Greatest Video Game Draft 2011 (2 Viewers)

Larry_boy, get ready for your pick, BlueDredSo has 10 minutes left until his skip, then I have Mario's and rikishiboy's picks.

So is the timer off now for the night?
Aw, totally forgot about the timer shutting off at 5:00pm EST. Guess we'll have to wait since the last pick happened at 5:10 EST.Almost posted the next two picks.
Same here, I literally had both picks written up and then saw the comment when I was previewing it.
Hope you copied it so you don't have to type it again.

There not mine, just PM that will be copy/paste.

Here's Mario Kart's pick.

Yes, there was Zelda, but that was one player and one world (or two). And, while that is considered a great game there have been others on competing systems. This game has spawned many ports and sequels as well. This game had the player traverse land, other worlds, caves, dungeons with a mutli party system. Yes, there was one or two games that had similar aspects before this game but they did not do it as well as this game did. At one time this was the most expensive game to buy. I give you:

Mario Kart

Arcade(1) Dragon's Lair (5.12)

Arcade(2) Gauntlet (6.02)

Third Generation (1983-1990)

Fourth Generation (1987-1995)

Fifth Generation (1993-2001)

Sixth Generation (1998-2009)

Seventh Generation (2005-Present)

FPS/TPS

Sports

Strategy/RTS

Racing

Puzzle

Fighter

Action/Adventure

Platformer

Hack and Slash/Beat 'em Up

Role Playing

Suspense/Horror

Best Multiplayer

Best Story

Best Main Character(1) Link (1.12)

Best Main Character(2) Samus Aran (2.02)

Best Villain(1) Sephiroth (3.12)

Best Villain(2) Ganondorf Dragmire (4.02)

Worst Game

Flex Video Game(1)

Flex Video Game(2)

8.02 - Phantasy Star - Sega Master System - 3rd Generation

LittleBigPlanet = SOD for Puzzle
:) I was always under the impression LBP was a platformer wher eyou could create levels yourself and share with other people...
Does that make Half-Life1/2 a puzzle since you can use the mod kit to create levels and new games and such too? I never thought of LBP as a puzzle game either.Well, I guess the puzzles in the Half Life games could consider those games as puzzles. That's the greatness of those games is that they are so diverse that they aren't just shooters. One minute it's a action shooter, the next it's a puzzle/platformer, the next it's a survival horror. I guess I just ruined my point.

The thing with the categories is that many games blend into various ones. Its just you don't want to make a game choice too much of a stretch because the judge should be creating the list based on their particular category elements.

Its platformer+puzzles basically.
that is ALWAYS the case... The original Super Mario Bros. had at least one notable puzzle you had to solve in it... The only kind of game that, really, doesn't have puzzles in it of some sort are straight "adventure" games and hack n slash/beat 'em up games...I guess what i'm saying is I don't see how a platformer can possibly be a "SOD" for the puzzle category...

Not that I care about the points as much as others, but I just hope not too much emphasis is placed on innovation. It IS galled "Greatest Video Game Draft" not "Most Important Video Game" or "Most Innovative". Or should I be looking at drafting Tennis For Two next? Sorry for spotlighting. ;)

That's the judges decision on how to balance quality vs importance. Everything except the generational categories will probably have big differences in the time span between most games.

8.5 Super Street Fighter IV, Fighter, X360/PS3

Admitted, I'm not the biggest fighting game fan to ever play video games. But aside from Marvel vs Capcom 2, Street Fighter IV was the first fighting game that made me want to play it. I picked Super Street Fighter IV because the Street Fighter IV's online play was a bit laggy and I feel that Super Street Fighter IV fixed it for the better. That alone warrants it for a better game. Admittedly, I don't get out as much as I used to to play local multiplayer like we used to with Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat II. A good functioning online multiplayer is just what a fighting game needs, just so you can go online and get my butt kicked for the 246th time. Yeah, I suck.

I don't think you can pick another Street Fighter since one is already picked. My bad, I misread the rules - its only for sports and racing. I messed up my Tekken pick then.

Only hint I'll give as a judge is that if I feel the primary purpose of a game is for another genre, it will diminish the value in its second genre should you choose to place it there. Again, all my opinion too as well as the other judges. I'll justify all my decisions though.

Well, there goes my wait for Marvel vs Capcom 2 or SSF4 strategy on fighting games.

I'm making more lists now since my originals are getting thin. Its just ridiculous how many good games are out there.

Only racing and sports have that restriction. You got it.

yeah, my fighting games list was getting pretty low...fighting and FPS are two of the genres I never really got into... Just never really appealed to me...

I really wanted to wait on fighting games. I do have one on the list that's a sleeper, but I doubt there's many here that has played it. I know there's no judge yet, but it's possible they haven't played it either. I could take another that's more well known that I have played, but I probably didn't care for, but I wouldn't have liked that.

Oh, I'm not putting HL2 in puzzle games. It had great puzzle elements, and that's one of the things they were given awards for, but I know that wasn't the premise of the game.

Madshot, did you share my list while I was gone?
No, but it is getting destroyed. To be fair, all but one of "your list" was in my top 10 big board, so it hurts me to.
Well, there were only 5 picks til me. So I sent you a list of 5, just in case. My main list probably has over 500 games on it. Maybe I'll share what's left on it after the draft is over.

8.07 Burnout 3: Takedown (PS2) racing

Burnout 3: Takedown is an amazing achievement that anyone with a pulse will probably love. :)

"Burnout 3: Takedown has received critical acclaim since its release. IGN praised the gameplay, saying it is "instantly enjoyable and maddeningly addictive"

8.08 Yo Mama selects:

GlaDOS - Best Villain

As the only person/thing to interact with in Portal, she starts out seemingly to help you but ultimately reveals her true intentions in the end.

A quote from IGN:

"GlaDOS left a mark on players like no other villain has. What began as a simple and helpful AI guide through a series of tests slowly twisted into something malicious, terrifying and hilarious.

Despite her being almost entirely artificial, GlaDOS somehow manages to be more human than most villains in videogames. GlaDOS isn't overly logical or calculating or emotionless. She's spontaneous, passionate, vengeful, and completely unforgettable."

#1 of top 100 villains of all time per IGN

#1 character who defined a decade per Game Informer

Been waiting on this a couple rounds, but better take her now since all the other games on my short list keep getting sniped.
