)

This round much better than the catastrophe that was round 2.

Pitbull still the leader in the clubhouse after 3 rounds...guy is nailing it.

depends on the category they are picked for. Just saying it seems some games are considered a particular genre because of the weapons used in the game/etc. But great games as they may be, they may not be the best representation of that genre.

and that's all the hinting I'll give.

Zelda 3 a bad pick at 30?!?!Seriously LHUCKS?!

You need to just give your "gamer" card back to wherever you got it from and stop doing this, because you just nullified any positive thoughts of your opinion anyone could have possibly had...

Hey. I'm probably moving it after my next pick.

Again, great game, but not a game changer in gaming.
