Greg Jones injured (1 Viewer)

Saw the play. He was lowering down to take on a tackler and the tackler ended up taking him low. He was on his left leg in his stride and luckily his cleat wasn't stuck in the grass. It look like a mild hyperextension, but, could have easily been SO much worse.

I was glad to see the replay showed his shoe wasn't planted..

Maybe the lil fellow will get a chance to shine this year.
Dude is not a lil' fellow, although I read some possible sarcasm in your words. I happen to like Jones a lot which is why I'll go to the trouble of quoting the 2004 Pro Football Weekly Draft Guide, "Powerful between the tackles runner who picks up a lot of yardage after contact and can wear down defenses. Tough, competitive workhouse back with deceptive3 speed and outstanding size. Naturally very strong with thick legs. ......... Would rather run over than around defenders. Chiseled like a Roman god. Improved his stock with a dominating, tackle breaking, game day performance and strong week of practice at the Senior Bowl.... Has powerful, Earl Campbell type legs that don't stop on contact."I think he could be a Pro Bowl back on a team like the Steelers or a team that suits his type of game. However, the knee injury was serious, "missed final four games of 02' with a torn right ACL and injured MCL..... Missed spring drills in 03' while rehabbing after knee surgery. ........Powerful, athletic runner whose knee was not fully healed after reconstructive knee surgery and who did not look like the same runner as a senior. May be only a two-down back in the NFL and is most ideal for a run dominant offense. Similar to Jamal Lewis."Perhaps your "lil' fellow" was meant to knock his overall talent rather than his size, you're saying he's not good.Anyways, the knee injury in college was to his RIGHT leg. Which knee was hit tonight? Any guesses from those who saw it as to the severity? You knew right away McGahee's hit was gruesome.... Speculate if you saw it... it might be all we can go on for those of us drafting tomorrow.

You're not the sharpest tool in the shed, I was talking about Maurice Drew.

Or duh, maybe you're talking about Maurice Jones-Drew-Jackie-Joyner-Kersee and the other midget, Alvin Pearman. I've still yet to understand how the Jags spent a 4th rounder on Pearman in 2005 and then a 2nd rounder on Drew in 2006 when they are essentially the same type of player. Small, quick running backs with receiving and return skills. Maybe they forgot they had Pearman on the roster.  Seems like they could have drafted a stud O lineman or another 6-5 WR with that pick.

Simultaneous posts, I realized who you were talking about. I still think I might be smarter than the Jags front office though. See above post. Sorry, my mind is melting from too much draft prep tonight crammed in before tomorrow.

Hopefully this helps with drafts tomorrow and beyond, from ESPN.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars probably will have to start the season without leading tackler Mike Peterson and fullback Greg Jones.

The team's middle linebacker and emotional leader sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee Saturday night against Tampa Bay and likely won't be ready for the season opener Sept. 10 against Dallas.

Jones, a starting fullback who also splits carries with running back Fred Taylor, sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee. It was the opposite knee Jones injured during his final season at Florida State.

"Really good news considering what it could have been," coach Jack Del Rio said. "The thought is that they should be back sometime during the Dallas week, ready for the opener."

Peterson hurt his knee on Tampa Bay's opening drive. He left the game, went to the locker room for tests and did not return. He walked out of the stadium on crutches but was clearly disappointed.

"I don't know, man," Peterson said when asked about his return. "I don't know."

Peterson led the team in tackles during each of his first three seasons in Jacksonville. He had a career-high 190 tackles and six sacks last year. He also had three interceptions, including one for a touchdown.

Now, someone please explain to me how a writer can put his own interpretation on this when it's clearly not what the coach said? Man, that's annoying.

I'll never forget seeing Jones at FSU running along the sidelines, and instead of allowing himself to get pushed out or veer out of bounds intentionally, he threw his shoulder into the oncoming safety (forgot against which team) absolutely crushing the would be tackler. He ran with bad intentions, moreso than anyone else I've seen.

perhaps the reporter is a good journalist who did research and determined healing from t his injury in less than 2 weeks is not realistic, while del rio is just putting a positive spin on things?

Not that I'm saying those reports are wrong, but how in the world did Jacksonville already get an MRI done when you can't even get an injury report this fast in the regular season. I don't think I've ever seen an MRI done on Sunday...

Are there more hospitals open on Saturday so they were able to get it done, or are these reports pre MRI?

some teams have a MRI machine at the stadium.

I also like the one where he ran over some blabber mouthed named Sean Taylor.

Sean Taylor =

thats a good one. i also like when sean taylor used FSU as his ##### for 4 years.

Well, they have money, so they can probably get alot of things done quickly. However I think we should be asking "WHY did they get it done so quickly, when generally you should wait a few days for an MRI due to better test results.

More hospitals open on Sat? Hospitals are always open, only the staff inside will change. The reason that many times you won't see MRI's done right away is that often times, they will wait for the swelling to go down. Maybe he didn't have a lot of swelling. But hell, don't some of these teams have their own MRI machines in stadium now? I think ARI does in their new pad, and I know I saw another team that had brought one in as well.

I didn't read every post, so sorry if this has already been posted -

The AP reports Greg Jones sprained his MCL during Saturday's game.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio indicated Jones would most likely be ready for Week 1. Jones may have an opportunity to take the starting tailback job from Fred Taylor at some point during the season, so he'll need to stay healthy. He had 24 yards on six carries before the injury.

that's a huge relief. only a few weeks recovery for MCL injuries nowadays. hopefully it isn't a severe sprain. any video on the hit available?
