4/45/1 7/80/0 in the past 2 weeks.
Slot WR in the Indy offense is a interesting position to seek out. (20 teamer for me, picked him up a few weeks ago)

Not saying it IS Whalen, but now is the time to pick someone like this up, hoping he runs away with his opportunity as the #3 in Indy.

Good idea for a thread. The guy played more snaps than Rogers AND Hilton last week . . .

As a 48 year Colts homer I can tell you that Whalen will never be fantasy worthy. Yes, he will have a couple of moments, but that's it. You need to focus on Hilton and Rogers instead.

I personally like Whalen, he's the kind of guy you need to monitor the amount of snaps he gets assuming Reggie Wayne comes back healthy. But yeah, he and Luck played together in college and he definitely has the ability to make plays from what I've seen.

The Quarterback usually makes the Receiver and not the other way around. In PPR, he should definitely be on your radar.

As a 29 year Colts :homer: here is what I saw in camp:

-He catches everything

-He runs good routes which finds gaps in the zone

-He is very strong and fights off the DB on 1st contact

Now, does that make him fantasy worthy? Only if he continues to get the opportunity. He is a capable slot WR. Not overly fast but more shifty.

When pizzatyme talks, you listen. Definitely going to snag this guy in every PPR League I'm in next year based on these comments. I think he's pretty much going to take away Colby Fleener's role, Andrew Luck makes Fleener look SO GOOD. I mean Fleener is definitely above average, but this Whalen guy seems pretty crafty and could pull off a decent Welker impression.

Fleener was a disappointment this season. I think his role will be diminished greatly when Dwayne Allen returns.

I'd temper my enthusiasm for any of these guys until we see how the off-season shapes up. If Pep Hamilton stays as OC then I'd pump the brakes.

That said, in a dynasty format, Whalen has to be pretty cheap.

didn't Whalen get cut multiple times and put on the practice quad multiple times? You think he has more value than Hilton and Rogers? What about when and if Wayne comes back? Is his best outlook #4 WR and #5 or #6 behind Fleener and Allen? How much upside is attached to that?

JohnnyU, on the whole I agree with you. But to say "never" is too strong IMO. It's all about opportunity. I mean Edelman is a good example. So is Riley Cooper.

There are plenty of examples in the league of good players with very good numbers.

Rogers AND Whalen could both be good in this offense.

Yeah I'd gamble on Rogers-Hilton way before Whalen. He seems like one of those guys they'll be looking to upgrade sooner rather than later.

He's been mentioned before here by at least three Colts fans. Shouldn't the Colts be trying to develop 2-3 good WRs?

It was a different thread but another poster suggested starting him at flex and it paid off.

Sounds like he falls more into the "safety valve" category, but I have seen him only at a glance while watching the occasional Indy game this year. I can't remember what game it was but I kept looking for Rogers and they kept showing Whalen.

He was originally with Cincy.

Ryan Whalen was/is with Cincy. Griff signed with Indy as a free agent after going undrafted.

He's absolutely worthy of consideration. The Colts, despite what many posters think, do not have a clearly defined wr1 at this time. With Luck pulling the trigger, any candidate to earn significant snaps merits further discussion.

I'm not saying he will become a go to guy, but there is not a clearly defined wr pecking order right now, so there's a low cost opportunity presenting itself.

Derius Heyward Bey is not the most appealing WR to watch, lmao.

I think its almost safe to say that Whalen has stepped in and took over the Slot WR job opportunity!

Hopefully he comes to play in the playoffs, because we may have a low cost, if not FREE agent to pick up before next season comes around. Our FA in my 20 team dynasty league just closed this week. I was luck to grab Whalen/T. Underwoon (earlier this season)/J. Hemingway/Bostick up.

Hopefully some guys pan out.

I really like what I am seeing in Whalen, and the opportunity....Team,QB, and WR he is in competition with)
