Both come out in October this year.

Guitar Hero has a new guitar playing system.

Rock Band has similar instruments but updated technology with them.

Guitar Hero has just a guitar.

Rock Band will cost more than $250 with all of the instrument updates (drum set add-ons).

The original tease on RB was that it would be able to use PS3 instruments. Very disappointed if its true that the game will require all new equipment. The setlist for GHL isn't anything I would be interested in, so I voted RB, although, I will have to see the restrictions on DLC because if I can't play half the songs I already have, I have no interest in dropping $250 on it.

Rock band is great to bust out after a night of drinking with friends, does Guitar Hero offer anything similar? (I think Band Hero tried too late).

That plus my 300+ current songs = RB for me.

Rock Band easily. I have so many songs that import it's not funny. But I've read that the two play completely different from each other this time, so I definitely recommend trying Guitar Hero somewhere down the line. And to answer Northern Voice, no, Guitar Hero is Guitar only this time around just like the original games.

According to Harmonix, you can still use your existing instruments. New instruments are in development for those that either are new to the series or sold off their old instruments. I still have my old ones, but my drum set is shot. I definitely need the full band kit.
