Green Bay/Appleton WI - Things to do (1 Viewer)

My daughter's soccer team will be in Appleton this weekend for the midwest regional soccer tournament. She only has 1 game per day, so we're looking for things to do while there. We will be staying in DePere. Anyone have good areas to kill time or fun things to do?

TIA

It's nice to find a place where you don't have to fight through all of the crowds of tourists while in De Pere.

In Appleton there's Badgerland Sports Park which has mini-golf, go carts, laser tag, etc.

Funset Boulevard has an ok Arcade along with decent laser tag and a few other small rides.

The History Museum at the Castle has some cool stuff on Harry Houdini who grew up in Appleton.

In Green Bay, Lambeau Field is there. That is where the Green Bay Packers play during the NFL season. They might be practicing outside although you'll have to check with the local information people there. Lambeau is open all year so you can visit the gift shop, eat and tour the place. It is definitely a great place to go.

You already got the Lambeau recommendations....

If you have some time to kill, Bay Beach is a neat little amusement park. http://greenbaywi.gov/baybeach. Don't expect huge, death defying rides.

Just south of you in Oshkosh is the Experimental Aircraft Association. Very cool musuem.

Green Bay Bullfrogs Baseball. The Northwoods League games are a blast. I've hit several Madison Mallards games and they are good, fun entertainment.

Eat a bratwurst. And a sausage. And a cheese-filled brat. And kielbasa. Find a good knockwurst. Probably lots of summer sausage this time of year, too. Then get yourself some cheddar. Sharp. And some Colby. And Jack. Put some good old American right on a hot dog.

Wash it all down with a Sprecher's. Oh yeah, you betcha, good eatin' right there.
Two words: cheese curds

Fried cheese curds at any decent bar.

Houdini Museum as mentioned.

Other than some decent food...there isnt a while lot in Appleton/menasha area (where i grew up)

Bay Beach is fun and cheap and they did at least add a roller coaster. And Lambeau tour and Packer HOF are great. Eat at Krolls across the street...make sure your heart is ok cause the burgers are drowned in butter.

Not sure if anything else is going on at that time as there are quite a few "fests" that happen at different times.

Recommend Butch's pizza in Kimberly.

Tractor pulls in Mackville this weekend which is just down the road from Appleton if you're a redneck...and there's a strip bar across from the church that is hosting the tractor pulls....

A good restaurant is Houdinis in downtown Appleton by the river, another is Stone Cellar that has the best cheese curds and many beers to sample, both have very good food.

What type of things are you interested in/like to do, might help us guide you.

If anything please heed this warning, when driving through Racine County on I 94 go the speed limit. The whole interstate there is a speed trap. There are sheriff that hang out on overpasses and on exit ramps and entrance ramps. I live in the Racine area and they are heartless with the ticketing. If looking for a tourist trap on your drive Mars Cheese Castle in Kenosha has some very good overpriced cheese. Lastly, try to find a Kringle, either Apple, cherry or pecan, they are legal crack. Welcome to our great state.

Thanks for the Scray Cheese shop link - that place has crazy good prices and some excellent looking selections! I just paid over twice as much per pound through igourmet.
