Gronk/Chandler owners (1 Viewer)

starks

Footballguy
Full disclosure, I own both...but I don't think this is a WSIS thread since a lot out there own either one or both going into a crucial week.

Rob Gronkowski (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday Night Football against the Texans.
Scott Chandler (knee) is also questionable after being limited in practice all week. Gronk did not practice on Wednesday, but returned for "limited" sessions on Thursday and Friday. Following Friday's practice, Gronkowski avoided questions regarding his Week 14 availability. It seems like Gronk is headed for a game-time decision. We would expect Chandler to play.
Problem is it's the 8:30 pm game.

Gronk owner - Are you going to roll the dice with a late game or play you TE2?

Chandler owner - Gronk looming, are you checking out the wire in 10-12 team leagues?

Own both...

1) Drop Chandler for safer 1pm or 4pm on wire and hope you survive and advance.

2) Wait and Gronk active but as a decoy so do you play Chandler?

3) Wait Gronk not active and start Chandler with confidence.

I would be shocked if Gronk played this week and suspect he will be inactive. I think Chandler will play without limitations. I don't see NE not playing Gronk and Chandler. They have limited receiving options as it is, I don't see how they can take a zero at TE this week.

Pats have to win this game to control strength of victory. That being said there shouldn't be a real concern they lose this game... Philly aside - they should be fine without him.

But if Gronks good to go, why not?

To the question in the OP, if you own both start Gronk if hes healthy.

If you own Chandler, start him either way and don't worry about it. He will have a big enough role going forward.

For those that dont own Chandler or Tye, look at the Texans Griffin. He has TDs his last two games.

So you wouldn't feel safe starting a 1pm option?

No. I have both and I'm playing one or the other. If Gronk is active, he's in no matter how limited a snap count. If not--Chandler without hesitation. In another league, I have Gronk only but have Julius. I'm starting him but not sure many others have that luxury.

This has been discussed ad nauseam in the 3 other major Gronk threads if you did a little reading....

I think Chandler is completely fine and Gronk is still a week away. Bill just messing with the injury report.

I have both. If neither play I will be grabbing Tye, Griffin or Cameron vs the 1pm options. It's worth the wait for Gronk and if Chandler sits too then oh well it wasn't meant to be. Hope to get a good performance from Tye.

I am fairly confident Chandler will play. The Pats often list players as questionable to try to confuse people. Amendola is also listed as questionable like he was last week, but I have not seen anywhere that he won't be playing. I slot Chandler in the same category. On the other hand, I don't think Gronk will play. He skipped the full pads practice this week and didn't fully participate in the other practices when NE was in shells. Gronk and his family have had issues with the Pats rushing him back over the years, so I just don't see NE rushing him back this week without a full week's of practice. Much more likely to play next week.

It seems like Chandler and/or Gronk would play. The Pats only have two other active TE on the roster if both sit and you never heard of either of them.

Asante Cleveland was recently promoted and I think has played like 5 snaps? Williams is an offensive linemen convert, he's essentially a seventh linemen/inline blocking TE.

They've been putting Cameron Fleming in as a 6th linemen quit often.

Chandler and Gronk are it pretty much.

I own Gronk (but not Chandler) in a deep 16-team man's league with a 4-man bench. As such I have little room to finesse around a late game surprise Gronk activation despite fielding a roster that literally has 3 potential options for inserting a Tight End into my active lineup.

I entertained benching Ware or Seferian-Jenkins but can't given the strength of their respective matchups. I entertained swapping out Landry for Gronk if Jarvis was tagged as Questionable after Miami's Saturday practice (he's listed as Probable). The utility belt of backup tight ends doesn't include Tye or Cameron in this league. Only Ryan Griffin remains in play.

My entire lineup draws 1pm starts as well so gameflow won't be able to dictate my decision. I'll have one slot remaining in my active lineup after the early games and right now it's filled by Landry. To free up another, I would have to bench one of Ware (not happening), Seferian-Jenkins (against a Saints team that has yielded double-digit fantasy points to opposing tight ends in each of their last 4 games) or Marvin Jones (whom I would lean towards the most). Not sure that's worth the gamble of limited snaps of Gronk although a bench spot would potentially open up after the early games to grab Griffin as insurance should I entertain benching Jones.

Those that have both. Gronk traveled with the team. He may play a limited snap count. If he does.

Do you play Gronk. Red zone only

Chandler

Or grab a Tye

Red Zone and limited snaps for Gronk if anything at all...Its the Texans...right? Won't need him much, if any. Titans next week will be a head game as well, just Pats mind games as usual.

Injury did not look like a bone bruise to me, and neither did it to Gronk at the time, he freaked out.

Any ligament strain is 4-6 weeks. Why chance it? They will get the division at the very least without him.

Maybe because they want a 1st round bye and everyone thought Philly was an easy win last week right ?

If Gronk can play he plays

For those of you that can start either Gronk or Chandler, if we know he will play a limited # of snaps, do you still start him? I will, but wanted to hear from others. I'm guessing limited snaps means red zone opportunities and definite passing situations

The Boston Globe reports Rob Gronkowski (questionable, knee) is expected to play Sunday night against the Texans.
It confirms a report by FanDuel's Will Carroll, who wrote Gronkowski will be "checked in warmups" and "used in limited situations." Gronkowski reportedly looked "fine" in two limited practices this week. There likely won't be anything official on Gronk's status until Sunday night, so owners still need to have a fallback plan in place. If Gronk is indeed able to play, the fantasy outlook for Tom Brady will improve significantly.

So those of us that own both Gronk and Chandler have a decision.

1) Drop Chandler for safer option elsewhere and play over Gronk.

2) Play Gronk in his limited snaps and hope for paydirt.

I am leaning picking up someone else and just hope I can play Gronk next week in simi.

I own Gronk. Can't do it. Gotta go with one of my other two options in the 1pm time slot.
I own Gronk in a TD heavy league with Kelce in as of now. I may roll the dice with Gronk and risk a 0? He could get a score or two and 50 yards? Kelce is so hit or miss?

If Gronk plays, how can you sit him? They are saying "limited snaps", but if the game is close, they may keep him in there. I'd rather lose starting Gronk, as opposed to starting a guy like Griffin or Tye. I'd go Kelce, but the weather report in KC looks terrible and they shouldn't need to throw much

Owning both and have a bye. Do you feel comfortable dropping Chanlder now or holding onto him for insurance?

Given Gronk's injury history, I'd hold. Chandler is a TE1 if Gronk is out
That's what I'm thinking. Want to add a WR but may have to drop someone else.

Don't what to get left scrambling last minute if Gronk doesnt play or gets re-injured.

The Patriots won't bring Gronk back as a decoy. If he's healthy he's playing
Do you mean, "if he's playing, he's healthy"?

Is a refusal to use "decoys" one of the Pats' philosophies and principles? I seriously have no idea.

I would think that you can't rely upon anything in this situation - snaps or health.

My sentiments exactly!!
I kinda disagree. His presence causes mismatches elsewhere and it was already clear earlier this year that NE was trying to minimize his injury exposure (removing him in the second half of games, reducing his targets a bit) because Gronk plays full throttle and thus can't be counted on to protect himself. It's part of what makes him great, but it's also what makes him injury prone. Given this news I'd be shocked if Chandler didn't get at least one TD tonight and 4-5 catches. Am I confident Gronk will do the same on limited action? Not really. FWIW it's not that I think Gronk isn't healthy enough to play, it's just that I think NE will protect him from himself as much as possible between now and the playoffs.

My gut is that Gronk plays situationally only. Redzone and major third downs. Chandler may still be the between the 20s guy.

Gronk 3-35 (possible TD)

Chandler 4-50 (possible TD)

NE needs this game but they also know they go nowhere without a 100% Gronk in the playoffs.

I own Chandler and will still probably start him or Ryan Griffin if Gronk goes.

At this point it's a total crapshoot, but if I'm going down, it's with an active Gronk in my lineup. All he needs is a limited number of looks in the redzone

Further muddying it for me, I go against Brady and James White. I have Amendola going as well. All play can make for some crazy games sometimes.

I smell a lot of people will be in here at about 9pm angry talking about how they are eliminated because Gronk was active but didnt play. Bill is king of mind games, do not get bit when it matters most.

I rather lose playing a better option than hoping. Good owners do whats best for their team, not just play players because they are active.

Picked up Will Tye NYG in case neither can go that way you might get some points on Monday night
