The Vikings' passing game hasn't shown much in recent weeks. Frerotte has been held under 200 yards passing in each of the past three games and he hasn't played all that well at times. On the surface, things look bad. However, a closer look shows that two of those games came against teams nobody's passing well on lately (Green Bay and Tampa Bay) and in the other he still threw 3 TDs, making him a solid fantasy start that week.
But everywhere I look this week, Frerotte is getting buried in the rankings and I'm surprised by that. The Vikings play the Jags this week and Jacksonville's pass defense has major issues. Last week, Kerry Collins went Joe Montana on them, throwing for 230 yards and 3 TDs. In their last six games, they have allowed 11 TD passes. For the season they allow nearly 2 TD passes per game. Only Arizona has allowed more TD passes this season than the Jaguars.
I know it's difficult to look at Gus Frerotte and view him as a big-time fantasy QB. But this is a season which has seen the likes of Kyle Orton, Tyler Thigpen and Shaun Hill emerge as very viable starting options. I think people might be sleeping on Frerotte this week. He isn't a sexy option but if you're looking for someone who could deliver this week either in a large league, a start-2 QB league or if you're just sick of your allegedly big-time QB continuing to fail ::coughBenRoethlisbergercough:: I think Frerotte is someone who could come through nicely this week.
Along those lines, I think Bernard Berrian could do very well this week as well.
