Grossman's Mechanics (1 Viewer)

OK, I couldn't watch as closely as I wanted with the party going on and all.....but....

I thought Grossman was at least supposed to be able to throw the long ball. Instead, he throws off his back foot or worse, doesn't step into any throws (without pressure even). Underthrown balls, picks.

His mechanics were horrible.......

I saw him play some decent games this year, with some good zip at times, but bad Grossman was back with an attitude. How do you keep this guy for next year knowing he STINKS!

I agree about his mechanics. I kept my party limited to a small group of hardcore football fans, and we were rewinding a lot of his throws and shaking our heads at his mechanics. The 2nd interception he stepped into the throw at least, but had no follow through at all, and I imagine that contributed heavily to why he underthrew the receiver. There was also no reason he couldn't follow through, there wasn't anyone in front of him making him pull up short and he wasn't under any pressure.

I think the bigger issue with Grossman is decision making. He continually forces the ball down the field and does not check down often enough and take the esay completion. Sometimes you just have to be patient and move down the field in 5-7 yard chunks. His interceptions were a result of his tendency to look for the long pass down the field. The Colts clearly knew this from studying film, as they anticipated where the ball was going. The interception returned for a TD was the best example of this. The DB absolutely knew the ball was being thrown to a spot, made the read, and broke on the ball like he was the receiver. Grossman got away with this for the first several weeks of the season, but once defenses adjusted to take this away, Grossman contined to force the ball into coverage. Until he changes this alarming tendency, he will have have interception totals and the Bears will be stuck with their defense on the field for far too long.

I have not been a Grossman supporter all year but I am interested to hear what people think his future will hold. I have not seen him play a lot but my assumption is that he has the ability to be a good NFL QB (He had a lot of games with a very high QB rating) but he still does not have a lot of experience and plays a lot of bad games too. Who thinks he will develop into a solid QB and who thinks he will be nothing more than a poor starter/career backup in the NFL?

Until Grossman learns to check down, consistently complete short to intermediate routes, and sustain drives, I see him as a lower third of the NFL (21-32) rated QB. He needs to stop making the same mistakes, like forced balls into coverage downfield, in order to move upward in the rankings. He strikes me as being very stubborn about shooting the ball downfield.
