Green Bay looking to trade up for....... (1 Viewer)

Just heard the local talk show host here in Sacramento that one of his trusted sources said that Green Bay is seriously involved in discussions to trade up in the draft to get Matt Leinart. He said that Mike McCarthy is not sold on Aaron Rodgers as their future QB. The trade up would involve Javon Walker.....I know it seems like a reach being from California but just thought I would share the info. He also said that if this happened that GB would be putting Rodgers on the trade block.

Thoughts?

Edit to add...the talk show hosts name was Grant Napear...

Grant Napear is pretty knowledgeable, from NY, not sure about his other ties but the guy usually doesn't talk outta his rear end so I could see some truth to this.

Obviously, Green Bay would be targeting the SF pick and would have to hope that Tennessee takes Young rather than Leinart. I don't think they have enough to go higher, and Oakland just might snatch up Leinart if he's there at 1.07.Color me doubtful.

Actually coming from him is the only reason I posted this. After listening to him for the last couple of years.

I know he isn't the type to just throw out rumors so if it is coming from him then he must have got it from a pretty reliable source.

They should be doing everything...and I mean EVERYTHING they can to get up and get Reggie Bush. The #5, Javon Walker, their #2 and a future #2. At least. Get 'er done.

Actually GB currently owns the 5th pick in the draft. So, maybe trading with NO to get ahead of Tennessee is a possibility to make sure they can land Leinart?

Huh? The Packers already are in front of SF.

As a Saints fan, I am loving the possibilities. The Walker deal makes sense. These teams were involved in another trade for a disgruntled player. The agent likes how the McKenzie deal turned out. I can see a deal happening. The Texans picking Bush just made the pot a lot richer though!

Color me tired and embarassed.....

Welcome back, Brett. Glad to have you back for one more year. And to get you the help for a last run at the playoffs, we've drafted a QB. Again!

They're not taking Bush.

Didn't Rodgers face Leinart twice in college, beating him once and damn near doing it twice despite having the inferior team both times?

Leinert will be available at #5. The packers do not need another Q.B. right now completely devaluing Favre and last years #1 pick. They also do not need a back. They need defense, offensive linemen, and receivers.

:goodposting: I still say it is either Hawk or Davis.

They just said on ESPN news (about 45 min. ago) that the Jets are trying to move up with NO, because the player the Saints really want is Hawk.

Rich Cimini, a pretty good local NY columnist, was on the radio doing a Jets pre-draft show, and he talked about the Aaron Rodgers situation. He said that the Packers "have figured out pretty quickly" that Rodgers is not the answer, and that they are not high on him. He said it like it was so not a big deal - more as though this was general knowledge round the league.

Personally I agree. The Packers will take Leinart if he falls to them, and assuming TENN is going for VY, a Jets trade for Bush seals Leinart to GB.

Are the Packers trying to be the Lions of QBs now?

2005 1st rounder -- Aaron Rodgers

2006 1st rounder -- Matt Leinart (?)

2007 1st rounder -- ???

I agree. If they draft another QB Favre might just retire anyway.......Hawk or Davis it is.
