Green Bay's House is Coming Down! (1 Viewer)

"Like we went into San Francisco and upset that house, Green Bay's house is comin down." said Nate Newton on Monday. Yes, the All Pro guard during those SB years long long time ago.

I was stunned. As you all know, I've been hittin the Cowboys Koolaid for some time now, since week 3's comeback against the Rams to be exact. I said to myself, wow, that's bold. How the hell can he feel that way given GB's history at home, the weather, and frankly, our defense although opportunistic isn't what you would call "Stingy" or beastly. They fly around and play with good technique most of time but we don't have All Pro corners. Nor do we have some dominate D line. Hell, we don't even have a healthy stable of All Pro linebackers. We don't have the defense they did. We don't have the RB they did.

Now I can tell you without hesitation that what you're seeing is a New Breed of Cowboys team. Decedents from Champions past. This 2014 version of the Cowboys has grit, talent, and a running game that travels. Hence, their 8-0 record on the Road.

Now we find ourselves on the precipice of football immortality but first, the Divisional Playoffs. Having to go into a Historic Stadium, in January, where perhaps the best offense in the land, led by perhaps the best QB in the land, scoring like Snoop Dog in a dispensary.

Now tell the truth, if I had told you before this season started that my beloved Cowboys would be 12-4, win the division by pummeling the Eagles while going on a four game winning streak in the month of December behind one Tony Romo aka El Matador. The same Romo you all said couldn't get the job done. Then I go and tell you they would be going to Lambeau Field for the divisional playoffs.

You'd have called me.....well, you still do. Nonetheless, here we are. The Cowboys headed into the land of Cheeseheads to earn the right to move on and here I am to tell you how we do it.

What we do have is a disciplined, good tackling, young DL rotation, forging a defensive 11 that will fight you for 60 minutes. Hitch and McClain are playing about as solid as you can ask for as backers when they are on the field. We drafted Demarcus Lawrence to replace D Ware and up until last Sunday, the kid was sackless in both senses of the word up til Sunday. But to make that kind of blunder, then turn around and will his way to the QB in a redeeming Sack, Fumble, Recovery to end the game, shows not only SACK but just may be the spark that sets fire to this kid.

Then there is Spencer, who went through off-season microfracture surgery. Left for dead, he too is coming on and I saw the old Spence on the play that should have ended the game. Just in time for Green Bay's showdown, we have both our ends playing their best football of the year. Hummmmmmmmmm

As the cards would have it, Rodgers has a calf issue. That calf won't be healed completely which means he won't be his usual mobile self which makes him just a bit less deadly than he would normally be. That may just be what we need to get the job done. Make him move hard on it all game and pray he slows down some and stays put.

The key to winning this game is our offense being able to pound the football and keep Rodgers on the bench cold. Fortunately, that is exactly how this offense is built. Romo has proven to be as lethal as Rodgers this year.

What we do have is Offense. Between Dez, TW, Beasley and Witten, they are a hand full for any defense. Combine that with a QB the caliber of El Matador and voila, you have an Offense that can score on anyone.

Romo 34 TDs in 15 games.
Rodgers 38 TDs in 16 games.

completion %
Romo 69.9% which is ridiculous by the way.
Rodgers 65.6%

Romo leads the league in passer rating edging out Rogders by one point 113.2 to 112.2

But the tale of the tape does not tell us who will win. It only says that both QB's are at the top of their game.

The way we win this game is with our running game. We will run the football on GB's defense. If they can't stop it, the Cowboys can win this game. You have to admit, if the Cowboys running game is rollin GB will be calling Houston with more then just a problem.

Truth is, I feel better about this game then I did against the Lions. For the Lions have perhaps the best D line in football. GB not so much. In fact, they are vulnerable to a team that can run and boy oh boy can the Cowboys run the football. We ran on JJ Watt, 156 yards, we ran on Suh and GB has neither!

GB's lost to Seattle, Det, NO and Buff. Buffalo having the defense that can stop anyone, Det having the D Line to make a team one dimensional and N.O. having the offense to put up points, and SEA playing with both.

The ONLY loses the Cowboys have had is when Romo was hurt or didn't play period. When Romo is on the field and has 6 days to prepare, the Cowboys are undefeated.

On Sunday, Romo is going to play the game of his career and it's going to take one hell of an effort by the Packers to beat him. He has waited his entire career to be in a game just like this. Ironically, he will be going home. Romo will be going home to Wisconsin, where he grew up, rooting for Farve and the Packers on Sunday afternoons. Yet on Sunday he will be going back to title town with victory on his mind and redemption in his heart.

It just seems serendipitous that Romo is going to Green Bay for the divisional playoffs, with a team that no one expected to do anything, while having his best year of his career. McClain, Hitch and Carter should all be healthy and our DE's have found their stride.

Add this up. Rodgers gimpy, DE's coming on, Murray's hand healing, Romo playing like a Champion.

The only thing I have yet to figure out is how we cover the bevy of GB WRs with Cobb, and that bad a$$ white boy Jordy Nelson. Thing is, GB has the same problem. Thankfully they don't have a TE like Witten and we do.

I gotta tell you boys and girls, this game is going to be GREAT. I can't wait.

In order to steer clear of the whammy, I'm not going to make any predictions other than this. There are going to be a lot of points scored.

Love the passion, good stuff!

I like both teams, and would prefer either one to win the sb rather than sea.

You make a good argument, IF Dal can run the ball and keep Rodgers cooling on the sideline they have a good chance of winning. Much easier said than done and if push comes to shove I would have to put my money on the GB offense being a bit too much for the Dal D to handle; however, it wouldn't shock me to see the upset.

GL!

ok, hold on a minute OP..Rodgers 'gimpy'? I'll take Rodgers on one foot with one hand tied behind his back, in a playoff game at home, in freezing temps over Romo on his best day..look,Romo had a season where he's exorcised the demons, so to speak, and he's played amazingly well..but the fairy tale ends on sunday..if Dallas can't control the clock and run the ball and win the time of possession to the tune of 40~ mins, they have no shot at winning this ball game.GB's run D is considerably better at home than on the road.

did you hear Rodgers' coy remarks and replies to reporters asking about his calf ? he's BURNING up inside, this guy is ready to put on a show..he's itching to get at it..

Dallas was down 20-7 to the Lions, AT HOME.. the Detroit Lions for Pete's sake..in the history of the GB Packers , they're 16-5 @ home in playoffs, 14-5 at home with games played in GB( 2-0 in Milwaukee).

Dallas doesn't have the secondary to run with GB's receivers..they also don't have the run defense to stop Lacey.

I like your enthusiasm, but I just dont' see how Dallas has a glimmer of hope in this game..

Dallas won their Super Bowl last week. Very emotional win for them, and I think they will be spent emotionally.

GB, 30, Dallas 20

I have no dog in this fight, but I don't see Dallas winning this one....

You feel better about this game than against the Lions? Haha

Also point to your 8-0 road record but it's 2-0 with a bunch of junk wins as even Philli had played the Seahawks which usually means bad things for the week after. Eagles also lost the following week to a 1-7 down the stretch team in Washington....

Call it what you want but who exactly has Dallas played who can be dominate with the Pass and have a very high level rushing game? You played the shell of themselves Saints but other than that no one near the Packers level all season. Sure you beat Seattle but that is a completely different team than the Packers.

One other fun fact the Packers haven't punted in the first half in 5 games and only 6 total punts in those 5 games with Rodgers. Games include Patriots, Philli, Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta

The only way Dallas has any chance in this game is if they can get pressure on Rodgers with their front four. If they are forced to blitz to get to him, they will be torched by Rodgers all day. Nobody throws that quick pass better than Rodgers. His release time is just so fast that the blitz will never get there. I just don't see Dallas slowing Rodgers down whether he has a gimped leg or not. Detroit couldn't do it and they have a better front four than Dallas.

I expect this is the most interesting game of the weekend for neutrals, right? The history is great, and I think the result is up in the air. Dallas certainly can win this game. Home field advantage at Lambeau is overrated imo. I've been there for several playoff losses, including against Vick's Atlanta team many years ago, and two losses to the Giants. Expecting a good one.

Oh so can't wait for the Packers to shut these frauds down.
Not sure how you consider this Cowboys team frauds (putting aside your Eagles hate for a second). What they've done this year (particularly over the past month) has been extremely impressive. I don't think they beat GB at Lambeau but there is no shame in that. The Cowboys are one of the top 5 teams in the NFL this year.

That was my Eagles fan in me coming out. I'm certainly not disparaging what they've done. They're a good team that is hitting their stride. They've broken through the "8-8" and "Romo can't win playoff games" barrier. I absolutely respect that team but I also absolutely hate them. ;)

And I certainly respect that :hifive:

Lot of Cowboys hate in here, it seems. I don't know if they'll necessarily win, but I think it will be much closer than many people think. Sure, Green Bay blew out some bad teams at home this year... MIN (with Ponder at QB), CAR (when they were a different team than they are now), PHI (right after Foles went down), and CHI. None of those teams were any good, at least at the time when those games were played, so the perception that GB crushes teams at home is not exactly accurate. They barely beat the Jets at home (admittedly, it was Week 2, and I would say that GB is a different team than they were then, as well), and gave up 37 points to a bad Falcons team a month ago. They beat NE in a game that could have gone either way, and beat DET by 10 at the end of the year (in a game that was relatively close). If anything, I would say that GB tends to play good teams close at home, yet finds a way to win. But, I would be surprised if Dallas doesn't score at least 24-28 points on Sunday.

I don't think there is any question that Dallas will put up points. The question is whether or not they can outscore GB, obviously. Dallas has the better running game. I don't think that can really be debated. The main things that will determine the outcome of this game, in my mind, are will Rodgers be 100% (or at least close enough to 100% that he's not severely limited), and will GB be able to pressure/disrupt Romo. If they make Romo uncomfortable enough that he has a bad/mediocre game, it doesn't matter if Murray runs for 200 yards... Dallas won't win. But, if Romo is relatively well-protected, Dallas has a shot to at least keep it close.

Nobody that GB has played this year scores points like Dallas does. They've been in the 30's (or 40's) in 11 of 17 games this year. They've failed to reach 28 just four times (all of which they were still in the 20's). Any team that can give up 37 to the putrid Falcons should at least be somewhat concerned. Atlanta's offensive line, compared to that of Dallas, is like night and day. Take the Cowboys lightly, and they might get into a shootout that leaves them (the Packers) on the short end of the stick, so to speak.

My prediction is GB wins in a relatively high-scoring affair. Maybe not as high-scoring as it would be if the weather was better, but I think both teams will still find a way to reach the mid-20's at a minimum, with the winner more than likely in the 30's.

I'll say 31-27, with Romo committing a late turnover to seal the win. Of course, if that happens, the haters will continue to argue that he's no good, that he is a choke artist, etc.... even though he's probably a top-five candidate for league MVP this year.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be shocked if Dallas wins the game, either.

Dez celebrating like he won the Super Bowl after beating the Lions at home was odd to me. Good win but they were the favorites and should have expected to win.

Dallas was all out to win at home against a team worse than Green Bay. Now they have to play Green Bay on the road.

I agree that, on paper, Dallas has a much better line and running game than Green Bay. However, interesting stat to consider. Since November 1st:

- Murray, 187 carries for 791 yards, 4.2 ypc

- Lacy, 141 carries for 711 yards, 5.0 ypc

I might argue that Lacy is the fresher back and, possibly, the more physically imposing in the cold elements. Additionally, Murray is not far out from his hand surgery. I don't question his toughness....dude is a stud.....but he did show some signs of the hand still bothering him against Detroit.

I do think these teams match up well against each other overall and this could be one of the more quality matchups of what is typically the most exciting weekend in the NFL season. However, Dallas does not get a consistent pass rush, Green Bay can. While Romo has played perhaps his best football this season he showed some curious decision making against Detroit last week but didn't pay for it dearly. In Lambeau in January I'm not so sure he can play turnover-free football.

I think the difference in this game won't be either team's ability to stop the other's running game or passing game as much as it will be turnovers. My guess is Green Bay wins the turnover margin and thus wins the game.

GB 31, Dallas 20

Sabertooth said:
Murray's hand is going to hurt in the cold. He was favoring it last week for a while there on the sideline.
Murray is the key. If he can play at the pre-hand injury level, Dallas will hang with GB. This game should be a shoot out and fun to watch. (Since I was pretty much wrong with everything NFL this year, that likely means the final score is 14-10).

I'm looking at this game like we're playing on house money. The Cowboys have played beyond anyones expectations this season. I'm finally starting to warm on Red as a coach. And I think Jerrah is starting to understand that he needs to hire smart people and trust their assessments. Of course his ego will still spin it so he gets credit. Just sign the checks Jerry.

I here ya, but I must say things seem to be ominously for the Packers leaning our way. For example, the temp in Dallas is dropping into the twenties, while the temps in GB are climbing into the teens and are projected to be in the twenties by game time. Serendipitous? Maybe, but this Cowboys team has been playing great hard nosed football for 5 weeks now, which reminds me of a movie qoute "Every minute I stay in this room I get weaker. And every minute

Charlie squats in the bush he gets stronger." As much as an advantage it is to have a bye, there is also something to a routine of playing good football week in and week out. While the Cowboys were fighting tooth and nail last week, GB was practicing and didn't get to sharpen their edge against an opponent. The closer we get to this game, the better I feel and the more confident I am we are going to play good football Sunday.

Bold #1: you minimized them beating the AFC #1 seed and then minimized them beating the Lions by 10 when Dallas just beat them by 4.

Bold #2: Points scored: Philly 474, NE 468, Dallas 467.

I have no problem with your prediction, just some of your supporting rationale.

The only thing I have yet to figure out is how we cover the bevy of GB WRs with Cobb, and that bad ### white boy Jordy Nelson.

Win or lose, Cowboyz1, you have stuck to your word that you will be talking trash about your Cowboys. I admire your tenacity.

I like your enthusiasm! Haters be damned!

That said, I don't expect us to win this game, but I know its possible. The Packers are playing some dam good football.......And so are the Cowboys, but its in Lambeau, and Rodgers is incredible. We have to get pressure on him early in the game. And we have to run the ball effectively. That's our only shot. If our offense stalls and Rodgers is on the field a lot, we're in for a long game.

How bout the Cowboys!!

I don't think either team stomps on either team. I agree with you that Dallas will likely play some very good football Sunday. Side by side, though, even on neutral ground I think Green Bay is the slightly better team. Toss in homefield advantage and it makes sense GB is an almost touchdown favorite.

Consider the following -

1) Everyone talks about GB having a weak defense against the run. I get that. But, since the bye week (when they moved Clay Matthews to ILB) they have actually averaged giving up only 86.4 yards rushing per game. That's an 8 game stretch during which they held 4 teams under 100 yards and gave up a high of 113. During the same span the GB offense has averaged 142 yards rushing per game. I do still give the edge to Dallas' rushing attack versus the GB defense but I don't think GB's rush defense is as bad as people think. Furthermore, Dallas' rushing offense isn't exactly stratospheres above GB's rushing offense. The Packers can run the ball and control the clock too.

2) Green Bay has a +11 differential in sacks by the defense compared to sacks given up. This defense doesn't get the credit it deserves for the pressure it can apply to opposing offenses and, as great as Dallas' o-line is in the running game they are very good, but not great, in the passing game. Dallas, on the other hand, struggles to apply a consistent 4-man rush

3) Green Bay has a +14 turnover differential.

Much respect to Dallas - they have had a really fantastic year and play some really great football. But I just don't see them knocking off this Green Bay side. As far as I can see, these are the only ways Dallas wins:

1) Aaron Rodgers re-injures his calf and is extremely limited (like he was in New Orleans after tweaking his hamstring) or can't finish the game

2) Dallas causes turnovers but doesn't commit any of their own

3) Dallas plays a PERFECT game and holds the Packers to field goals in the red zone

I am fairly new here but anyone who knows me anywhere on the net knows Cowboyz1 always shows up win or lose.

My mantra has always been, "Win if you can, lose if you must" but always talk $hit.

It's only fun when you're here regardless. Makes no sense to hide when you lose, only shows you're weak and can't take it. I which case you can't dish it out either and be taken seriously. Can't wait for Monday win or lose.

The thing that makes this game so #######g awesome is that neither team has face the likes of each other this season. Dallas has not faced a team this year that has the caliber of Offense in Green Bay (NO was close but no) and Green Bay has yet to face the running game behind a line like ours plus a QB that can match their own. These two teams make for one hell of a great match up. I just wish I could fall asleep and wake up Sunday Morning. The suspense is killing me.

The Cowboys are going to get pounded. They squeeked out a home win against a siv of a franchise that basically handed them the game. Not going to happen in GB.

Blowout coming.

34-20. Late meaningless Dallas td.

Not a fan of either team but the Cowboys barely beat Detroit. Then they think they are going into GB and destroying the Packers? Good luck

I don't know what will happen this game, but how does barely beating Detriot mean they will get killed by Green Bay?

Didn't say they were going to get killed by Green Bay. Just said Good luck "Destroying the Packers" in their own stadium.

I didn't see anyone saying the Cowboys were going to "destroy" the Packers. As long as Rodgers is playing, I don't think anyone is "destroying" them.

All I know is, I'm stoked for the game! And I hope the Cowboys show up and make a game out of it.......And Go Panthers!!

I'm looking forward to this one as well. I'd like to see whoever wins come out of this game healthy. They are going to need it in Seattle next week.

Booger McFarland on nfl radio just pointed out that "brothers don't like cold". But he also pointed out that there were "brothers" on both teams, so he didn't believe the weather would impact one team more than the other. Unexpected analysis.

Who is Booger McFarland? Green Bay has a suprising number of white dudes starting on offense at least. I think 7. As a white man myself I can assure you that they are prepared, smart, handsome, and hate the ####### cold just as much as a brother.

Why would anyone care about what a guy named "Booger" has to say?
