H2H Points Leagues (1 Viewer)

As we all know, there are many types of baseball leagues out there. I only prefer H2H points leagues because of the constant action. 5X5 leagues are just too boring for me (only my opinion).

Most leagues use a baseline for points.

Here is my leagues scoring

Scoring for Batting Categories

1B - Singles 1 point

2B - Doubles 2 points

3B - Triples 3 points

BB - Walks (Batters) 1 point

CS - Caught Stealing -1 point

CYC - Hitting for the Cycle 3 points

HP - Hit by Pitch 1 point

HR - Home Runs 4 points

KO - Strikeouts (Batter) -1 point

R - Runs 1 point

RBI - Runs Batted In 2 points

SB - Stolen Bases 2 points

Scoring for Pitching Categories

BS - Blown Saves -2 points

ER - Earned Runs -1 point

HA - Hits Allowed -.25 points

INN - Innings 1 point

K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point

L - Losses -5 points

NH - No-Hitters 10 points

S - Saves 5 points

SO - Shutouts 10 points

W - Wins 10 points

I think a lot of leagues will be similar with a few other things added in or taken out.

Lets talk strategy for H2H points leagues

I think anytime you play in a points league, you have to grab guys that can hit homers because they are the ones that can yield between 7 and 13 points with one swing of the bat.

In my league that I just drafted in I took Pujold first and then went with C Lee and V Wells in the 2nd and 3rd. I didnt take my first picther til the 6th round and that hurt a bit but you need power in the start.

Picthing can be tough to gauge because there is more then just the picther involved so I sluffed picthing for batting.

Only thing Im beating myself up about is taking Cano in the 5th over Webb. That could come back to ruin my season

Load up on talented pitchers because the ability to get two starts out of your pitchers is clutch.

One of the best strategies out thereHowever, be careful to do it mostly with quality picthers because having waiver wire guys going twice can lead to  The year I won my championship I drafted pitchers going twice the first week. I had Clemens, Beckett and another real big KO guy that I cant remember and I never looked backLike I said, Be careful of the 2 start waiver wire guy

:goodposting: Im a huge Cano fan but even Im shocked at that
Like I said, it may end up costing me the championship. It was a major oversight on my part. I have to hope that Kazmir doesnt hurt. Here is what I was able to get Kazmir, Sheets, Hammels, Patterson, Burnett, Snell, Robertson, Wolf and Hill.I am def nervous about it. What are you going to do. I think Cano can have a real nice year and that may help in the long run but I am :banned:

If you are strong enough in the lineup, and have some closers to mix in, I think the strategy works fine. You will get burnt with waiver starting pitchers, but if you keep a couple of starters on the team, you should have some dependable starters to mix in as well.

I'm in a similar setup with no negatives.

Hitters:

1- TB, RBI, R, BB, HBP, IBB

2- SB

Pitchers:

1- IP [each full IP – P’s receive .334 pts for each out recorded], K

5- CG, Save

8- Win, SHO

14th pick out of 14 teams. Keep 8 ML's and 2 Minor Leaguers each season.

First four picks were Ortiz, Berkman, Tejada and Felix Hernandez.

Followed that up with Smoltz, Rios, Francoeur and F. Garcia.

I think you have to go all out for hitting (and HRs) in these leagues, for the most part. Everyone has double starts, so drafting for that doesn't matter since there are so many quality #3 and #4 pitchers. Still filled the rotation with Snell 11th, C. James 16th, Sowers 19th, and Glavine in the 20's somewhere. Besides Felix and Smoltz, my other three starters will be double starts or best matchup.

I'll also mention, the first year I did this league, about 5yrs ago, before it was a keeper (which just started this year), I drafted sick starters early on (I had Unit, Pedro, and a few other stud pitchers, I think Schmidt). I did great H2H, but in the end lost in the playoffs and did not win the points title. Some of this had to do with my lackluster hitting, but it shows a stud pitching group can carry you.......you just need more things to fall into place IMO.

The points title actually came down to Mark Bellhorn's 3-r HR and grand slam on the final day of the season (it was a late afternoon game to boot). I was  .
