No link, take it for what it is. I can't say I'd frown on the move, as he would replace Galloway as the deep threat WR next year and on.

Any Raiders homers have word on what Davis is asking? Have they even allowed him to seek a trade? I was not aware of any of this.

What compensation would seem fair? Shell doesn't seem to want him.

The problem is with the CAP Money. The Raiders take a $13 Mil cap hit if they cut or trade him. He isnt going anywhere.

That's what I thought. How about after the year?I can definitely see Gruden bringin him in next year.

Strange.

I was always under the impression Porter felt like Gruden was holding him back when Gruden was in OAK. Anyone else remember it that way?

Well then he certainly wouldn't like the WR3 role Gruden has planned for him.

Not quite $13 Mil kbleck, but still a BIG number.
Cutting Porter would be so satisfying to a lot of folks in the organization, but his salary-cap acceleration, $6.45 million toward the 2007 total, would be a killer.

Porter was Gruden's golden boy while in Oakland, and Gruden took a very special interest in his development. I certainly don't remember him resenting Gruden. But that was 4 years ago so I certainly could be wrong.

Would like to see his contract numbers (damn NFLPA)... then we could gauge what OAK might be thinking.

Agreed. I always thought it was the injuries that held him back :blackdot:

49ers | Team might have an interest in Porter

Fri, 28 Jul 2006 06:47:32 -0700

Kevin Lynch, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports the San Francisco 49ers could be interested in Oakland Raiders WR Jerry Porter, but they don't believe Porter will be available because of the salary cap ramifications for Oakland if they released or traded him.

I remember it quite well. Gru was always pissed about Jerry's goofing off and seeming lack of focus and work ethic. Porter even noted it during his mini break out year during the Superbowl run with Callahan.Turns out Porter doesn't deal well with any type of authority. He needs to go back to a pansy coach like Turner and wither his career away in annonimity (Joey) despite his immense physical gifts.

He seems to be a punk who needs to grow up. I doubt Gru wants any part of him, especially at the cost of a high draft pick and signficant cap dollars.

Pretty much how I remember it too LawFitz. However, I don't think Gruden is terribly worried about the cap dollars the Raiders will be on the hook for.

Now the draft pick it would cost to get Porter, that's a different story.

Gruden / Bucs probably won't give what Al is likely asking.

The report apparently says Gruden is interested in Porter, not that Porter is necessarily interested in playing for Gruden.

Jerry Porter's "problem" is that he is arguably good enough to deserve his money, but not near good enough to have the luxury of running his mouth, particularly when he's never been the determinent on winning anything.

Colin,

Is Porter at the stage of NFL seniority, where he can 86 trades if it's a destination not to his liking?

Maybe I'm a moron, but I didn't think there was a rule in the CBA that had to do with that like there is in baseball. *as a side, I could be a moron for other reasons too.

Big Al wants 2 #1 draft pick for Porter. Seeing that Shaun Alexander couldn't fetch one 2nd rounder, I'd think it might be tough for Al to get two 1sts for Porter.

Was thinking that was the reason the Jets couldn't trade Abraham to Seattle, despite the Seahags offering a better draft pick than the Falcons?Maybe I've got my wires crossed.

You should probably note the source of that information. That was Jerry Porter's take on the status of trade talks. I wouldn't take a quote from a tool who showed up at camp with a fake injury and a fake championship belt and assume that is what Al is going for.

I never saw anything but harsh feelings between Porter and Gruden."Some Raiders, like Jerry Rice, loved Gruden. "He's similar to Bill Walsh," Rice said, invoking the name of his first, and beloved, coach with the 49ers. "But life is about choices."

Others, like Jerry Porter, were glad to see him go. "It was confrontation after confrontation with him, and I was always getting mad," he said."

A player can't nix a trade.JA refused to sign an extension with the Seabags. Thus the seabags didn't want him. They wanted him as long as he'd sign a deal. As you said, they were offering more. But that all was contingent on JA signing an extension. JA agreed in principle with the Falcons, and he stuck to his guns that ATL was the only team he'd sign an extension with.

That's the way I remember things between Porter and Gruden.... As far as I remmeber, Porter had a pretty solid location in Gruden's dog house..
