Guppy League, too much RB strength (1 Viewer)

I recently drafted in a 12-team guppy league that overvalues quarterbacks and undervalues running backs. I drafted 5 strong backs, then picked up Thomas Jones on the WW (yes, someone actually cut him). Now I have 4 top RBs and 2 backups who should see lots of work(S Jackson, Bush, Cadi, TJones, Morency, Barber III). I can start 3 of those each week. How do you guys handle excess RB depth? Do you actively shop them to strengthen positions of weakness, sit back and wait for someone to make you an offer, or horde them (hehehe he said horde) to cover for injuries/byes and keep them off other teams?

I find in guppy leagues, owners are often very reluctant to trade. They will not see your surplus of RBs, but rather the fact that you have "nobody" at QB or WR or whatever position you are looking to upgrade.

Be prepared to have to likely have to take less than value for your RBs, which ultimately will be worth it.

Finally, I'd move quickly, as I'm not sure what kind of league you have, if its people you know or what, but if some of the owners are first timers and stink it up for a month or two, they might lose interest and not even respond to trade requests.

Best to make your move while everyone's hopes are still sprining eternal.

Sooo, you have 3 starters (S-Jax, Cadi, T. Jones) and 3 backups that will get decent RB 3-4 stats. If I were you I'd trade Bush since he's overhyped and pick up whatever you need help at. I'm sure even guppies would be chomping at the bit to get Bush.

I'm stuck in the same situation...some of my buddies finally decided they wanted to do a league this year too and I ended up with LT, Westbrook, Chester, KJ, Dillon, Jamal Lewis, DeAngelo.

Not sure what to do with all those backs, seems like the guys I'd want to deal (Chester, KJ, Dillon, Jamal) have very little value in their eyes despite the fact taht some of them are stuck starting guys like Tatum Bell as their #2 RB.

I am in the same situation. I have been playing FF for 9 years and this is my first guppy league...I feel like I am starting all over again.

I also have six starting RBs in a ten team league and my WRs are decent, but certainly not great. I have tried to move the Fosters, Gores and Lundys of the world, but the fact of the matter is, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHO THEY ARE or else they would have taken them themselves. Personally, I am going to stand pat rather than give up a Rudi Johnson for a Marvin Harrison. I could certainly coast by with Mike Bell and Lundy as my RB3 and 4, but I would rather have them suffer with terrible RBs for a couple of weeks and then eventually come around to a trade that is market value.

I'm a running back wh0re

League 1=L.T./S.Jackson/D.Foster/F.Gore/C.Brown/C.Benson

League 2=L.T./W.Dunn/F.Gore/J.Lewis/M.Bell/F.Taylor/W.Lundy/M.Turner

League 3=T.Barber/B.Westbrook/L.Jordan/C.Taylor/A.Green/D.Rhodes

League 4=S.Jackson/R.Johnson/F.Gore/A.Green/L.Maroney/M.Turner/V.Morency(will be dropped)

I like to sit steady until I actually see some of these guys run... feel free to give it at least 2 weeks. Time to see who isn't panning out and then trading out of or into situations where other owners panic.

Are you really weak in another area of your team that you need to trade now? You're strong and deep at RB, but you don't have that much horespower. You have Jackson and Cadillac, and 4 RBs that will be splitting time with someone. If I were you, I'd hold on to what you have and see what happens... unless you're truly weak somewhere else. If you are, you probably screwed yourself by going RB-happy.

<relevanthijack> In what appears to be a guppy league that my BIL enlisted my assistance in, we landed McNabb, Hasslebeck,cGreen @ QB and LJ, Brown, Parker and Foster @ RB. We ended up with Holt, Evans, Glenn and picked up Williamson on the WW. It's a start 3 WR league where it appears stud WR's score on a parallel with the top of second tier QB's...

Trade offers to QB lite teams have been meant with "silent" declines- no counter offer, comments- nada! Like thecoolnamesarealltaken suggested- do you sit on your strengths early in a league like this and wait to see who suffers early, or do keep banging your head against the wall with different combos in attempt to "help" other teams address their weakness'?

Guppies who are 0-3 are much more motivated to deal than those who are 0-0.

Let the season unfold.

What are you looking for, a better QB or a better WR?I think you could wait a couple of weeks to see how this shakes out but since you're the shark you will be able to do more with less in terms of "who to start". You can play with RB2's and win because you know which one's to start where guppies do not. At some point you might want to put up your RB1 in exchange for what you really want (QB or WR) and then you'll have to play the matchups with your RB2's. In the mean time research strength of schedule to decide which WR/QB you want and when your guys are probably going to go off or get cold.

TE is Gates, but I have no backup now. WR are Coles, Michael Clayton, D Mason, T Williamson, Cedric Wilson, Bobby Engram...I could use a bit of an upgrade there, but it's not tragic. QBs are Brees and Brooks. QBs are very overvalued in our league, so I won't get good value trading a RB for a QB. D is Tampa Bay. After drafting Bush at 3:10 I didn't draft any RB until Barber in the 11th, so my other postitions are not suffering too badly. I'll look for trades, but I'm not desperate to make one (unless Gates gets hurt). When someone gets 8 total points from all of his RBs one week, maybe I'll get a good offer.

Also, keep in mind that since no real games have been played yet, many folks will base trade value on where a player was drafted. So in this league you'd probably have a hard time trading an RB to someone who passed on said RB for a WR. Your best bet will be to wait 2 or 3 weeks and see how things pan out.
